I have created a Windows Application in Visual Studio 2005(VB .Net) and used Sql Server 2000 as Backend,Now I want to know how to create a Setup of my Project so that I can install it on clients machine.I have tried by Adding a setup and Deploy project in My application but my setup file include SQL Database files(.mdf,.ldf) and my client has Win Xp installed so my Setup file is asking for sql server connection, but on clients machine Sql server 2000 can't be installed as its compatibility.
I am creating a VB windows form applications , the working can be summarized as users fills some form and data is saved in sql server database. Now the problem i am facing is that i have to deliver this as a setup file to someone, and that person will further distribute it to different users to run on their PC, what i am thinking is that the code once installed on other computers and executed will give errors because of the connection string of sql server db as it will not match with that computer . I know that if a distribute projects i can put connection string in app.config and every user can change it according to his/her machine .But as i am giving a setup file how to solve this problem
I created a new Setup project to my original project. In my project's code there is this line: Public DBPath As String = My.Computer.FileSystem.SpecialDirectories.MyDocuments & "Visual Studio 2008ProjectsFUV1FUV1FU.mdb" I just wanted to know, if I am instaling the project in other computer that has no VS in it, with the SETUP project, do I need to change this line? something to do with the Application Folder of the Setup project?
Now that I've got this service that runs really great on my 32-bit development machine when I use InstallUtil.exe to install it, I'm ready to take it to the next level and generate something that I can use to install it on my 64-bit production server. I've never done this before, so I'm looking for detailed, step-by-step instructions on how to "publish" this Windows Service that I've written, or make it such that I can take some kind of file (or set of files) and install my service on another machine. I'm looking for a way to do this using Visual Studio 2010. I think the processes are different than in previous versions of Visual Studio.
I'm trying to do a setup project with VS2008 for my VB .NET application. I would need to create a text file into the installation directory based on the answers the user who installs the program gives. Idea is that I need to have the installation path variable in a text file so that I can read it. And also some other directory specifications too.
I could do the following: Write the wanted information to the window registry and after the installation is ready, create another application that is run at the end of the installation to create these files.
I know how to create shortcuts on desktop and program files but i want to make an option with checkboxes...so that you can select if you want those two shortcuts or if you don't them.I've tried this with checkboxes (in User Interface), i've set checkboxes properties and changed "User's desktop" and "User's Start Menu" conditions (in File System). "CHECKBOXA1" for desktop shortcut, "CHECKBOXA2" for start menu shortcut...but it doesn't work... both icons are visible every time.
I am creating a desktop application in vb.net by using visual studio 2008 and using ms sql 2008 as back end for my database. As I am creating application on my own system I know my connection string and I have created database manually on my system.
What I want is, when user install application on its system, the database created dynamically at that time on his system and he must enter server name, username and password for ms sql server that application should store for future use.If not at installation, it should atleast check and create database, everytime the user open the application.
im making a setup project with my windows application. i have pack it but the problem is my database. how do i set there new targets once i added the mdb file. i know thats the problem but i really dont know how to reconfigure
another thing, when its already pack and when i try to run the msi, the interface has an error on the picture above. and whats the bootstraper for? why is it that clicking the bootstraper is an error.
also if my target machine doesnt have vb.net and ms access, would my project be still running in there? this is my first time in making setup projects.. im using vb.net 2k3.
I want to create personal folders during installation. I did the following steps:
Right click on your setup project -> View -> File System Right click on node "File system on
[Code]....
I know the above steps are correct and should work because i did it in the other application (solution) and worked fine. When i did same exact steps (of course i changed the folder name to be created), the application gets deployed but when i install, i don't get the Personal Folder under Documents? I wonder why did it work with my first solution and didn't work with the current one!
I make a program-application in visual basic and it work OK. When I pack my application in setup project and make the installation, the database(in program) it did not save a new data or any update. Where is a mistake ?
I have an installer for my application that makes changes to the registry for better application performance However, depending on the language of the operating system installed this input need changes For example (which is the case itself) Systems in Portuguese the entry is called (Padrao)Systems in English the entry is called (Default) I know I have I change the property "Condition" of the entry I created but I do not know what I have to write in this "Condition" I write within this property to validate that The system is in English or The system is in Portuguese I plan to put the project set two registry entries, one that will be done on systems with English language and other entry in systems with Portuguese language?
I am creating a visual basic project for class. It is all running as intended though I am not sure how to set up the login to database function. When you click the link for the specific report it should display the page. But I get a login to database page. I am just wondering how I set that up so that one can actually see the information. ie:
I have produced an application which works with datasets but I now wish to provide the user the ability to add and admend records within the database. But i wish to do this in a seperate form.My current dataset instanciates classes onLoad.Should i try passing the Dataset to the new form class? although I have the problem where by when i pass the dataset to the form class using code below i get this problem:[code]Should i just create a create a new connection to the database and produce a new dataset for this form? or is there a better way to do this?
I want to create a real setup project for my application so when someone want to download it he can run only setup, not default setup that provide me VB . How can I do that?
i have studied very recently that an exe file could be created using "Setup and deployment" project, then by adding the required file to it,thus we can create a 'setup.msi' and 'setup.exe' But i want to know whether, we can create the same exe file , COMPLETELY THROUGH CODING....for example, when i click a button , then an exe file should be created...
I wrote a small application in witch I create a connection to a database. I'm new to this, so I followed the steps in MSDN help. I first created a link to the database with the "Datasource" of the Visual Studio environement. Then, in the code, I create instances of the dataset in the datasource and use a tableAdapter to register my changes in the database.
Now I want to allow the user of the application to specify the path of the DB file he wants to use. How can I do so? Do I still can use the datasource in the VS environment? I don't know where to start.
im sure that there are plenty of people here that have the same problem as me, but i cant seem to find a forum that explains this to me. well basically i have a program i am creating to use as a phone list, but to save data to a database on a mapped hard drive. I want to give the user the option to set the path of the database just by typing it into a textbox. The database will be supplied with the program, with all appropriate tables, i just really would like to know how to set up a connection to a database using code, and to be able to display it into a datagrid veiw. I know this seems simple to you guys, and i am really sorry, i am just new at this.
and also if u could, could u describe to me how to make it search through the database for like certain names/numbers?
Okay i have been looking around for some tutorials on databinding by code but all the ones i find use vb's built in function to create the connection to the database and then the binding but i need to do it manually. I am totally new to databinding as in i only learned about it from a previouse thread and have been fiddling since.
[Code]...
So im kind of going blind here, i dont know whats going wrong or if im even using the correct dim statment for the binding,
I installed SQLExpress 2008 on my computer this afternoon and have been trying to create a new database and open a connection to it. I found this code online and tried it:
Dim conStr As String = "Server=MSSMLBIZ;Database=;Trusted_Connection = yes"
I've finally got a project compiled and tested and ready to roll out.I have discovered that the "Publish" option is not what it seems, and that we must create a separate "Setup Project" to carry out the task of installing the files. This is not the most intuitive process I've seen, and the online help on that subject is not easy to understand.I was hoping that someone could direct me to a tutorial or guide that would step me through the specific approach I need. Many of the other guides online are vague and address multiple scenarios and do not separate the approaches very well.I have the contents of my project in /bin/release. It runs nicely by iteself with no errors. Here's what I need:
1. To create a setup exe that I can distribute that will install my software, with all of the supporting (resource) files and folders. 2. I need the setup process to force the installer to "agree" to a EULA. 3. I'd would like to provide an image on the installation screen/popup. 4. I would like the software registered in the registry and rely on it being there in the registry. 5. I need it to default to program filesprojectname (it does by default)
