Create A Sub With Variables That All The Other Subs Can See And Use?

I have a page where the page loads with the code as shown below. Pretty much every other sub on the page uses the variables gFilename, gPicType and gPicPath. In every other routine I have to go through the process of recreating gPicPath (as per the if/then block in the code). How do I create these variables ONCE, and then store them so that all the other subs can access them?

I'm having an issue where I need to pass the value in a variable from one sub to anotherHere is the scenario. I have two forms; Main_Form and frmClient. I take a value from frmClient and pass it into a sub called Form_Activate located in Main_Form. I then need to take the value from Form_Activate and use it in a sub called when the user selects a menu item in the toolstrip.Starting point is frmClient and the code there is this:

What is the difference between.Dim x as string and Private x as string / Public x as string, and when would I use one over the other?

Using Visual Studio 2008 I am trying to create two subs using the same handles:
Private Sub checkwin(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button1.Click, Button2.Click, Button3.Click, Button4.Click, Button5.Click, Button6.Click, Button7.Click, Button8.Click, Button9.Click

As these both use the same handles one sub overwrites the other...... Both subs contain If statements. Do I need to create two different handles... and how do I do this so that the handles use the same buttons?

We have these xml formatted .config files that come with all our ASP.NET programs. Well they have keys that need to be populated and I am unable to understand how to create a variable in xml and use it. The articles on variables in xml all seem to be talking about some other type of variable than I am familiar with. I am used to working in C or other programming languages.

I am looking to create a function in which I can pass in an integer (count) and create an amount of picturebox's based on the count.For example if I pass in an integer count, it should do this, only I don't know the correct syntax for it.[code]I am making a huge list of pictureboxes that will scroll on a form, 5 showing at a time.Also, if there are a huge amount of pictureboxes, will I be better off keeping like 7 pictureboxes on the form and keep rotating images throughout? Images are coming from a folderlist in a listbox (so I can easily pull the path of the image from an index).

I need to create a label for every cell in excel that has a value depending on search criteria.Depending on what number is searched i need to display all cells in the row in different labels. I want to monitor more than 10 folders on different machines by using SysTemFileWatcher. I create a class called Watcher for doing monitoring. So, for each folder I have to call that class once with a new thread. I want to name each thread with its own name like: T1, T2, T3 ... for easier controlling them. It is not nice if I declare each thread like:
Dim T1 as Thread =new Thread(Address of Watcher.StartWatcher)
Dim T2 as Thread =new Thread(Address of Watcher.StartWatcher)
...
Dim T18 as Thread =new Thread(Address of Watcher.StartWatcher)
How can I declare thread names dynamically with the names just like that. I have tried to use Thread array() but it doesn't work.

Forgive me if this has already been covered in a previous post. I am considering using VB.net for a project but need to know before I dive in if it can perform this particular functionality. The application I wish to develop would need to be able to create html and email templates using variable tokens - what I mean is that users would need to be able to insert into their html or email template previously assigned variables that would send dynamically generated text from the database - so, for example, they could write in their template {title}, or {firstname} {lastname} which would then be replaced by the data from the db.

If I have a list box or something that has a list of like 4 years (like 2006 through 2009), how do I programmatically make variables of these years with names like pTable2006, pTable2007, etc (as ITable of course). If this isn't possible and I have publicly declared these tables in the declarations (like pTable2006 as ITable, pTable2007 as ITable, etc), how can I programmatically assign these variables based on user choice?
What I'm asking is, if the user wants to choose years 2006 and 2007, how can I write this:
pTable & ListBox.Items.Item(0) = [table path string] & ListBox.Items.Item(0)
(please ignore the syntax of the "listbox", I'm just trying to come up with an example)
Whenever I put something like pTable & "string", I get an error.

I put "isolated context" in quotes because I don't know what else you would call it. Basically, in C#, you can do this:
{ int i = 0; }
{ int i = 1; }
The curly braces create an isolated context which allows you to declare two variables with the same name in the same method or property logic. Is this possible in VB.NET? Also, what do you call this aside from an isolated context?

I recieved a gift recently visual studio 2010 ultimate a nice suprise I have been repairing and building PC's and networks for years working in local shops and buisnesses, but always wanted to learn programming so my GF purchased this for me nice suprise. So here is my beginner question. I am making a program that will take check info ( check number, amount, date and person or buisness wrote to). I have no plans on using it just trying to learn variable structures and arrays and thought this type of program was a good start. Now I would like to take the text of a text box in runtime and use that to input a new check number into the variable structure. Just so I am not confusing anyone I will write the basic code

So what I would like to do is use a textox labeled check number to add check numbers into the checkrecord structure instead of having to add them into the code manually is this possible?

I have text file that is saved as comma delimited. There are 3 columns with x number of rows. I cannot seem to figure out how to create an array that will store all three columns with the variable intProductArray as the length of the array. I have been opening the file with only one column and putting it into a textbox and using the lines of the textbox as the variable for length. I cannot figure out the array for all 3 columns.

I want to be able to pass back a variable that will hold the name of the constant as well as the value. I'm trying to write a simple game ui, it is grid/tile based, and i have the grid built using grid column and row definitions and I'm successfully placing objects in various grid locations. I am currently stuck as trying to build the player object. I want a single object reference to represent the various components of the players piece.
Currently I am using a polygon to represent the piece on the grid. Eventually I want to replace this with images or something. I want to add in properties for what weapon and armor it has equipped I want properties for health
Essentially in code i want something like this

player1.health = 100

I can instantiate all this as separate variables etc, but I'd like to have a singular reference that contains all the variables, properties, objects, controls etc.

Last year (2010) I came across a FANTASTIC command that allowed me to take a string of variables with a common delimiter and break it all back out into separate variables (possibly an array) with one statement.

As long as the delimiter was a unique specifiable character, this one-statement command could break it out into elements. my memory and point me in the right direction.

I have code, shown below, that works all except for 1 thing: The variables being passed byRef get passed, but once modified in the else section of the "if me.invokerequired" code of RecordData, the variables are never updated in the calling function. To reiterate, the calling function does not receive the updated data that is in the variables custid and amt.When debugging, I see the data change in the else section of "if me.invokerequired", but once it returns from the callback the data is missing.[code]

I define some global variables of a class as follows:
Private Class MyClass
Private var1 as Decimal
Private list1 as List(Of string)[code].....
But I found that after this form is closed, all above variables, var1, list1, list2 still exist in memory. I thought they should be collected by gc since the form is already disposed as I confirmed.
Add: I have monitored half an hour after the form is closed. But these variables are not collected by gc. I have an automatic update procedure on the form which uses above variables.Since the above variables still hold values, the automatic update procedure is always called which causes exception. (One quick fix is to check if form.isDisposed in update procedure. But I do not think this is elegeant. Besides, these variables occupy memory.)

Can I code to add transaction for some subs? If there is an error in any sub will roll back.For example,
sub1 delete some tables
sub2 insert data into tables which just be deleted
sub3 send out confirmation email
sub4 make submit button disable
I knew that transaction will work for sub1 and sub2 but I do not know if transaction will work for all of subs

Just wanted to start out by saying that I am completely new at this whole programming thing. I am pretty sure the answer is very simple and staring me right in the face but I can't figure it out.Basically, what I want to do is check to see if a directory exists and if it does not, then create it. Then I want to populate a list box with a list I have stored in a text file.
The problem I run into is that while my program runs, as far as I can tell my Subs do not. I just want them to run on their own when the program starts but they don't.
