I am trying to edit the assembly description for my vb.net application. However I'm stuck and have been for about an hour. Here's the following line i'm trying to edit in AssemblyInfo.vb:[code]but the program keeps throwing me an error stating 'constant expression is required.' I have also tried and \n with no luck either. I haven't found an answer online and was wondering if someone could point me in the right direction.
Is there any way, in my project's properties, to put a carriage return or a line feed in the Description field of the Assembly Information dialog box, in which the Description information would then appear in the description field of the about box of my project?
I want to get the description of an external .exe file from my vb.net app, rather like in task manager. My program can monitor active processes and open their file locations, but it cannot get their descriptions (like in task manager) I want it to be able to do this, and I've found the following code to get the description of a normal file (I had to re-write it from csharp):
Public Class Myform Imports System.Runtime.InteropServices <StructLayout(LayoutKind.Sequential)> _
[Code]....
For example, if the process 'dwm.exe' is open, then I want my program to get the description "Desktop Window Manager." I want it to be universal for any program so it can be done with any open process.
is there any way to get the Description of an application using VB.NET? So for example, instead of displaying Word.doc, Powerpoint.ppt... etc in a listbox, is it possible to display Microsoft Office Word 2007 if lets say the default return name is the shortcut name(with extension)?
EDIT: To check the Description of an application, go to your application, right click -> Properties -> General and you'll see the Description text.
This is how it goes. Currently, I'm using OpenFileDialog to open a file. However, am I able to get the Description(right click any program -> Properties -> General) of the file that I've chosen from there? I've found some leads with this .NET Application's Assembly path and Information. But that only applies to your own application itself.
Currently my Application.Info.Description is set to "".I'd like to change it to something else. The Description property is read only - is there a way that I can reset it?
I created an application with some Crystal Reports. I published the application and installed it on the machine which is my develop machine. This machine has Vista on it and is runnig the application 100%. When I install it on a different machine with windows XP, it runs fine until it tries to load the mybase.new. It generates a windows error with no description.
When I go to my project properties I can see the Assembly Name under the Application tab. Now if I click the Assembly Information button I see some other settings such as title, description, company, etc. I can get the name by doing: Assembly.LoadFile("c:\filepath").GetName().Name.ToString()My question is how can I get the title, description, company, etc. I have tried a few things but nothing seems to work. Also I was told that you can create custom settings. How would you do this and how would you access them?
ASP.NET pros out there can answer this question. I have a single web application that contains a website and a web service - both have several assembly references in common (data access layer, utilities, etc) - however, recent changes made to the web service will require different versions of the common assemblies, versions that the website won't work with (in case you're wondering, the website is some legacy 1.x .NET code that explodes when using the newer version assemblies.)
allow my web service to reference one version and have my website reference another? I can obviously have only one version with the same name within the bin folder.(P.S. - It just dawned on me that I could probably compile and reference the common assemblies with a different name, and place those in the web app's bin folder - but that sounds really fugly...)
I work with VB.NET 2005 and I want to set the application EXE name according to a certain condition. For example: I have a variable its name Version If Version = 1 EXE name will be CarsApp Else If Version = 2 EXE name will be BuildingApp and so on.
Anyone know of a library/assembly that can be used to generate a PDF from within a .net application.I know there are free PDF 'printer' drivers that could be installed separately but is there anything that can do it directly from within the application? For example a DLL that I can deploy with my application.
I am creating DLL file using c# .For that i need one DLL file. That is created in VB.so i just i add that dll file into my project via add reference option. But when run the projects am getting this error.
Could not load file or assembly 'BOL3, Version=1.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=null' or one of its dependencies. The system cannot find the file specified.
I created a simple appication that loads a local Crystal Report into the CrystalReportViewer and then exports that report to PDF. I am able to run this application on my own computer, but when I try and run it on another computer it just errors out. I had to import the Crystal Report assembly into the application so I could get it to properly work. According to the error message, it seems to fail on the Crystal Report import statement. I have tried to install a couple of packages from SAP, but none of them seem to work?
I am trying to store an enum in my application settings. This enum is defined within my main assembly in the same namespace. When I try to find the type under the application settings, it seems like I can't find any types within my namespace. I can see all the types of the assemblies I reference though.
