Secure Password When Downloading Files From FTP

Feb 15, 2010

I will be downloading updates for my database and client from a separate executable that will only be used for updating.In order to prevent someone from just decompiling my app through reflector and obtaining the password to the FTP server, what would be the best way to store the FTP password?
I was thinking I could create a table in my SQL database and store it there since a SQL database is way more secure than my app.

Create Dynamic Links To Files For Secure Downloading

Sep 1, 2010

Any Way to be able to access a file externally that is located on an internal network by a simple link. I need a way to generate links to files to dynamically in code. So say for instance I'm writing an outlook add in that strips the attachments from messages if they meet a certain size criteria. then upload the file to a server and post a temporary link to the file that can be accessed any where. I prefer to store the file on an ftp server but for security issues I can't do it that route. is there a way to do this in windows server.

Need Expert Opinion Secure Upload And Download Files

May 3, 2011

I am making a windows form and through this form i want my users to upload and download files stored in a Directory on a machine running windows 2003.Could anyone please tell me the best and secure way to share files on a directory for users to Upload and download and "without letting the users to know the actual path"..User Clicks on a Button and it will automatically download the files from server.User Clicks on another Button and it will automatically upload the files to server.The file name and paths will be taken from labels which are hidden on my form so the user doesn't need to specify anything..I have 3 Options and looking forward to some expert opinion on this. My main concern is to never reveal the location to users and smooth upload and downloads.Is there any better option..i mean from my windows form perspective only and not talking about firewall settings, folder permissions etc...or any 3rd party software to protect data.[code]

VS 2005 Reading Files And Placing Them In A Collection?

Jul 23, 2009

I have created football (American) play creator. When the user is satisfied with a play he has created it is saved it as a file with a .play extension. What I want to do is to cycle through all the files in a folder (probably named after the team), and place each one that has the .play extension into a CList (of ClPlay) collection.I have been able to successfully load one play at a time by using this code...

Dim fs As Stream = New FileStream(diaOpenPlay.FileName, FileMode.Open)
Dim bf As Runtime.Serialization.Formatters.Binary.BinaryFormatter = New Runtime.Serialization.Formatters.Binary.BinaryFormatter()
Dim Play As CLPlay
Play = CType(bf.Deserialize(fs), CLPlay)

...but that was when a specific play was selected from a load dialog box. This time I want to load all the plays in a folder and store it in a collection, and I'm not sure how to modify the above code to do that.

Reading Unlike Delimiter Text Files Into Collection?

Jun 13, 2009

I want to read a text file with unlike delimters into a collection.This is what the file looks like:

_Item 4916 0.00 781.21

_Item 2831 0.02 842.25

there are 10029 items and i am trying to get each items description into 3 different collections: Item "names" (first column), Item "weights"(second column), and Item "values"(third column).the delimiters are as follows:

______(3 spaces)____(1 space)____

considering the amount of items in the file, it would be a complete waste of time to edit it.

VS 2008 : Process.StartInfo.Arguments With A Collection Of Files?

Sep 19, 2009

I need to pass a file's name as an argument and a switch to the executable I'm using.I'm doing it like this:

vb.net
proc.StartInfo.Arguments = "-z ""C: est.txt"""

I'll know where the files are that I need to grab, but I won't always know the exact names. So, I thought I could grab a collection of the files, store them in a variable, and then pass them as an argument.I tested it with one file like this:

vb.net
Dim File As New System.IO.FileInfo("C:...Desktop est.txt") Dim proc As New Process proc.StartInfo.WorkingDirectory = "..." proc.StartInfo.FileName = "....exe" proc.StartInfo.Arguments = "-z" & File & "additional arugments" proc.Start() proc.WaitForExit()

But, as you all may already know, I can't use the & operator with a string and FileInfo.Would I have to then convert the FileInfo to a string first and then pass it through?

.net - Storing Subcollections (filtered Versions Of The Main Collection) Inside The Collection As Cache?

Jan 15, 2010

Is it good practice to store sub-collections of item X inside a parent collection of item X for caching 'filter-queries' which are performed on the parent collection? (They won't be used together (as in color AND type).) Or is it also ok to just Loop over the collection and return the correct entities in a temporary collection?

Collection Index Must Be In The Range 1 To The Size Of The Collection?

Dec 17, 2009

I've been working with a CMS called InsiteCreations 2008. I'm running into an error I just can't wrap my head around. I would even be willing to compensate anyone a small amount over paypal, for a solution. The error is rare in occurance, and appears when clicking about 3-4% of links to other pages within our CMS.The full code page is quite large, but there seems to be only one function associated with the error. The error also only appears when not logged into the CMS. If logged into the CMS, clicking the link simply displays the page as normal. I have already checked permissions on the page from the CMS admin console, and it is public.

The error message is as follows:

Server Error in '/' Application.Collection index must be in the range 1 to the size of the collection.
Description:
An unhandled exception occurred during the execution of the current web request. Please review the stack trace for more information about the error and where it originated in the code.

C# - VB Collection - Convert To A Modern Collection?

Jun 26, 2012

I need to convert a VB Collection to a modern one, like Dictionary or Hashtable. For my approach, I need the Collection's KEYS. Googling tells me that it's impossible. Re-writing the entire application using new collections is not an option as the application is really old and large (converted from VB6 to VB.Net).Using the old Collection also is not good - as there are new components in development.Converting a - for example - Hashtable to Collection works:

using VBCollection = Microsoft.VisualBasic.Collection;

How To Secure .NET DLL's

Dec 13, 2010

What is best practice for securing DLL's for projects you are working on? Certain DLL's I am interested in developing will have data access layer (DAL) and business logic layer (BLL) functionality. There may be several apps that can eventually hit these DLL's to perform business specific functions. What is the best way to secure these DLL's so they can only be used by only creator's applications?Security for both blocking unauthorized use of the DLL's and security against possible decompilation are both desirable.

DB/Reporting :: Secure Data From DBA?

Nov 14, 2011

I'm developing a VB.Net and SQL Server 2005 Express application.Q: How to encrypt string values in the database to secure them from the one using my software and from DBAs (people who have access to the DB Server)? Here is what I tried:First, I used a Symmetric Encryption provided by the .Net Framework. But I noticed that I could not make partial searches (LIKE keyword). So, this is not working.

Then, I used a logic similar to the ROT13 to hide text. Although this logic works fine from VB.Net, once data has been stored in the database, the logic fails to decrypt data correctly. After some tries, I thought that the reason the logic failed was the Collation of the database (I do not know much about Collation topic).So, the first way doesn't allow partial searches, and the second way is not secure and also does not work because of the Collation or maybe another reason.I want to encrypt data. I've successfully hidden the schema by giving meaningless names to tables and columns.

Make.net Function Secure On Web?

Apr 6, 2011

I have a VB.Net exe application that has a function in it that contains my encryption method that is used through out my application. This function is used to generate all my encrypted passwords and files etc. therefore for obvious reasons I do not want this to be visible to end users. In my application this is fine as it is compiled as a .exe. However I want to now create a ASP.Net web based version of my application.

Now here comes the question, if I was to create a web version of my application then this function would be visible to the end users along with a large number of other functions that if edited could bypass security and license control.I would like to know what is the best way to keep my ASP.Net webbased version secure from tampering, or is ASP.Net not the best for this?
