Finding Listbox Index Items And Proceed With Command
May 19, 2009
i'm having a little trouble with a listbox. [Code]. i want the button command to run through the listbox items and proceed with given command. it's not listbox1.items.indexof(#), it's something else i'm missing.
i'm working on a simple drop down button. all the stuff i tried with context strips ended up misplacing the menu in all the wrong places, so i'm doing a dropdown button with a combobox and a button placed infront of the combobox but not the comboboxes arrow click. what i would like, is to click on a item in the combobox and proceed with command, instead of having to click a go button or such..
also, is it possible to fully customize a combobox? trujade..so much work to do and so many choices to choose from...
how do i have my app read a line from a textfile and if that line equals "whatever" proceed with command, this case a msgbox.so much work to do and so many choices to choose from...
i have a checkbox, when checked, contextmenu shows and remains visible until unchecked.. then i ran into a problem.. if i click any other control on my form, the context menu disappears and the checkbox remains checked. i have tried placing
I am using VB.NET (version 2008). I have two types of items populating in a listbox (checked listbox). For example: lets say one is type "A" and other is "Type B". Their names maybe same so if the user sees those items in listbox then he won;t be able to determine their type until he click on them and checks out its properties. I wanted that I add each item to listbox and colour them so that blue for example means type "A" is there and red means the other. So this way I will be able to know at a glance that how many item of what type is present. I guess it may not be possible to do that in a standard checkedlistbox. I am also using component factory's krypton controls which enhance the gui of an application. But I dunno if I can progress using that.
I am trying to find a record within a nested Dictionary, so that I can add more records to the sub-Dictionary.
The intention is to be a dynamic configuration, where no matter what I pass into it will group into like item categories that have already been added. If there are no like items it will add a new category.
Private Sub Form1_Load(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles MyBase.Load Dim xConfig As New Dictionary(Of String, Dictionary(Of Int64, Object))
I have a text file that is automatically generated by an older computer system daily. Unfortunately, the columns in this file are not delimited and they are not exactly fixed width (each day the width of each column could change depending on the amount of chars of the data in each column). The file does have column headings, so I want to find the width of each column using the column headings. Here is an example of the column heading row:
JOB_NO[variable amount of white space chars]FILE_NAME[variable amount of ws chars]PROJECT_CODE[variable amount of ws chars][carriage return]
What I want to do is get the index of of the first char in a column and the index of the last white space of a column (from the column heading). I would want to get the index of the "J" in JOB_NUM and the last white space before the "F" in FILE_NAME for the first column.I guess I should also mention that the columns may not always be in the same order from day to day but they will have the same header names. I know I can use the string.indexOf("JOB_NO") to get the index of the start of the column, but how do I get the index of the last white space in each column? (or last whitespace before the next first non-whitespace that denotes the start of the next column)
I have a checkedlistbox to which a dataview is set as its datasourceI also have a string array that contains valuemembers which need to be matched to the items in the checkedlistbox, of which if complying the checked state needs to be se
what it does iswhen a user checks an item in the checked list box it transfer it to a listboxso i have a checked list box and a listboxi am planning to put another listboxwhat i would like to be able to do is thatwhen the user checks an item on the checked list box it will transfer the item into the listbox [like the one on my previous thread]and be able to show an messagebox with a textbox [ i read its called an input box ] or another form with a textbox and/or combo box will pop up
This is for visual basic 2008 express edition.Ive been trying to update records from the table of my memrec.dbml and dbase1DataSet.xsd in the visual basic environment.Im not using any sql database server but Im just using the built-in sql server within the visual basic 2008 express.I was able to add records and retreived it to display in the textboxes. My 1st block of codes I used to edit records has an error message which says:NotSupportedException was unhandled - Sql server does not handle comparison of NText, Text, Xml, or Image data types.
My 2nd block of codes I tried to used doesn't have any error and it ables to change the records while at runtime but when you exit the program the changes was not save at all cause when you run it again the records that were changed during runtime goes back to its original records.Let me take you a look at the two blocks of codes
[Code]...
Questions:
1.What do you see as possible cause for having an error in 1st block of codes? What's the remedy for that?
2.For the 2nd block of codes, what is the valid update command to be added in the line in order to save the changes not just during runtime but until you exit the program and run it again?

I have two objects that are derived from same the base class. ets say ObjA is the base class, and ClassB and ClassC inherits ObjA. f I have a dim lst1 as List(Of ClassB) im list2 as List(Of ClassA)nd and I want to check for the existence of something being in lst1 that it is in list2, now I am only interested in comparing against one key bit of information that it is declared in the base class and is a string. How can I iterate through the lst1 comparing against list2? I thought I could I overload/override the Equals method but I am having no joy for either of the classes and say some thing similar to
Public Overloads Overrides Function Equals(ByVal obj As Object) As Boolean Dim temp As ClassA = TryCast(obj, ClassA) If temp.Id = Me.Id Then
I enter numbers and Names into a text box and click 'add to list'. THe names go into a seperate listbox to the numbers.I then press 'show me the list' and i get to view my numbers and names listed in the two listboxs. I also have a button which averages the numbers in the numbers list box. But i dont know how to get it to work I will divide by the number of items in the list box.note: The average will be displayed in a label called: lblavg
Here is a picture of my code: http:puu.sh/CsED I have tried: For each item In lstListAges.Selecteditems

How I can find the index for the listview on a listview click event to something like this: Code: Private Sub listView1_Click(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.Windows.Forms.ItemCheckEventArgs) MessageBox.Show(listView1.Items(e.Index).SubItems(1).Text) End Sub
I don't want to use for each integer in the listview as i would keep getting the loops which I would hate to use it. I only want to use something like e.Index. I know that the index is not a member in e, but I don't want to use listview item check event due to loops. How I can find the index for the listview items without using for each integer as only using e.index?

I want to build my own class. In it, I need to recreate a behavior we can see in DataTable and in some other places : accessing items by their name or by their index. How can I reproduce such a behavior. Here's what I mean :

How can I create my class so I can access items in an array (or list preferably) by it's index or an unique Name?

I've been working with a listview. I just need to know how to get the index of the selectedindex otherwise I can't work anything out, if the application doesn't know what is selected... I tried these codes but none tells me the index, I am just lost with it, thought shouldn't be that hard...
Dim index As Integer Dim item As ListViewItem lsvOrderDetails.SelectedItems.IndexOf item = lsvOrderDetails.SelectedItems.Item() index = item.Index
I need to refer to some strings using an "indirect string" in the registry. It should be in this form:
@filename,resource
MSDN: "If the resource value is zero or greater, the number becomes the index of the string in the binary file. If the number is negative, it becomes a resource ID."How can I find out either of these numbers for my resources that only have names in VB? I also need the ID/index for the exe's icon.
This is my first post, but I plan on becoming part of the community now that i'm in a VB.net Class. I've been searching through all of my notes and power-points to try and answer this simple question I have a program that contains two radio buttons ( Residential and Business) and two list boxes (Premium Channels and Connections) I need to make it so that when the radio button Residential (radResidential) is selected the listbox selectedindex (lstConnections) stays at 0 ?
