trying to get my app to trigger som events on a keypress (lets say left arrow) when my form is not in focus.I've google it bu all i can find looks very complicated, is there an easer way of doing this?Or is it a very complicated thing to do?

("prompts")As the user inputs to either combo box or text box, the label should go invisible and a "prompt" for the next input should go visible.I am trying to use Selected Index Changed,Leave, or LostFocus events to accomplish the visible invisible change.Is that the most effficient way to accomplish my functionality? A twist I would like to incorporate: the purpose of the "prompts" is to guide an unsophisticated user through the app the first couple times.After familiarity is acheived the "prompts" can be annoying.My strategy is to allow user to turn off the "prompts" by a check box.Then my conditionals will test the checkbox. checked property and either show the "prompts" or not based on the test. View 7 RepliesI've been playing with VB.NET for a couple days now, and I was looking into key input controls, now I've managed to have it react to keyboard buttons being pushed inside the main form (wasn't hard), where it counts total amount of keys pushed, not what keys are pushed etc.
What I'm having a harder time is finding a way to have this same functionality even if the form isn't active (for example when minimized to the system tray). I did find a similar question on these boards, but it was regarding hotkeys and that user was just referenced to the hotkey API, which is not what I am aiming for.
I am trying to modifying the "Math Quiz" tutorial to be more user friendly.
The initial tutorial does not consider the users efforts to answer the math problems as quickly as possible.
The problem is that you must use the mouse or tab key rather than the "enter" key to move to the next control after answering. I believe using the "Enter key to be much more intuitive.
Therefore, I wish to modify the program to either:
1. Check the KeyPress event of the NumberUpDown controls to watch for the "Enter" key to be pressed, and if it is, check to ensure that the current NumberUpDown control is not empty (= Nothing) and if both are True, to then TAB to the next control in the TAB order; OR
2. Uses the PreviewKeyDown event to transpose the "Enter" into a "Tab" automatically so the application will then TAB to the next control in the TAB order.
With all of the new changes to VB 2010 from the last version I actually used professionally (VB6), things are REALLY different, so I no longer know how to accomplish this same task in the new manner. especially if it contains working CODE, because I have always learned better the first time from an example. here is my version of the tutorial Code:

is it possible to create a class which has the majority of your keypress controls? Like allowing just letters or numbers in a textbox etc. To make things clearer what i exactly want. I have a textbox on my form. This is a textbox for the postcode. The postcode is supposed be something along the lines of AA 1234. This will be checked on lostfocus.

View 8 RepliesIn the application I'm working on I use F1 and also a right mouse click to close the application since the graphics display full screen and there's no control in the upper right corner to close with. I use a good number of different keypresses to control things and everything works fine. When I switch away from the form that the applications starts in to a different form I'm not getting any response from either a KeyDown or a KeyPress event. Maybe someone knows what's going on. I understand that The KeyPress event does not handle the pressing of the DELETE key on the keyboard. I do not want the user to be able to delete characters in the txtbox by using the DELETE key, I want the user only to be able to use the backspace key. I am writing this code in Visual Basic 2005. The following code appears to work in handling the DELETE key, but I am concerned that I might get bitten by the fact that I am using KeyDown and KeyPress on the same control (txtSource).

I have a Windows Forms app, with a TabControl. On the first tab (which is a bunch of textboxes), the CTRL-x/c/v keyboard shortcuts for cut/copy/paste work as expected. On the second tab (which is a DataGridView), the keyboard shortcuts don't do anything. How do I hook up these keypress events to my cut/copy/paste routines? I already have great cut/copy/paste routines for my DataGridView--and they work fine when launched from the tooltip buttons or menus. I just need to hook up those subs to the CTRL-x/c/v keypress events.

I am trying to get an event to fire adding value to a total when a user presses the Enter key. Not getting any compiler errors, and have tried utilizina MSDN's suggestions for IsInput, and PreviewKeydown. None are working..... I have a application written in C# using a usercontrol which inherites from control.
On this control i want to use a PS/2 barcode scanner. Get recieve the response i user control.KeyPress. Some some of the chars gets filtered mostly the double chars.
If I want to trigger an event every hour, I would have to set the timer interval to 3600000. That seems a bit crazy. Is there a better way to trigger events in these "longer than X second" type intervals?

i have to develop a software for motorola mc9090 that reads barcodes and rfids simultaneously, so i need to catch two different triggers: the one on the keyboard for barcodes and the other in the backside for rfids.the problem is that i didn't find any sample that illustrates how to set the trigger to read only barcodes, i found something on emdk 2.5 samples that shows how to set the trigger to read rfids but nothing for barcodes. So when i press any trigger the barcode reader is always enabled with rfids reader.Does exist a way to manage them with separated triggers?

View 8 RepliesMaybe there is a better way to do this. The jist of I want is to have SQL Server raise me 2 types of errors: a WARNING and an ERROR from a trigger when I update a table. If SQL server returns a WARNING the trigger should COMMIT but show the warning to the user (using .NET - preferably through a SQL Exception which is only raised if severity > 10) and if it is an ERROR the trigger should ROLLBACK and show the ERROR to the user (through a SQL Exception).My attempts (needless to say this isn't working) at this was to have a trigger like this:

View 1 RepliesI have a CRM application that I would like to programatically post new records and updates to, based on values in other tables getting inserted or updated. Problem is because of how this CRM app was designed I cannot use straight SQL insert/update SQL commands. This is because the database has some proprietary account#/record ID generation algorithm, and also writes to a log table using some pretty cryptic looking values.
The only way to ensure the integrity of the data is to use a the COM based API they provide. How can I send calls to this API from SQL Server code, I'm guessing a CLR user defined function? Can anyone point me to such tutorial on the web?
The updates I am making MUST be in real time, that is why I need to use a trigger that calls this app's API.