I have a solution which contains multiple WAPs (Web Application projects). Every WAP has it's own Web Deploy project in order to be able to precompile these sites. On one of the web app we are created a new WCF file with
In our application user needs to login to a particular company. We have an option in menu that would let user to select another company while application is open. When user selected other company the application restart itself along with the settings for new company.
Until first load everything was fine and user can select other company from the menu, but when application restarts itself it throw and exception stating Unable to load assembly. Whereas if we again try to run the statement in debug mode everything goes fine. Basically, on alternative loads we are getting this error.[code]...
When running setup to install published program, the following message occurs: System Update Required: Unable to install or run the applicaiton. The application requires that asssembly CrystalDecisions.CrystalReports.Engine Version 10.2.3600.0 be install in the Global Assembly Cache (GAC) first. This version is listed in the references of the program and in my mind, be included in build. How do I get by this error?

I have recently upgraded an VB6 project to vs2008. I was almost finished when the following error occured. Unable to emit assembly: Referenced assembly AxInterop.MSFlexGridLib does not have a strong name Prior to this error appering, I tested my app several times and it was fine. Only after publishing it did the error appear. I have tried all solutions I could find, but nothing helps. I have read [URL]
I have an assembly containing a number of classes. This is a class library type assembly, not a windows forms application. It's also single threaded. Is there a way to catch all un-handled exceptions so that I can log them?
Out of 70 users of my application 2 are getting the following message when they to run the application... That assembly does not allow partially trusted callers. The reason for the error is that by default .net applications run from a network location have limited permissions. You need to use caspol.exe to add the network folder where your application is being run from to the Trusted Zone. If you do a search on these forums you will find plenty examples of how to do this. It is fairly simple. It will have to be done on every machine that will be running the application and a simple cmd file can be made to do this. The only difference is that I've asked our service desk to install the application to the local C drive which I believe they did.
sAssemblyName is the one I loaded using LoadFrom() actually. After it said it cannot find the assembly, I used AssemblyResolve event which solved my problem :Subscribing AssemblyResolve event :
Private Shared Function MyResolveEventHandler(ByVal sender As Object, _ ByVal args As ResolveEventArgs) As Assembly Return Assembly.LoadFrom("C:\PSIOBJ\" + args.Name + ".dll") End Function
And I thought maybe the error occurs because it cannot find a dependent assembly defined in assembly manifest file I loaded using LoadFrom() already but when I checked the args.Name, I saw it was trying to load same assembly and after that it worked without any problem. So basically a type in the loaded assembly cannot be found before the event adding change.
My old code was using AppDomain.CurrentDomain.Load() and Assembly.Load() methods and they were working fine without the AssemblyResolve event. I was able to reach types in dynamically loaded Assembly from every where within the same AppDomain.
LoadFrom() can find dependencies automatically within the same requested assembly path and that couldn't be problem as everything this dll needs was there. So at first it looked like a AppDomain problem to me as it looks like it seems it can reach assemblies from Load context instead of LoadFrom context and I am now using LoadFrom context. But now it seems I should pass oAssembly instance evertwhere to use any type from the loaded assembly?Doesn't it load the assembly where I can reach it everywhere (same AppDomain) using simple Type.GetType(...) method?
I run the same exe file on another computer, but it gives error. The application works on my pc, but does not work on user's pc.I try to compile the app in other development machine and it is work well, the problem is my app doesn't work on user's pc.

I'm wanting to include a system tray icon in my WPF project, and found this resource:[URL]..which looks like it will work beautifully, but it's written for C# and I'm using VB.net for this project. I downloaded his project and built the notifyicon as a DLL, then added as a reference to my project.
It throws up an error: Unable to emit assembly: Referenced assembly 'Hardcodet.Wpf.TaskbarNotification' does not have a strong name So I'm trying to figure out the best way to proceed. Do I need to strong name it, or is there a better way to do this?
I've got an exception when I deployed my application: "the located assembly's manifest does not match the assembly reference" What I remember is changing the project name from the previous source code, does it affect that much?
I'm asking is for someone to provide me some tutorials or something that can get me on the right track to help me connect an access database to a VB 2008 application. I need to be able to add, edit and delete this database through the Visual Basic application.
How do you change an application level settings after compiling? I've searched Google and am at a loss. I've tried modifying the APPNAME.config file in the deployment directory but it doesn't change the application level settings.
