Drop Down Box Of Username, Server, Connection Port?

Mar 9, 2009

I have a logon screen that contains several textboxes where user can fill in their logon info (username, pass, server, database, connection port, etc.). I'd like to have the application memorize what they've put in after the first time successfully logon in form of a dropdown box. Let's say the 2nd time when users trying to logon, there is a drop down box of username, server, connection port, etc. available as a dropdown list item. They can select the info and simply enter the password.Is there a way to do that? If so, do you have an example or a reference source I can learn from?

Connection To LDAP Fails Unknown Username Or Bad Password?

Mar 23, 2011

I would really welcome some help with this issue. We have a php code that works and connects to the LDAP. When I try to connect using VB.NET 2010, it fails to bind with logon failure unknown username or bad password. Below is the connection information. When I talk to the folks who run the ldap server, they say I am binding sucessfully, below is the log file for the sucessful bind? If I continue and try to execute a search I don't get any results. The server is running openLDAP ver 2.3.39 on a linux server, server requires connection on port 636 for secure connection, or 389 for anonymous.

File Modifiers Username Across Network Connection Impossible?

Apr 18, 2005

I'm running into this problem when it comes to determining a network logged on username and i hope someone can help me out or atleast point me in the right direction.Situation:1 Windows 2003 server that is serving files through Active directory. No Dfs installed, just plain files sharing.1 or multiple clients that access the files, make modifications and creates or deletes files. For arguments sake let's say that the clients are Windows XP computer and the users are logged on to the local domain (AD).Currently available:When the client alters, creates or deletes a file i have a (VB.Net Windows Service) script that tells me that this is being done and stores a record in a database for this action being performed.Desire:I wan't to know the client's ip-address, computername or logged on username so that i can store this to. I have tried about 20 different scripts but all check the username on the server side and not the client. So now i either get back "SYSTEM" or "NTAUTHORITYSYSTEM" instead of the user's AD name.Below is the code i use to monitor the directory and or file changes.The "writeDBLog" is where i want to pass the username to write to the database.

Storing 2005 Connection String, Username And Password Outside The Application?

Aug 13, 2009

Does anyone know how to store the connection string in a file rather than hard coding it in the application. For example i have declared this connection string in the form to connect to oracle database and it works. But i assume this is not the right way to go by if one is looking for more secured environment.

strcon = "Provider=MSDASQL;" & _
"Driver={Microsoft ODBC for Oracle}; " & _

Sql Connection Error - Re-establish Connection To The Server

May 14, 2010

This will happen at random, and I can always just catch the error and re-establish connection to the server, but I am confused as to why. When doing lots of inserting into the sql server, I only establish one connection that is public, instead of many little connections. I had my doubts on a public sql connection, but it's been running great, and I've seen no problems until this morning. Again, this random moment I hit an error that stated, sql connection state is broken. Is it bad practice to just accept this error, and when it happens, re-establish the connection?

VS 2008 - Make The Server Check It With The Local VBulletin MySQL Database For The Username And Password?

Nov 14, 2009

I have a chat server / client system running, but I want users to authenticate with my vBulletin forum database.I don't want the client to do it, because it is possible to fake the 'successful login' and connect with a fake username. I want to send the username and password details to the server, and make the server check it with the local vBulletin MySQL database for the username and password.Is there a way to do this? To my knowledge vBulletin has a username and a password entries in the database which is salted, and the salt varies from user to user.

Import Excel Data Into SQL Server - ERROR: "ODBC --Connection To {SQL Server} Servernamesqlservername Failed"

Aug 13, 2010

I am trying to do something fairly simple.. allow my user to import thier data from Excel into SQL Server, where it can be used by the application.To do this, I'm using the fairly simple code that is common everywhere I look:

strFilePath = "Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0;Data Source=" + fdlgFileOpen.FileName + ";Extended Properties=Excel 8.0"
connExcel = New OleDbConnection(strFilePath)
connExcel.Open()

[Code]...

Now, on my development computer this code works perfectly. The data imports, and I can go on my merry way.

On the TEST computer, this code throws the error: "ODBC -- Connection to {SQL Server} servernamesqlservername failed." This seems very odd to me, because I'm using exactly the same SQL Server and database to interact with the application, and all the other screens in the application work perfectly. The test computer CAN connect to this SQL Server, but it keeps throwing this error whenever I try import data from Excel.I've tried everything I can think of - using the server's IP address instead of the server name, sending the SQL Server administrator data along with the request, taking out the Trusted_Connection=Yes... nothing works. What is going on here? How can this code work fine on my computer, and hiccup on another?

Monitor Port 80 Server Status

Oct 28, 2011

I've been working on a program that monitors ours and our clients server's to make sure they are still on. the ones that are ping able were easy, now I'm trying to monitor servers that are not ping able. what I'm thinking of doing is creating a small client program to put on each one of the none ping able server that sends a packet to our server every 30 seconds over port 80 (not have to worry about firewalls) and once the server program doesn't receive a packet for 2 minutes then it will display/sound a warning. my questions is is this possible, or is there a better way of doing this. right now i just am checking to make sure the server/internet connection is on, later i will look into getting info from event looks, SNMP, etc.

ASP.NET Webpage To Device Connect To Server's USB (COM) Port

May 19, 2009

I am working on a way to send commands to an Arduino board from a web site. The Arduino board is connected to the computer via a USB port (a COM port).

I have managed to connect and control the board using a VB.NET program. I also wrote a VB.NET class that can instantiate a COM connection and send and receive messages.

My next step is to basically create a program that will act as a proxy between my web server (IIS 7 running on Windows Vista) and the Arduino board. When a user gets to my ASP.NET page, the page will then send a command to the proxy to open the COM connection. When the connection is open and ready then I can send commands to the proxy. In turn, the proxy will send these commands to the board and listen for the responses it receives from the board. The proxy will then pass these messages back to the ASP.NET page.

The main issue I see occurring is that if a second user opens the web page and tries to open the COM port, there will be an error. Will this cause the first connection to fail? I guess I can first check if the port is already in use and give the second user a message. Are there any other potential challenges I am missing or not seeing?

Communications :: Socket - Connecting To Port 80 Of Server

Apr 21, 2008

I am new to socket communication. I found a few samples on the web and I managed to make my own host-client communication but i wanted to go a bit further and connect to port 80 of a server and it was just a disaster! First of all I know I can just use the functions that vb has itself but I want to make my own connections ... I have got some reasons I need this one! Do I really have to make them "connect" or just somehow without connecting I get the data? So I'm stack at the point that the connection is made ... it refuses to connect.

VS 2010 Client/Server Program Port 80?

May 24, 2012

I'm trying to make a Client that will automatically run a .DLL that I have created and send information over port 80 to my Server program that will take that data and import it into a database for me. Problem is, I don't know where to start as I have never done this before. I want to do this in VB .NET as this is the programming language that I know. What are methods of doing this? Is there sample code out there for something like this? My google searches are failing me.

A better layout of what I'm trying to do:1. Client Runs .DLL, retrieving information from an Excel file.2. Client takes these properties with the data it contains and sends it to a program outside of the local network through port 80, my boss refuses to let me use any other port.3. Server accepts the data and builds its own properties to be imported into my Access Database.4. Repeat over, and over, and over, and over.

I plan for the server application to be a console application, and the client to be a windows form.
