I'm trying to build a function where I can pass in a percentage and it would have that percentage to return a true value. However I'm completely drawing a blank on how to make on such function.
View 3 RepliesI am currently writing a scalar valued function and I'm having a few issue with the returned result. I have narrowed the problem down to a calculation that convert the difference between two dates as a percentage/decimal. No matter what I try the return value is always a whole number

The cast section needs to return the percentage, I know the rest is working fine through some elimination and testing.
I know I'm being quite pedantic here. But, what is the right way to get a true 50/50-chance with a generated random number? Say, to simulate the flip of a coin. [code] I know this difference is close to nothing, but I'm doing some calculations on bell curves, in such a way that it requires true 50/50-chance.

View 2 RepliesI call a function (SaveChanges) to access my business / data layer and save any changes to fields that are marked as an Add or Update and are marked to be processed. This function used to work fine up until 60+ minutes ago. What is happening is that suddenly the function is returning false. After debugging through the code, when it hits Return the local boolean is set as True but when it gets back to the calling method (and uses the return value) it is now False. As I said I went through line by line and debugged it, then I added a watch to it. The funny part is that there is one spot that sets the Boolean to false, and when I put a breakpoint on that spot it is never reached.
Here is the function:

I realize that I can't force an anonymous type into a specific type (like implementing an interface or some other class), and I don't want the overhead of defining a specific class just to match my desired fluent name with the actual method name. So I was able to make the code work like this:

I have a math program that I am working on. One of the exercises has a random word and 6 radiobuttons. The user has to select the radiobutton that displays the exact number of letters in the random word. What I am having trouble with is creating a Public Function to check if the answer selected is the correct one. The radio buttons are within a groupbox. IF Not IsDate(fieldname) then send message back to user on form, otherwise continue.If something like this is enterred - 06/090/10 - It passes the IsDate question and of course fails at the database level when inserting to a datetime field. Although there is a three character day, it still passes.

The Funtion ZZNull always returns Nothing, so IsNothing(d) in the calling method should evaluate to True.
But it does not !
When you run these lines, then you will see that IsNothing(d) evaluates to False

I've created my own version of HexToDec() to properly handle the negative flag. I saw other versions online that used "Not(value)" to do the Pos/Neg inversion, but that does not generate the proper value... No, it's not the most elegant my any means. But I couldn't find anything online that actually worked.
Long story short, I want to return NaN in the case that the function is passed a string that is not a valid hex string...
How do I do that? Everything I've tried generates a compiler error... (assign return value to double.nan, assign return value to non-numeric, etc)

I wrote a function to check the number and make the determination plus pad it with zeros and hyphens where they should be. My problem is I want to return the results in an array. I am getting system.string[] as the return value.[code]...
In my project (which I inherited from someone) there are a lot of functions like:

And they are called like this:
DoSomething(s)
So the return value is ignored (which is object, as I see in the docs). Is it safe to change all these functions to Subs? Could I break something which isn't so obvious?
