Display String Randomly From Array
Jun 2, 2011I have a form with one richtextbox and one button. The idea is that:
Form Load: data read from text file into arrayButton Click: random number generated, then used to select the string whose index number matches the random number generated
My StreamReader is working correctly and I can create random numbers with no problem, but I'm stuck on how I can use this random number to extract the corresponding string. I keep get the error saying QuoteObject reference not set to an instance of an object.

Game Programming :: Have An String Array Called ArrMap (0 To 19) That Holds The 20 Rows Of Each Map For Display?
Sep 30, 2009Im working on a roguelike console RPG. For those of you that dont know, just google search it.What I need help with is that I have an string array called ArrMap(0 to 19) that holds the 20 rows of each map for display. I also have an array of the same size called VisibleMap that needs to hold which portions of the map are visible and which arent so that when the player switches screens [IE goes from map, to inventory] they can go back to the map and it will look the same. I was thinking of using an array, but if you can think of another way to do it, that's fine.Here are the subs that deal with the map reading and display, so you know how I have things set up at the moment.

I have an Array of String that contains all of the OPC Items that I wish to read from the OPC Server. When I attempt to use the Array of String, Option Strict causes the following compile error message:Error 5 Option Strict On disallows narrowing from type 'System.Array' to type '1-dimensional array of String' in copying the value of 'ByRef' parameter 'ItemIDs' back to the matching argument. May 27, 2009I've been working with a sig capture application sample on a windows mobile device, The data is sent via IP to a host as a byte array and is then drawn onto the screen of the host as it appeared on the client. I was able to get this into the form of a bitmap object so I could print it or save to a jpg file. That all works well. The problem now is that I need to store this data in a database and then be able to recall it at a later time and recreate the signature image.
The byte array data is much smaller than the actual image so I would like to store it in that form. My issue is that when I convert this byte array into a string and back again my program can no longer re-create the image. Once I saw the problem I created the code below as a test and added the msgboxes to get an idea what was happened to my data.

I used an array for the cards (can't think of a better way to assign a picturebox to a card picture other then a huge select case block). Then, I want to take the first item in the array(the first letter of the string)and capitalize it. Once I've done all that, I want to combine the array and convert it back to the original string it was, except I want the first letter to be capitalized(I've already placed this into a variable.)

Mar 2, 2009i have a string array that i want to output to a text file. the array size is 10000. i fill the array starting from 0 with some strings. at the end, i only want to show the array from index 256 to the last array that is not empty (for eg. if the array is filled with data from 0 to 2000, i only want the text file to show the data from 256 to 2000 and ignore the remaining strings).
