Web Service - Return A Value True And Then Continue With The Remaining Process
Aug 23, 2009
I have a Web Service with Just one Web Method that returns a boolean value and a function When a client application consumes this web Service, I first want to return a value true and then continue with the remaining process. I was googling and didn't find anything that I can understand. In one of the message posts I saw threading as one option. I tried that too.
I'm making a Visual Basic GUI application to display whether a number of my ports are open for people to know whether things like my website and my Minecraft server are open.My problem is I have absolutely no idea how to do this in Visual Basic.Basically, I'm asking for something which sends a signal to an IP with a specific port, if it is open then return true, if it's closed, return false. Similar to: http:[url]....
I'm writing a command-line application in .Net. The app itself is fairly simple, but it has to connect synchronously to a web-service, which in turn has to connect to a Oracle database, and those pieces are fond of taking their time.
Is there a straightforward way (without dividing my app exe in two) to continue executing but nonetheless yield execution to the command prompt?
It's Windows, so no "&". Also, I cannot use cmd.exe's "start" cmdlet.
I'm trying to build a function where I can pass in a percentage and it would have that percentage to return a true value. However I'm completely drawing a blank on how to make on such function.
I would like to get message, or true result when DataSet get new record (new row). But, I always get message as "no". [code] Button3 should return "Yes" as new record has been added, but does not? [code]
I have created a Windows service in VS 2005 that monitors a folder for XML files, reads some data elements from the XML using XmlDocument, then copies the files to another location. I find that when I drop 2 or more XML files into the folder simultaneously, it processes them with no problems, but when I drop the same files into the folder one at a time, I will get an error on the second file: "The process cannot access the file <my file> because it is being used by another process." If I stop my service, restart it, and drop the second file into the folder again, it works the second time. I am confident that no other program is accessing this file at the same time as my service. My impression is that the processing of file # 1 is somehow not releasing all of the resources, leading to the processing of file # 2 mistakenly thinking that it can't access that second file.
Dim FileWatcher As New FileSystemWatcher() It points the watcher to my folder, sets up an event handler, then enables the watching: FileWatcher.Path = InputFolderPath
I need a function that would return true if the date provided was a payday or date of next few weeks paydays.Paydays are every 14 days on a Friday (not twice a month).I tried several attempts, but don't have a clue where to start, except that the function needs a reference date to calculate from. [code]
Service1.svc Public Class Service1 Implements IService1
[code]....
For some unkown reason, I can run the VS 2010 client test and it the WCF host works fine. The code above just returns nothing (it's supposed to return a string)
This is the function that I use in web service for getting current windows user.
<WebMethod()> _ Function User() As String Dim p() As String = Split(My.User.Name, "")
[code]....
When I run service on localhost it realy return current windows user name! The problem is when i run service from remote PC, in that case I got nothing from this function. What is problem with this service, and how I can get name of Windows user?
I have a windows app that references a web service I created. In the web service, I created a function that needed to return more than one value. Because of this, I created a public structure in the web service: Public Structure MyRecordSet Public lstOfDataInRecord As List(Of String) Public iNumberOfRecords As Integer End Structure
Here's the function - the return value is MyNewRecordSet: Dim MyNewRecordSet As MyRecordSet <WebMethod()> _ Public Function GetDataReturnList(ByVal sql As String, ByVal sTableName As String) As MyRecordSet MyNewRecordSet.lstOfDataInRecord = New List(Of String) [Code] ..... Anyway, I see it's a conversion issue, but not sure how to resolve it. This is my first attempt to use a public structure in a web service and receive a return on it from my app.
This is annoying. I'm trying to put a wrapper around some functionality that uses a web service to return some information. The intention is to wrap all of that communication into a dll such that the user can simply call functions from the dll to get back information, without needing to care about the service. As far as I can tell, that isn't possible, because the service information, as far as bindings and endpoints, HAS to exist in the app.config of the program that references the dll. That means that anybody using this dll won't just be able to add a reference to it and use it, like they would with any other kind of dll, they must also edit their app.config to add in a bunch of information. That's a simple copy and paste job, but it's incredibly unfriendly, and exposes some of the internal workings of the dll to casual inspection.
I'm using ASMX web services in VB.Net in VS 2005. I am calling a function method on the web service that returns a true or false value. This works fine if I call the the web method synchronously, but if I want to call the method asynchronously, the function returns to a sub and there is no return value; therefore, I can't tell whether the result of call is true or false. Is there a way to make an asynchronous call and still get the true or false result (perhaps using the userState Object)?
For Example: Dim MyResult as Boolean = MyService.GetResult(10) Dim MyResult as Boolean = MyServer.GetResultAsync(10) This doesn't work the compiler complains: "Expression Does Not Produce a Value"
So I have an application that uses a webservice, On the UI side the user picks a table which sends a request across the web to my webservice to return the fields of this table. So after this request is accomplished I have, on the webservice side a series of Name,Type Pairs that I need to serialize and send back to my client. I could use a List(of String()) to send the values back but I want to use a List(of Custom_Class) instead because later I have to do this on a much larger scale and I want to learn on this simpler version.
i have the below code where if 's' is 'TESTERInternet'...it will return true. However if i write...If (s = "testerinternet")....it will not return true. i need it to work regardless of the case but i can not get it...what am i doin wrong.
