I have a small problem, classes and threading with classes. The problem I have is a dynamic array variable defined in class. In the code below, when error pauses the code, I can see the data in the correct form but I can't write rigth code that writes the data to richtextbox.

when pgm runs and when it reach ".PrinterName = myReader(0)" line, it crashes. Object reference not set to an instance of an object. using immediate window i can see the myReader(0) value. how can i create dynamic array for user-defined type in vb.net?

I was knowing that For Each loop can only be applied to those classes that implement IEnumerable interface . But recently i accidentally wrote a code that is using For Each on my class's objects collection and my that class is not implementing IEnumerable interface .Below is the sample code that i am testing on :

I've been programming in VB.net for a while off and on, but never really had a need to use custom classes till now.I built a function in a module to populate a class, The class how ever is supposed to refer to one instance.I need to create an array of this class but the amount of instances needed is not always known.Works fine till the class goes to populate the class array.[code]It's probably something simple, I've just starred at it to long. I can access each variable thus lLocation.SysLocationId, etc. Is there an alternate way, so I can access each variable by index, so something like lLocation(0), lLocation(1), etc., which gives me the flexibility to compare to classes of the same type via a for next loop, or against other sources, like a datatable.

I can select any other item from the table without the error. "sender" has the same properties as "receiver" in the SQL table.
I feel quite silly asking this, but I couldn't find a definite answer anywhere. in vb.net, how are the array elements defined (if they are defined) for, for example:

does, at this point in time, myarray(3) for example have a defined value? If so, what is it?
Below you will find a code sample that I have dummied up to try and demonstrate the issue I am having. However, this is just a dummied up piece of code. The actual program has noting to do with STUDENTS or TEACHERS. Basically, the problem I'm having is trying to have a CLASS within another CLASS each of which contain ARRAYS that need to be dynamic in size. The sample has a CLASS called STUDENTS that can have in theory many students, the number of which are unknown to the CLASS. I need to be able to add STUDENTS to the ARRAY programmatically.
The CLASSROOM Class should also be an Array since each TEACHER will have MANY Students. There will be only 1 Teacher for a given classroom but the SCHOOL will have MANY CLASSROOMS. Again, I need to programmatically add Teachers and Students without having predefined Array sizes. The code I have listed below will NOT work but it demonstrates what I am trying to achieve. I want to be able to reference the CLASS by using something like this ...
School(iTeacherIndex).Student(iStudentIndex) = "Rick Smith"
I feel like I should be able to use ARRAYLIST in both classes but haven't been able to get it to work. I've tried DIM'ing as ARRAY and can't get that to work either.If I can get ARRAYLIST to work then I shouldn't need to worry about expanding the array via UBOUND (if it's even possible).The REAL question is "How do I have a CLASS within a CLASS, each of which has ARRAYS that need to be dynamic in nature so they can be expanded as needed? The size of the array cannot be determined ahead of time".
REMEMBER . . . the actual program has nothing to do with Students and Teachers. This was just my way of demonstrating the issue using an analogy that I thought everyone could understand. The actual Class is much more involved.I have purposely hardcoded some values just to make the sample easier to work with. I have a web site project where I need to use the System.Security.Cryptography.Xml.SignedXml class. I added the Dll System.Security as a reference and imported the namespace into my project. It compiles successfully but when I debug the project I get a compilation error:
Compiler Error Message: BC30002: Type 'System.Security.Cryptography.Xml.SignedXml' is not defined.
What gives? Edit: I run Windows XP Pro 64bit OS
BitmapPalette class is not defined in VB (express). What should I do ? Add a reference (which one) ? Declare myself the class in my project but that won't be the common class ?

View 2 RepliesI have been having some trouble today with a User-Control of mine. Is what is happening is when I try to build an application with the control in it, the Form.Designer has an Error saying that Namespace.ControlClass is not defined. I have no idea what the problem might be and hope that one of you do.The weird thing is that the Control Builds just fine and I can drag it from toolbox to the form and THAT works. Also, it works just fine in Design-time. It didn't start erroring until either, I upgraded it to VS2010 or until I changed it a bit today. If necessary, I can post it here.

In this case i'm hardcoding Boolean. Instead I would like to define the property type dynamically. I tried it like below but I get an error on line 2 "Type property Type is not defined". I receive the following error when trying to update records: Must declare Scalar Variable @PaymentTermID Problem is, @PaymentTermID should be defined already in the Update parameters. The 2 functions for onrowdatabound and onrowupdate are tweaked versions of the ones found here for the DropDownList: GridViewRow.DataItem Property. Delete works fine. No new lines are added, just names changed around. I am not exactly used to working with asp objects.

I am trying to write a module that will select cells from multiple, non-contiguous columns within a row that is defined by a variable. The column numbers are known and are unchanging. For example, my worksheet might look like this:
A B C D
Row 1 X X X X
I want to select cells A1, B1, and D1; however, I don't want to use the row number (1 in this case) in my code. Rather, I want the row number to be specified as a variable. The code I am writing is inside a For/Next loop, so I would like to use the iterative variable (i in this case) to define the row number. That way, every iteration of the For loop will select cells from a different row.

I would like to make a "deep copy" of a class object that I have defined. See Visual Basic 2005 Code below

Unfortunately the statement "mystuff2 = mystuff1" makes a "shallow copy" of mystuff1. Therefore, if mystuff1 is redefined then so is mystuff2. What do I have to do in MyClass to implement a deep copy method such that operations on mystuff1 and mystuff2 are independent?I would prefer something like
mystuff1.deepcopy(mystuff2)
or
mystuff2 = mystuff1.deepcopy()
First I put it inside a Module and it works just fine. However when I created a Class and put it inside it, it showed up some errors. (they are in the code's comments)
