I have the following code to get the column names from my Microsoft Access database.THE PROBLEM is that the stupid thing orders it alphabetically for me. How do I get it to put the columns in order the way they are in the database?[code]I've also tried a different approach with a string array and for loop to "make it" go to the beginning, but proves my point that its stupid enough to order it for me.
View 3 RepliesIt is not so hard to get the field names from a database via GetOleDbSchemaTable and OleDbSchemaGuid.Columns. It works fine. The field names come i alphabetical order though. I really need them in the correct field no order.

I have made a Database.mdf that contains a table that Includes 3 diffrent Column Names.
1:"ID" This one i set to an primary key and i have also made it automaticlly put a number in order to the list. Like 1,2,3,4,5 for each data added. Data Type for this is int.
2:"WordCombination" Were i enter my word combination that i want it to look for)
3."TypeofCombination" Were i enter what the program should add to what i typed in texbox1 if it contains the WordCombination.
I want my program to se if texbox1 contains any of those WordCombinations in my database. And if thats true, Then i want it to show whats in the TypeofCombination + the text in texbox1 in texbox2. If i enter "What do you want ?" in Textbox1 i want the program to find that "What do you want ?" contains "you want" like in ID:1 WordCombination:you want. So becuse this is ture it should enter TypeofCombination in this case "Question:" + what i entered in Textbox1 to show in Textbox2.So if i write "What do you want ?" and click start. Textbox2 should show "Question: What do you want ?" If i Write "My name is Jake" and click start. Textbox2 should show "Answer: My name is Jake".If I Write "hello you Hi there Jacob" and click start. Textbox2 should show "Greeting: hello you Hi there Jacob".And i Should be able to add and delete Word Combinations Without having to change the program.
I want to create a class (I think) that has properties that correspond to column names in a database table, such that they come up in Intellisense when I type the dot after the class name. Is this possible to do?
View 5 RepliesI have a databound Datagridview. The DGV is bound to a datatable of a strongly typed DataSet created using the wizard. Is there any way to re order the columns before displaying them eg: the Columns are displayed in the DGV in this other Col4, Col6, Col3, Col1,Col5, Col2

I realise that the display order followed the Column order in the database table and by extension, the datatable. I have re-arranged the columns in the Database but the Datatable still retains the old order.

I have edited the column headers and set the column names to the same values as my table names yet the data is not showing in form load I have set datagridview.AutoGenerateColumns = False I know the data is there if I delete datagridview.AutoGenerateColumns = False then the data is shown with the default headings?

I have this strange phenomena in which I load an Excel file. The Excel file consists of data arrange in columns having a column header. Once some computation is performed and another file is loaded into the datagrid, the column order of the new file changes .i.e the column header is changes its position from its original Excel file.

This code when I click on a listview item it is higlited and then i click on textbox1 it will remove the row and place the text in textbox1 and textbox2. Sometimes I select a value in my Combobox by hand, and sometimes the value to show is chosen elsewhere in my program logic. I want to carry out a certain action only when I have chosen a value by hand, and not when the value is changed by the program. For this reason I use the DropDownClosed event (and not, for example, SelectedValueChanged or SelectedIndexChanged). This works fine, but if I set AutoCompleteMode of my Combobox to Suggest, selecting a value from the suggested list doesn't fire the DropDownClosed event (perhaps logical, as the actual drop down list doesn't actually open).
View 2 RepliesI am using a modal form with a datagridview in order to populate textboxes on a parent form. The datagridview is bound to an anonymous type resulting from a linq query, which varies depending on the textbox control whose keypress event is called. I always want to display a key value in column 0 of the datagridview (along with a variable number of additional columns), and then use that key value once the user selects a row.
However, when setting an anonymous type from a linq query as the datasource for a datagridview control, the columns are indexed alphabetically rather than in the sequence selected in the query. This requires setting the displayindex as a workaround, and then keeping track of which column contains my key value. I read elsewhere that this was something fixed in VS2008 SP1, but I still encounter the behavior.
I have to create a report that lists tests that a student has taken and how they answered each question...the column header layout (roughly) looks like:

The problem is that the Gridview doesn't seem to like repetitive column names and is renaming the second set of Question #s to something else.
I have a table in a Access Database that I'm loading into a VB.NET program and I want a way to get the name of each of the columns into a list of Strings. Googling has shown that this is much easier with a SQL database, but that doing so in Access is much more difficult. I came across this question Is there a query that will return all of the column names in a Microsoft Access table? Which gives a way to do it, but when I try the code it just populates my list with a bunch of "System.Collections.Generic.List'1[System.String]"
