I am very new to programming, I have developed my first application - an xps viewer. What I want to achieve is to be able to allow the user to select which document to open from a range of options that I have predefined in a combo box. I've searched all over the net and can't find an article that shows me how to do this. MSDN is bit too cryptic for me at this moment, so I get confused. When the user clicks on bold and italic it should be bold and italic. when they are not clicked it should not be. I am having trouble finding a stable solution. I can only seem to change it to either bold or not bold or italic or not italic and not bold and italic.

I am createing a console application and I was wondering if there was a way to display text like a computer was typing it itself. In further detail, if i wrote the line,Console.writeline("pie")console.read, and then i started the app, it would type each letter a quarter second or so apart, not just display the text. So it would first display p, then a couple miliseconds later it displayer i, and then e.

I'd like you filter some results in a grid, and i want the user to be able to type a value into a textbox, and then the grid will be filtered by that value. I don't need help with the grid or how to populate it. My question is in regards to the textbox; How can i tell when the user has stopped typing so i can automatically load the grid? I thought about doing a refresh automatically in the TextChanged event, but that seems silly since the user could still be typing more characters.

(Before hitting tab, Or moving the mouse) I have a database query that occurs on the textchanged event and everything works perfectly. However, I noticed that there is a bit of lag of course because if a user is quickly typing into the textbox the program is busy doing a query for each character. So what I was hoping for was a way to see if the user has finished typing. So if they type "a" and stop then an event fires. However, if they type "all the way" the event fires after the y keyup. Like measuring the time since the last textchange event and if it was > than a certain value then it would proceed to run the rest of my procedures.

View 2 RepliesI want to access a page variable from a user control placed on that page. All the solutions work in C# via casting to the page class. The problem is that this doesn't work in VB. The page class is not selectable from the Intellisense dialog. Manual typing results in the error type not defined. It is strange that C# can do this without a problem. What is the proper solution for this in VB? I had other cases where I needed to access a control on the main page. C# again uses a cast to the page class to access the control. This doesn't work in VB again. So how can I access the page class from a user control in generell?

Is there a way to find out if the "TextChanged" event is fired because the user is typing into a textbox or the programmer called myTextBox.Text = "something"? I don't want to react when the user is typing each letter into the textbox so I am using the "Validated" event to catch when the user is done so I can react. The problem is I don't have a way to catch when the programmer does "myTextbox.Text = "something". The only way I know to catch changes there is to use TextChanged but then I don't want to be reacting when the user is typing each letter into the textbox.

I am using Windows XP, Word 2007. Does someone know of a quick method to add a page in the middle of a document via a userform button? This new page will have formatting and verbage in it that will supplement the existing document. But, the new page will only be necessary when the command button is pressed.
