Edit The Rows And Columns Of An Excel File Using Vb 2010 Express?
Apr 6, 2012
I want to edit the rows and columns of an excel file using vb 2010 express. NOTE : I dont want to open .exl file but want my program to read and edit them according to user. PS : I want to edit them according to cell number.
I am using Datagridview to show some table data from database. It is working but its appearance is not what i am looking for. Is there a way to edit columns and rows manually ?
This is a list of what i want to do : 1. First of all i want to change column captions. because they are like "Fld_name" etc. 2. There is a column that shows date. I want to write a code for it ( convert date type ) 3. I want to add a button at the end of each row and write a code for it ( show detail about that record )
I have a csv file. I need to open it, delete whole row on basis of a column value, Update few of the column values and save the file as .dat file. I am using VB.net 2010
I am dealing with survey data at the moment and i am interested in extracting data of identical 5 columns from 3 excel files and then aggregate them into one excel file.below is the code im working on, fairly new to VBA so my apologies if my code doesnt make sense to you.
Sub extraction() Dim a As Range Dim r As Range Dim wbSource As Workbook Dim wbDestination As Workbook
This is my first time posting in a forum like this, so please excuse me if I accidentally break any thread rules (btw, where can i find these?). I am very new to Visual Basic and have been trying to teach myself as I create this program. I have experience with macros in excel so I do understand some of the coding, but definitely nowhere near being proficient. I am using Visual Basic 2008 Step by Step (Michael Halvorson) to teach myself.
I am trying to create some code in my program that will allow the user to open an excel file and then return the number of rows and columns in the worksheet. There will only be 1 worksheet in the workbook (since this is just a small part of a larger program I am writing). I already tested the code that will open the file in another program and it worked fine; the thing that is catching me is the row and column counts. I'm a bit stuck here and was hoping someone could point me in the right direction. Here is the code as follows: Code: I have another sub for a quit button which I chose to leave out. The last line for the MessageBox is causing me problems.
Is it possible to retrieve the value of a cell from the row and column index of an Excel.Worksheet? I need to itearate through all the rows and columns and get the values.[code]
I have created a picturebox in a form that I want to click on and then it would send me to a excel file that I already have created. I don't know if it is even possible. Do I need to use a button instead?, or am I just way off all together.
So I am writing a program that uses ArrayA(10) and ArrayB(10) and uses Do loops to output the sum of ArrayA(1) + ArrayB(1) in one column then the difference in the next column, then the product in the next column, then the quotient in column 4 of a Matrix(10, 4) in a listbox. And continues doing this until there are 10 rows of 4 columns. I was wondering for tips on how I can get this done.
I have Dataset ds filled up with values Until now I was displaying values in GridView. Now I want that all the rows should be columns and columns should be rows.I have 2 options: Either 1 I can directly convert grid to columns and display it, or 2 I can convert the GridView to html and then write loops to convert. I was trying the 2nd option but I cant figure out how I should do that.[code]With this code I am still getting same as GridView. Please help me for converting rows to columns and vice versa.
Initially my app worked with excel fine, now it causes my computer to reboot only after Excel has been opened (two or more times). I have opened and closed Excel files 20+ times without running thru either of my apps (they all uses identical code for excel) and it has never caused a reboot or a crash.
run either of my apps and have the app control excel has become a crap shoot, it will reboot my computer. Adding to that I then have to do a manual shutdown because the reboot process after is unstable. (System doesn't respond properly). My code in this app is small, should make for a good example. I can provide the entire project to anyone who would volunteer to test it. (First I need to know how to send the project).
I have text files with X Y Z data. There are three columns, one each for X, Y and Z and the files are tab delimited. The value of X is constant over a (repeating) range of Y. Z is the dependent variable.
For example:
0 1 44 0 2 32 0 3 22
[code]....
I need something to take this file and break into multiple tab-delimited columns. In the output, I would like the initial range of Y to be the first column (ie 1 to 4). Then, the second column should have the Z values for that domain (X=0 in above example). Then, the next column should have the Z values for the next domain of Y (i.e. 1 to 4 again, but now for X=5 in above example) and so on. Also, I'd like the first line value in each of the new columns containing Z values to be the X-value they were originally associated with. Thus, I'd like the output file to look like
When I iterate the media items in a Windows Media Player playlist and set the properties of a user-defined class to the attributes of a media item, the first n rows of the playlist are populated with useful information; however, the remaining rows are empty. If I perform the same operation but access the media items directly (e.g., display the attributes to the console window) then all items in the playlist are populated properly.
Here is an example of the output showing the condition:
Inserting song "The Arrest" from album "Jesus Christ Superstar [MCA Original Cast Recording] Disc 2" into database... Inserting song "Peter's Denial" from album "Jesus Christ Superstar [MCA Original Cast Recording] Disc 2" into database... Inserting song "Pilate and Christ" from album "Jesus Christ Superstar [MCA Original Cast Recording] Disc 2" into database...
