Copy Files Into Folders Without Providing Full Name Of The File?
Mar 13, 2012
Can i copy files into folders without providing full name of the file? Different files will be distributed into different folder, my files have current date at the end, it also has split before the date. I would like to copy the files name before the split. Here is an example
Have built a project and associated it with a Setup&Deployment Project. The S&D project needs to contain 2 main folders (under User's Desktop) with various formats of files (xmls, txts, dlls) inside them and several subfolders. How can i copy/import these 2 folders and there sub-files/folders into my s&d project?
When adding them in the usual way, they are copied and defined a source path onto the current pc. You can understand what errors this might create when an another targeted pc does not contain those files to the exact location. Is there any way to copy them locally or somehow import them?
I have been trying to get a .jpg files from subfolders that get's updated and a new subfolders is created. I have been trying to figure how to code to read the folders/subfolders and to get the .jpeg files copy or move to different folder.
I was assigned a project to create a program of cloning two file servers. It will copy all folders (about 500, one day one folder, there are about 200 files in each day) from one file server (S1) to another file server (S2). If any error occurred while in processing, program will send an email to someone.
This one has been troubling me for some time , i keep coming back to it researching it for a couple of days on and off then get disheartened and give up for a while.Basically i want to copy one file in to multiple folders that have the same structure except for one distinction
Public Class Form1 Private Delegate Function CopyProgressRoutine(ByVal totalFileSize As Int64, ByVal totalBytesTransferred As Int64, ByVal streamSize As Int64, ByVal streamBytesTransferred As
How can I search the local disk for a file type and copy the full path to a new location. I am trying to write a backup program that will copy all pst files to the server while maitaining the structure, so if there is a pst located in "C:pstuserpersonal1.pst" it would create the folder "\serverpstuserpersonal1.pst" and copy the file to the correct location. I would need it to do this for each pst on the hard drive no matter the location. The user running the program will not have admin rights, so it will need to skip files it cannot access.
I need help with file enumeration. I'm trying to create a program that can list files, folders and sub folders locations in a log file for diagnostic purposes. After it searches it can open notepad and display the results. The problem I'm having is that I'm a beginner and not familiar with file enumeration.
I am working on a vb forms application in VS2008.What I am looking to do is have 3 file managers on the form. The top is the source where files can be copied to the 2 other file managers. What I have been looking for is an example of the file explorer so I can modify it.So far I have been unsuccessful in finding a good example so I am here to ask the experts. So the gist is the first file explorer will allow a user to connect to thier local hard drive. The other two file explorers would allow the user to connect to two different servers through entering the path they want to view those file trees. After that the user could click on the file they want to copy and then hit a button for example and the file would be copied from the local to the two other areas.Would it be easier to just use text boxes with a confirmation that the files are being copied?Or can a full file manager be built to drag and drop files?
I found this code on here to open a text fille, do a find & replace then save the changes, and the code is in a loop that will do that to every file in a given folder. My question is I also have files in sub folders, and more sub folders, and i'm not sure how deep it goes. I want to recursivly go though all the sub folders and do this to all the files, not just the files directly in the main folder.
Here is the code so far:
Code: FolderBrowserDialog1.Description = "Select Path for files to edit" FolderBrowserDialog1.ShowDialog OpenPathVariable = FolderBrowserDialog1.SelectedPath
I'm having different results when running openfiles.exe manually than when I run it with Process.start() Below is the portion of code making the call. I have read in several places that using the "runas" verb might make a difference since I am running on Win 7 x64, however I am still experiencing different results.

I've got an app which uses a background worker to copy files. It works fine but some files are quite large and it "appears" as though the app isn't doing anything. Is there an alternative to the File.Copy method of copying files so I can report on the progress of individual file copies, like the percentage complete?
I'm currently working on an application that allows users to select picture files and then categorize them into folders. Now I'm having two issues that are probably simple to fix but I only have a year of experience with vb so I just don't know how to fix them. The first and biggest issue is that once the user has selected and categorized a file, I want the program to select the next file in the folder that the first file was moved from. This way the number of clicks required is minimized. However I have no clue what I would need to do in order to accomplish this. Also, my other problem is that I want to be able to find the indexof a quotation mark but whenever I put it in the parameter it just reads it as a quote.
I've almost finished my database application, and I had an idea to insert a button that creates a copy of the database. However, when I click the button, it destroys all of the data in the file before copying. It's a 2000 .mdb Access file with 500+ rows so far.
Here's the code that handles the backup: Private Sub btnBackup_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles btnBackup.Click

The code looks like this: Private Sub Button8_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button8.Click Const FOLDER_FROM As String = "C:Testcopy1" ' Folder to copy from Const FOLDER_TO As String = "C:Mappestruktur" 'Folder to create above folder in Dim newDir As DirectoryInfo = Directory.CreateDirectory(FOLDER_TO & "" & New DirectoryInfo(FOLDER_FROM).Name) [Code] .....

I'm using "My.Computer.FileSystem.CopyDirectory(...)" to copy large directories (30-50gb) from one mapped share folder to another. Using "FileInfo.length" to add up all file and subfolder sizes, determines the 'origin directory' size just fine. However, if I use the same method for determining the size of the 'destination directory', mid copy, it returns the full file size, despite the copy not yet being complete.I'm at a loss as to why, as this method works fine in testing, going from a local PC t

I have a little vb.net script that will copy a file, set its attributes to Normal, update the file time, and then set back the attributes to match those of the source file.
If IO.File.Exists(Destination) Then IO.File.SetAttributes(Destination, IO.FileAttributes.Normal) IO.File.Copy(Source, Destination, True) IO.File.SetAttributes(Destination, IO.FileAttributes.Normal)
[code]....
I however I'm encountering a quite strange problem. On some configurations, IO.File.SetLastWriteTimeUtc triggers an UnauthorizedAccess error, although the IO.File.Copy instruction worked very well.
I created a Right-Click Menu option for files. When the user clicks the menu option it will copy all of the file paths to the clipboard. The following function I have will retrieve all of the filepaths to the clipboard. The problem lies in adding the filepaths to the listbox. If I turn single instance application off the result is multiple instance of the application for each filepath. Say for example I selected 2 files and clicked my right-click menu, I wind up with 2 instance of my exe with each file path added to the listbox, 1 in one listbox, the other file path in the second instance listbox.
Public Sub getthepath() Try Dim thefilepath As String
[code]....
Is there a way to loop through each file path from the clipboard and add them to the listbox through a loop?Several times I have tried different ideas I had that I thought would do it and I got odd results but never a good result.