I've been trying off and on for a week now to get this to work but no luck. I have completely stripped down my vb.net 2008 windows service to just create a vbs file and launch it using a process.I'm dying here. The vbs file creates and is valid. I can execute it manually, the windows service just won't run it!! I'm on a windows 7 machine and the process is compiled and installed as a 32 bit process. It is also installed as local system.
After the process tries to execute, I created a text file and it did so successfully. So, I know that the service isn't crashing out.[code]....
I have the code below (found on forums) that should read the string "34,56,23,74,69" starting from the first address of another process till the end. However when I start the project I receive this error :"PInvoke restriction: cannot return variants." With Search Engine for example, the string is found, displayed and changed without any problems. Right now I have a subroutine that searches the string but only if I put the right memory address, and unfortunately the address changes almost every day.
Imports VB = Microsoft.VisualBasic Imports System.Runtime.InteropServices Public Class Form1 Inherits System.Windows.Forms.Form [Code] .....
I want to add a scheduled task like this: Dim myProc As Process myProc = Process.Start("at", "02:00 /every:T,W,Th,F,Sa c:ackup.bat") When I type that command at a command prompt it returns "Added a new job with ID = x". How do I get this ID in my code, as it's needed if I want to delete the scheduled job? I've tried looking at some of the properties of myProc but haven't found the right one yet. Maybe I need to wait until the process has completed? (If so, how will I know?).
In Windows Vista/7/2008/2008R2, is it at all possible to launch a process in a user's session from a service? Specifically, the local session would be most useful.Everything I've been reading seems to say this isn't possible, but I figured I'd ask here before giving up completely. My service signs on as Local System.
I am working on a Windows Service project that is supposed to start automatically with Windows and it has a timer to check if a certain process is created (in this case "iexplorer") the service should terminate that process. In addition, the user should not be able to stop the windows service.
I was able to create the process and make start with Windows. I changed the property (CanStop) to False but that did not help because after a few tries the servise stops. I used a For-Next loop in the timer to check for the process to terminate but unfortunatly, it didn't work. The code I used is:
Dim theProcesses() As Process = System.Diagnostics.Process.GetProcessesByName("Iexplore") For Each currentProcess As Process In theProcesses
I have a service that needs to run several independent processes, my problem is that it only creates up to 23, from the 24th and so on the processes are not started and a DW20.EXE window error is displayed, it only says that the there has been an unhandled exception and that the proceess is going to be closed. Inside the process.start block there is no error so I guess it could be some limitation somewhere.
A long time ago, on a PC far, far away from Windows, one MS-DOS program (the father) could run / execute / spawn another MS-DOS program (the son). When the son terminated, it could set a return code which could certainly be interrogated by an MS-DOS batch program or, I think, by any father program that invoked it (depending on the language in which that program was written). I have a small utilility which I want to invoke from my application, and, since that utility sets a return code, I would like to interrogate it in my application when the utility terminates. I've looked through the MSDN Library but could not find anything that seemed to cover this situation. Is there a way to do this in Visual Basic 2008 Express
In Win7, I am running a service which launches a process which hosts the office-library (Word 2007) for the purpose doing a mail-merge. There is no interface anywhere. When I launch the mail-merge process with the service as the parent, Word cannot create a document using my existing mail-merge Word doc. At first I thought the problem was with UAC so I changed the manifest to run as admin but it seems like that was irrelevant. When I launch the process from explorer or a non-service process instead of the service it works and is able to load Word and a document successfully. I used Process Monitor to see if I could get some clues as to what could be happening. As far as I can tell, when the proc is launched by the service it is using system profile since I see file paths such as c:windowssystem32configsystemprofile and c:windows mp instead of my user profile folders C:UsersUserNameAppDataRoamingApplication etc. My service is running as my username and not localsystem. I check the username using WindowsIdentity.GetCurrent().Name and I get my correct username regardless of service/non-service invocation. I tried changing the Word startup path in the Application object but again it only succeeds in non-service mode. I tried creating the process from the service in both shell mode and non-shell mode and they both behave similarly. I think the problem could lie in the fact that when the proc is launched by the service the user belongs to NT Authority/Service but when launched any other way it is NT
I have a Windows Service that needs to start other processes under a user context other than that used by the service. I've seen other posts related to this but have seen no resolutionI've tried many things and have been unsuccessful in starting the process from a Windows Service when a username, password is supplied. orking as it's a requirement of our system to do this and it worked fine until recently and only fails on Vista and Windows 7 (works on XP).
The following code is used to start the process. Dim P As New Process P.StartInfo.Domain = Domain
