Force An ASP Page To Postback?

Feb 18, 2009

I've got a handful of dynamic controls populating an ASP page, with VB.NET in the back-end.What I need is when the user changes the .TEXT value of a textbox and the page posts back, the .TEXT value of a Table Cell changes to reflect that change (it multiplies the value of the textbox by the value of another cell).But a Table Cell can't be set to AutoPostBack, and I can't for the life of me figure out how to programmatically refresh the page (force a postback) in the TextChanged event for the textbox.

Asp.net - UserControl Causes Full Postback In UpdatePanel

Mar 24, 2011

I'm having few UpdatePanels on my master page. And then, I have RadTreeViewcontrol on the page, that should cause partial postback each time node is clicked. Everything works fine there.

Since I'm using the same tree on some other pages, I moved this functionality to UserControl. Stuff I've done before, so no problem. Moved some code to ascx, created some events. Everything always worked for me well. But not now.

RadTreeView is nested inside UserControl, and this control on master page with update panels, see below:

<asp:Panel ID="pnlContentWrapper" runat="server" CssClass="ContentWrapper">
<div id="HeaderBreadCrumb">
<asp:ContentPlaceHolder ID="HeaderBreadCrumbContent" runat="server" />

[Code]...

What I don't know is: why is this causing full postback instead of partial? I suspect that it may have something to do with raising my for SelectedNodeChange, but I don't know how to deal with it other way. I need to let other components know, that node selection changed. How can I improve this to make it work with UpdatePanels?

.net - ASP.Net 3.5 AjaxControlToolkit CollapsiblePanelExpander In Master In UpdatePanel Partial Postback Woes?

Aug 8, 2011

I have a content page linked to a master page. The master has the toolkitscriptmanager. On the content page, I have a nested repeater within the item template of the parent repeater, I have a CollapsiblePanelExtender for the child repeater control. Upon partial postback, if the collapsed attribute is not set, then all of the panels expand. If the collapsed attribute is set to true, then all of the panels are collapsed upon partial postback.

The databinding of the repeater is occurring in the page_init section of the code behind, and I am checking the state of the panels by iterating through the items in the page_load event. Nothing appears to be working, while debugging the code, I do see the properties being appropriately set, but when rendered in the browser, all panels are open. The edit event that triggers the partial postback is preformed in a modalpopup.

I have attempted to move the panels into their own update panel, remove the update panel, place the modal outside of the update panel to no avail. The ViewState is not maintained.

Page Code:

<asp:Repeater ID="rptrConsultants" runat="server" OnItemCommand="rptrConsultants_ItemCommand" OnItemDataBound="rptrConsultants_ItemDataBound">

Asp.net - AJAX: Statusbar: Force Update Of UpdatePanel While Function Executes?

May 17, 2010

I have a label inside an update panel which I wouldl ike to use as a status bar.Basically the user clicks a button which executes a main fucntion that performs a series of tasks. I'd like to inform the user as to the state of the function as it progresses e.g.:

Stage 1: Retrieving data...
Stage 2: Calculating values...
Stage 3: Printing values...
Stage 4: Done!

I've tried updating the updatepanel directly from the function but it only updates the panel at the end of function (stage 4) and shows "Done!" (which I understand is how it should work).I've been looking into timers and threads to try and update the panel separate to the main function?

Why A Page Load Would Be Called Twice On Page When requesting Aspx page

Jul 3, 2006

Does anyone know why a Page_Load would be called twice on a page when requesting an aspx page?I am using .Net 2.0 with the new .net 1.1 compilation model installed. Whenever I request a page, the Page_Load on the aspx page appears to be called twice, so does the Page_Load on and user controls added to that page.

Disable Page Cache To Force Page Load With Browser Back Button

May 7, 2009

I have an asp.net website that is using update panels on the page that i cant get to reload from the server. I have this for the disable page cache on the master page.

'Response.Cache.SetExpires(DateTime.UtcNow.AddDays(-1))
'Response.Cache.SetValidUntilExpires(False)
'Response.Cache.SetRevalidation(HttpCacheRevalidation.AllCaches)
'Response.Cache.SetCacheability(HttpCacheability.NoCache)
'Response.Cache.SetNoStore()

When I click the browser back button to go back to the page it says the page has expired. the other pages on my web site work and call the page load, the only solution i found but cant use is to wrp the whole page in an update panel, but i cant do this becuase i have a report viewer on the page that does not work with ajax.

Force Every Page To Inherit From A Base Page?

I have a web app that has a base page.Each page needs to inherit from this base page as it contains properties they all need as well as dealing with the login rights.My base page has some properties, eg: IsRole1, IsRole2, currentUserID, Role1Allowed, Role2Allowed.On the init of each page I set the properties "Role1Allowed" and "Role2Allowed".[code]Should this functionality be in the base page or should it somehow be in the master, and if so how would I get access to all the properties if it was?As there are multiple people working on this project and creating pages some are forgetting to inherit from this basepage, or call the base pageload when overriding it.Is there any way to force them to do this?

Prevent Page Scrolling After Postback?

Apr 13, 2012

I am working with adding up user's scores based on their checks in a CheckBoxList. Every time a user checks a box, a value, X, is added to the overall score. When a user unchecks a box, a value, X, is subtracted from the overall score. No problems here.

The problem that I am having is that using the AutoPostback option in the CheckBoxList properties forces the page to load back to the top instead of staying where the user was situated, which means that they have to keep scrolling down after each check/uncheck. Is there a way to prevent this?

Asp.net - ObjectDataSource.Select() Not Always Firing On Page Postback

May 15, 2012

I have a form with:

[Code]...

