Why Didn't It Display The Rest Array

Jun 10, 2009

My project is like this. When I select from "TypeComboBox" and "BeanComboBox", the "PriceTextBox" will display the appropriate amount of the "Private PriceDecimal". But when I added the "Private SnackPrice", it will display only the 1st array, (0, 0) for both array. I try using "Select Case" but doesn't work. I don't know what the problem is. Or maybe it can't be done like this? One structure can have one array?

Private TransactionCoffeeSale(30) As CoffeeSale
Private NumberTransactionsInteger As Integer
Private SnackPrice(,) As Decimal = {{1D, 2D}, {3D, 4D}}

Forms :: Object Binding - Properties Didn't Set The Value?

Mar 17, 2011

it's about object binding, yes it's just a simple binding. but i don't know why it won't work.for summary, i will write about what i am doing:

1. i have one solution, and have two project in it. WaitressDataWin and WaitressDataObject

2. inside WaitressDataWin, i have 'waitressdata.vb' . this is my simple form , there are some basic textbox (waitress name, address, phone)

3. inside WaitressDataObject, i have 'waitressDataObj.vb' is where i put my object class, i have WaitressName property, WaitressAddress, and Phone.one of my property is like this, others are same except the name of course.

Private _WaitressName As String
''' <summary>
''' Gets or sets the Waitress Name[code]....

4. i create data source , that is object data source. i add reference so i can add my second project which is WaitressDataObject and set the WaitressDataObj as the data source.now i have datasource with three properties (WaitressName, WaitressAddress, Phone)

5. I bind my textbox, by dragging the WaitressName (in datasource) to my waitressname textbox .. so on to all my properties.., i also get bindingsourcecomponent, WaitressDataObjectBindingSource

6. then I put this code to my form load :

dim wdm = new WaitressDataObj
Me.WaitressDataObjectBindingSource.DataSource = wdm

7. done, it should've been worked, but it didn't , i don't know why.. , every time i fill one of my textbox, the properties didn't set the value, i put breakpoint in the 'set' part of all my properties but it never breaks anyway.. (the 'get' part is good, it read my property value when i load the form). so i just had problem in my 'SET' Part.

8. I think i had checked on my variable (word, case sensitive,etc), no problem.

Call A Method And Pass In An Object?

Apr 21, 2012

I have a method called ADD in a class that connects to a database. The database class name is XDB. I also have an object named XXX in it's own separate class with properties.One of the instructions for the Button named ADD click event is:

'Call Add method passing in the XXX object

So this is how I coded:

'declare a variable X as an object instance of XXX
Dim X As New XXX[code].....

I know it's wrong since it doesn't add the XXX and the form doesn't close but I don't know what I'm doing wrong.

Releasing Excel COM Object Method?

Sep 23, 2011

Well, I've searched numerous threads and I'm stumped. Though my VB.net experience is newb status.I'm interacting with Excel Workbooks/worksheets with:

Imports Excel = Microsoft.Office.Interop.Excel

Now I'm fairly adept with getting data from the excel sheet with no problem.But each and every time I quit my widows form, or execute a new command_button click to repeat an operation, in the task manager, excel.exe then opens up a new instance.Releasing the the Excel COM object seems to offer a bit of head scratching.I realize that you can get your form to activate and retrieve data from whatever spreadsheet has been directed to be opened, but I can't seem to put it back and close it correctly.I have read about the Marshal. release object methods and garbage collection with no luck so far.Do I need to import another liberary that completes this operation? I would asssume this would be taken care of as apart of the:

Imports Excel = Microsoft.Office.Interop.Excel

close excel instances opened up by my windows form? Somethig like this:

Dim xlApp As Excel.Application
Dim xlWorkBook As Excel.Workbook
Dim xlWorkSheet As Excel.Worksheet

[code]....

(so that it is no longer looked at as "read only" when the spread sheet is opened up from directly from excel)As A minor work around, I've teminated it from the task Bar with proc.kill() but this does not help because my ultimate goal is to just simply realease the excel sheet when my windows form is finished getting its data.This following code does not seem to work.

releaseObject(xlApp)
releaseObject(xlWorkBook)
releaseObject(xlWorkSheet)

Backgroundworker Runs A Object's (with Events) Method

Dec 19, 2010

I have a class that is used as follows:

Create an object

Run the RunIt method

The object runs some code and sometimes raises Event1 and sometimes Event2

I want to run that object using Background worker

Programming the app I wasn't sure of the code so I created the VS project shown below so I could make this post

Many questions:

Which routines in the code are run on the worker thread?

Is the object created on the worker thread?

And are its events run on the worker thread?

How to handle the Cancel. The way I did appears tp work except that

e.Cancelled does not return as true (Done is displayed).

And suppose the object didn't have events how would I handle Cancel?

Is there a better way to handle the basic problem?

I wish the code was shorter but wanted to be sure I prsented the problem.

C# - Convert Static Method Call On Object?

Nov 30, 2010

I have some files in vb.net that have "Option Strict Off" to allow for bad programming. When I convert to c# I use "dynamic" until I come back and fix problems, and this works in all cases But now I have this code:

Public Class ContractResults
'Big class definition
Public Shared Sub CleanCache()

[code].....

And in a file with Option Strict Off:

Public Sub VerifyResults(result as Object)
'Here, result is normally ContractResults
'first it check for that then call this:
result.CleanCache()
End Sub

In c# I use "dynamic", but a runtime error pops up when I call "static" method with dynamic reference. In vb.net, I can called "shared" sub from instance, but in c# this is not allowed

Exception:
"Microsoft.CSharp.RuntimeBinder.RuntimeBinderException"
"Member 'ContractTypes.ContractResults.CleanCache()' cannot be accessed with an instance reference; qualify it with a type name instead"

It seems I must convert code to use actual type, but then this means much rewriting of more parts. Is anyone able to show another way?I want to make sure you do not think I can use (result as ContractResults).CleanCache();Because all types that may be passed in have "CleanCache()" method, but do not inherits from anything the same other than "Object". There are many types (30!) that have this "static" method and so that is why it uses Option Strict Off?

Constructing An Object And Calling A Method Without Assignment

Apr 15, 2010

I'm not entirely sure what to call what C# does, so I haven't had any luck searching for the VB.Net equivalent syntax (if it exists, which I suspect it probably doesn't).

In c#, you can do this:
public void DoSomething() {
new MyHelper().DoIt(); // works just fine
}

But as far as I can tell, in VB.Net, you must assign the helper object to a local variable or you just get a syntax error:

Public Sub DoSomething()
New MyHelper().DoIt() ' won't compile
End Sub

Just one of those curiosity things I run into from day to day working on mixed language projects - often there is a VB.Net equivalent which uses less than obvious syntax. Anyone?

Pass An Object As A Parameter To A Fortran Method?

Aug 25, 2010

I'm currently working on being able to import a DLL written in Fortran into Visual Basic. I've got all the basics down, so now I'm trying to take it a step further. The title basically says it all, but I'll explain what it is I'm trying to do anyways.

For kicks and giggles, let's just assume I want to pass an object that has three double values in it, possibly representing a point in space in three dimensions. In my Fortran method, I want to take that object, print out the x value, then change the x value to 7.5. Here's my Fortran code that does just that.[code]...
