Packaging And Deploying Application
Jan 24, 2010I have prepared an application which uses SQL Server 2005 Express Edition as its database and Reports using Crystal Reports which comes integrated with VB .net 2008.I am able to package and deploy my application alone. To the system where I am going to install doesnot have SQL Server or Crystal report runtime files.I want to include the same in my package so that it gets installed and followed by my application.I have chosen install application from the same location and tried to package it. It doesn't work.Please suggest me steps so that I can have the required softwares packaged with my application so that the user when he installs, it installs at one go.

Aug 27, 2010I'm new to VB.Net, i have a situation like,you have folder name "Arrange", inside this, it contains so many "txt" and "zip" files, you can rearrange it by right clicking and select "Arrange By , Last modified", i have to access this option through code and have to do this every time while i'm looping or entry of the function.
I can do this in program through forEach loop and get details like filename and creationDate, but i want to arrange it in "Arrange" Folder.

Sep 3, 2010I am trying to compress and uncompress files. I have read that System.IO.Packaging might suit my needs, but I can not find it. I am using VS 2008 professional. Imports System.IO.Packaging at the top of class does not work (it throws an error). I did find system.io.compression. Does this replace packaging? If it does, does it handle .7z and .rar files?

In the code below I've set it to the maximum compression rate, yet winrar is able to create a zip (at maximum compression) that is 2/3 of the size when I make it. Am i doing something wrong?

VS 2005 Zip/Unzip With Packaging Namespace?
Sep 8, 2009I'm using the System.IO.Packaging namespace in my VS2005 application. The zip compression works fine for 1 or many files. The unzip though for some reason seems to only unzip one file. Initially I did this in vs2008 at home and it worked fine, but now at work with vs2005 it's only unzipping one of the files. Can you see anything that I might be doing wrong?

VS 2010 Packaging A Dotfuscator Assembly?
Mar 17, 2011I have developed an app and an installer for it and everything works fine. I now feel I should add a bit of obfuscation to the code before it gets released into the wild. VS2010 comes with the CE edition of dotfuscator so I've run it and it produced an .exe in a 'Dotfuscated' folder. Do I just replace all four 'Primary output from. custom actions with the assembly from the Dotfuscator folder or am I missing something?

Apr 20, 2011I was able to create an application in VB.net that talks to a SQL Server CE database.Now i want to deploy this application using the publish feature with clickonce.An issue im having tho is when I install the application on another computer it keeps looking for my sql server on my development pc.
Ive added the .sdf when i package my solution but its still an issue.How do I change my connection string to connect to the .sdf file that I included in the package? this is my current connection string which looks at the sql server: connectionString = " Data Source=CHRIS-PCSQLEXPRESS;Initial Catalog=ce_db;Integrated Security=True"

Jul 21, 2011I'm developing a very simple program in VB2010 Express that will create folders based on entries in a remote database. I am fully aware that the minimum requirement to run the exe is the latest .net framework, however I have a few added resources to the file, and when I try to run the executable on another computer, it fails to run stating that the resources are missing.
How do i compile my VB code AND the resources together into a stand-alone executable that only requires the .net framework to be installed?I have already tried to google this issue, however every answer I find has nothing to do with my initial question..

So i tried using a txt file with just a few characters, and I got the same error. Jun 24, 2010I have writen a program using vb.net 2005 and used SQL Server 2000 as the database. I also used DataSet to process the records. When I try to run the program on a peer-to-peer network it fails and returns the error message

Deploying .net With Access?
Feb 10, 2012i would like some advice on how I would go about deploying my application I coded with vb.net and access.The problem I have been facing is that I cannot install it on another machine . It gives me an error saying that It cannot find the database in C:\Users\Weighbridge2\AppData\Local\Apps\2.0\Data\. database.accdb when you install access runtime and access runtime sp1 and copy the database to that location then it works.Is there a more efficient way of going about this. I suspect it has something to do with the refferences and prerequisites but up to now i've tried almost all we know .

Deploying .NET Windows App That Contains Access DB?
Jul 21, 2011I built this vb.net windows application that uses an Access DB for data storage and it works fine in visual studio. The problem is, when I deploy, install it from an MSI, i get this error: (see below)If I right click on it and run this program as administrator, it works fine. I thought it was a permissions problem so I gave user, administrator and system full rights to all the files in the directory. But I still get the error.Isn't giving all the files in the program directory full rights the same as making it run as admin?