Whenever I change the value of MyTextBox and press MySubmitButton, the select method of MyObjectDataSource is invoked and everything works OK. But if I change the value of any of my check boxes (without changing the value of MyTextBox) and press MySubmitButton, the select method is not invoked, thus the "MyObjectDataSource_Selecting" event doesn't take place and I get the same results as before.

One way I found to work around this was to explicitly invoke MyGridView.DataBind method whenever MySubmitButton was clicked. Is this the best way to handle these type of parameters? What I am afraid is that this may cause the select method to be called twice making the page slower.

Getting A Cancelled Postback That's Causing A Page Load Error

Sep 23, 2011

when I clicked the send button it would work, but if you tried to hit enter it would just do a postback to the same page. Yesterday I thought I finally got it so it would work on chrome (it has been working just fine on firefox, but breaking on chrome/safari and it is an app for the iphone). But, even though I finally got it so it would change pages, it is now displaying an error. I narrowed down the cause to a postback that is being called right before the postback I want is being sent which is then cancelled. I assume the cancelled postback is blank because the problem I was having was the page would do a blank postback.[code]

Reading 'Checked' Property Of Dynamic CheckBox On Page Postback

Dec 29, 2009

How can I check the 'Checked' property of a dynamically-created checkbox during the Page_Load subroutine? Basically, I have a VB.NET page that creates some table rows dynamically, based on a number selected by the user. So, for example, if the user selects "3" from a dropdown list, the page posts back and creates three table rows. Each row contains a couple of textboxes, a dropdown list, and a checkbox (which are all .NET form controls rather than plain HTML controls, I should point out).Typically, the user would enter a few details into the form controls, and click the 'Submit' button, after which the page iterates through each row, and inserts the data into a SQL Server table.But if the user ticks the checkbox for that row, this signifies that the page is to ignore that row, and NOT insert that row of data into the database when the user clicks 'Submit'. This works well, but there is a problem. If the user clicks 'Submit' and some of the values entered into the form controls are invalid (so, for example, the user didn't enter their name) then the page won't submit the data, and instead, shows an error to the user informing them of the values they need to change. But if the user creates three rows, for example, but decides to "ignore" the third row (by ticking the checkbox) then when the page posts back, finds some invalid entries, and re-shows the form to the user to allow them to correct any errors, I'd rather the page didn't render the third row altogether. After all, they chose to create three rows originally, but then decided that they only needed two. So it makes sense that the third row is not recreated.

But what seemed to happen was that objCheckbox.Checked was always returning False, even when the checkbox was ticked. Once the page had loaded, the table rows had rendered again, and the tick was present in the checkbox, so it's not like the value was lost on postback. But at the point I check whether the checkbox is ticked, it always returns False, rendering a table row that the user doesn't need.Does anyone know how to get round this problem? I've read lots of articles about the .NET ViewState, and the page lifecycle, but I've yet to find a solution that works. I simply need to be able to check if a checkbox is ticked before re-creating some dynamic controls. [code] But then I basically found out that you can't override a protected member with a public one.

Force New Page While Printing A List?

May 10, 2012

I have a requirement to print a number of records from a database. Each record refers to a second database that holds x number of related records. Just like and invoice header and line items.

I first print the report heading on the first page Something like "Invoice list for May 2012"

I then print the Invoice record headings under the the report heading Something like "Inv# Cust # Cust Phone Address 1 Address2 etc"

I then print that data from the original recordset Something like 1234 DR127 555 555-1212 Somewhereville 245th street

I then print the Line item headings Something like "Ln# Item# Description Qty Cost Selling Extn"

NOW Here is my problem: I never know how many line items there will be so can not predetermine when I will need a new page. I do have a way of telling when I am at the bottom of a page by using the text height and incrementing a value for each line

BUT I cannot figure out how to break out of the line item loop, start a bew page then carry on where I left off.

Once all the line items have been printed I need to start the next invoice by printing the Invoice record headings again followed by the header data followed by the line item headers followed by the line items for that invoice.

I have said that the page break may come while in the line item loop but it actually cold come anywhere in the overall loop.

Force The ASP.NET Page Lifecycle To Go Forward?

Mar 29, 2012

I am working on a custom framework above the .NET framework, and some instructions are not written / called at the good places.
For example, a postback is done on the same page. Then, a Response.redirect occurs right within the page_load; but at this point, the new values of the controls of the page are not yet handled, so they get lost...

Therefore, I wanted to know whether it was possible to force the pagelife_cycle to go forward before the call to response.redirect, so that I can get the right values.

I can't just make that call in another function, because the page I am working on is called by many web applications (about 1-2k), and it would completely change their behaviour, which is not acceptable!

How To Force Webbrowser1 To Go To Desired Page

Nov 20, 2011

I want to use webbrowser to go to a web site. This web site has three possible screens that I can get when I try to visit:

(1) A fresh login page, where it does not seem to know me and asks my name and password

(2) The main page of the site, with me logged in from my last visit

(3) A screen that says something like: "Thanks for visiting and logging out. click here to log back in."

I want to make it so that the webbrowser 1 ALWAYS is able to get to the first kind of page. When I have webbrowser1 navigate to the specified URL I want it to *not* be redirected to already being logged in from last time and to *not* be redirected to the third kind of page.

I am trying to make a program so that it goes to the site, enters my username and password, and clicks the "login" button. This is getting messed up because it does not always go to the first kind of page, and, actually, most often redirects to the second or third screens, to my aggravation!

Is there some command I can use with webbrowser and my visual basic 10 program to make it so the webbrowser is NOT redirected without me wanting it to be, so that it always goes into the "fresh" login page?

Now, when the action returns to the code behind, the instance of the game object is nothing.