I have a requirement to allow users to browse directories on our file server, and allow the users to navigate to an excel file open it, potentially update it and save it. I have it working. I have 2 gridviews - the first binds to an array of DirectoryInfo and the second binds to an array of FileInfo. I render the name of the file as a link in the grid, like this:
a href='file:///<%# Eval("FullName") %>' target="_blank" >'<%# Eval("Name") %>'
When the link is clicked, the excel file is opened within a browser. In order to save, it seems they have to do 'save as...' and it's confusing. Here is where my questions are. What's the difference between opening an excel file within a browser, vs. opening it with excel? Can I have a link to the file in my grid as above, but cause it to open using the Excel application instead of the browser? Does it matter that the excel files are on a file server? I think my users would be more comfortable editing the file within Excel - not in the browser. How can I accomplish this?
I finally got this code to work: vb Dim path As String = OpenFileDialog1.FileName Dim myDataset As New DataSet() Dim strConn = New OleDbConnection("Provider=Microsoft.ACE.Oledb.12.0;Data Source=" & path & ";Extended Properties=""Excel 12.0;HDR=YES;IMEX=1""") Dim myData As New OleDb.OleDbDataAdapter("SELECT * FROM [Sheet1$]", strConn) myData.Fill(myDataset) DataGridView1.DataSource = myDataset.Tables(0).DefaultView
Now that I figured that out I was going to try and place the data in a specific location. On my application I have a datagridview set up with 4 columns. What I would like to do is put column A of the excel file under the 1st column of the datagridview and column C of the Excel File in the second column of the datagridview.
Obviously this doesnt work, and something tells me I might need a for loop to import the data, but I have never imported information from an Excel file before and to make it worse I have never worked with datagridviews before so I have no idea how to go about this.
I would like to do something like this if I could: vb For x = 1 To xldoc.rows.length - 1 DataGridView1.Item(0, x).Value = CType(xlDoc.Cells(0, x + 1), Excel.Range).Text Next
I wish to modify a pre-existing procedure to import just the first four out of five columns from an Excel .xls file, which may be viewed as a "physical file" on the local hard drive.
In my application I read data (using data binding) from an Excel spreadsheet into a DataGridView. This works, but the data columns contain text fields (strings). I would like to set the data type for some columns to "Date" and Decimal. I cant do this on the DataGridView (error: cant change properties for data-bound stuff) and I cant figure out how to do it on the dataset or data-table that I bind to the DataGridView. The following is the code I use to read and bind the data:
Using con As OleDbConnection = New OleDbConnection(cs) ' 'open the OleDbConnection
[code]....
The commented out code (below the 'Todo: comment) causes a additional table, but I want to change the table with the data.
I am trying to manipulate an excel 2000 spreadsheet in visual basic 2010 express with the following code but cannot get it to work
Imports Excel = Microsoft.Office.Interop.Excel Public Class Form1 Private Sub Button1_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button1.Click
I'm currently generating some excel files using vb.net (2008). I want to protect the workbook or sheet inside, so that the user cannot edit anything within the file.I tried some options from MSDN but no luck and some other forums but no luck. The following is my last few lines of code in the program.
Code: ExcelReport = New Excel.ApplicationClass ExcelReport.Workbooks(1).SaveAs(ExcelFileName)
I basically don't want the user to edit anything inside the file. Perhaps a printout is allowed.
im usinf Gembox to read Excel files.I'm copying the fields to a datatable, so i have to add the columns to the datatable first. Therefor im using this code:
For i As Integer = 0 To objWorksheet.Columns.Count - 1 objDataTable.Columns.Add(i, GetType(ExcelCell)) Next
But objWorksheet.Columns.Count is 0 even if theres data in 4 columns.
I have a vb.net app that I can read a .xls file into a dataset or loop through as oledbdatareader and it gives the same result. Some of the rows have all nulls when I loop through them but if I open the same file in Microsoft Excel I can see that row fine.[code]From the info above the first two SKU values would come through fine but when I get to the 3rd row it would show a null.Is it possible that it kind of inherits the first rows type and since the 3rd row isn't all numeric if nulls it? [code]
I am creating a shell for a FORTRAN application which reads a tab delimited text file.Because I am using Excel to manipulate data, is it possible to use the Excel Automation features to "save as" a tab delimited text file? The only method available seems to be a unicode text format, which does not work. Or is there another format that mimics tab delimited so that the FORTRAN application will read such a file without difficulty?
I need to read an Excel file (.xls, 2003 format). The data in the excel file is composed of two parts: - The first 14 rows consist of all kinds of stuff, buttons, merged columns, stuff I don't need. You can see this as a header for the worksheet. - The next row (number 15 viewed in Excel) contains column header names - All remaining rows contain the data I need to read. I have tried reading this file using two different methods. The first method is simply using OleDb:
In the following code all goes well until the .Sort line. Then I get an error which says, "The sort method is not valid. Make sure it is within the data you want to sort and the first sort by box isn't the same or blank."I've tried various permutations to deal with this exception, all to no avail. The Range is Selected ok and the Excel data are pasted from the clip board ok. Then I get the error and no sort occurs.
I have created an excel 2003 file using visual basic 2010 express edition with access as backend. The excel is created using a select into query. I would need help to protect this excel file once it generated using visual basic 2010 so that the users cannot edit the same.
Basically i have made an application that loads a text file and loads it into a rich text box
now what i want is at a push of a button i want to replace everything from line 3 onwards and between col 56 and col 113 with the same string for each line
At the min i have no code at all underneath this button part from loading the Rich Text Box by another button[code]...
