I have an unbound datagridview that has 2 columns. Both columns contain numeric data only and will only go to 55 in count. How do you sort a Datagridview Column in collating sequence? I basically want to sort from 55 down to 1 and 1 to 55 in their respective numerical order.

I am automating a datagridview that will hold the name of an object in one column and the number of units in the second column. The datagridview keeps recognising my numbers as a string and doesnt sort them accordingly. Any ideas how to inform the datagridview to sort by numeric?

I want DataGridView to be able sorting numericaly when Column headers are clicked. This common function must be very easy, but unfortunately it is not :(. How can i get write sorting? I am a programmer from Uruguay. I have read the other similar questions about my problem, but nobody has given the answer I need. I use VB .net 2005 and its datagridview. I bind it to a dataset which is populated with a table of MySql. And when I sort the numeric columns, it sorts them as string, not numbers. I have tried casting the data to integer in the sql statement, but it doesn`t work. I changed the format of the column of the datagridview to single or long but it didn't worked either. I really can't believe it is happening, it is a so common need! I thingk It should be totally automatic.

I have 3 fields. 1 field values are numeric, 1 field values are string and 1 field values are decimal. When I try to sort the string value column, it sorts correctly. But when i try to sort the numeric value column, it sorts as if its string value.

I have a databound Datagridview. The DGV is bound to a datatable of a strongly typed DataSet created using the wizard. Is there any way to re order the columns before displaying them eg: the Columns are displayed in the DGV in this other Col4, Col6, Col3, Col1,Col5, Col2

I realise that the display order followed the Column order in the database table and by extension, the datatable. I have re-arranged the columns in the Database but the Datatable still retains the old order.
I'm trying to sort multple colums in the DataGridView which is unbound. I would prefer to sort by using a DataTable/DataView but for some reason another developer in my team experienced other problems relating to sorting so he abandoned using the DataTable to fill the grid :(
Here is the senario: I want the user to be able to choose which columns they want sort on. The way I envisaged was to show a form with a listbox, a grid and 3 buttons (Add to sort, Remove from sort and Apply Sort).
The list box would be populated from the parent form grid column headings.
The grid will show the columns and sort direction.
Button 1 would add the selected item of the list box to the grid.
Button 2 would remove from the grid the selected row.
Button 3 would Apply the Sort in the order of the grid and the columns SortDirection.

I need to be able to sort a DGV image column by clicking on its header. I set the sort mode to automatic in the designer, but when I click on the header nothing happens. Are these columns sortable? If so, what do I need to do?

This is sorted incorrectly by the number (all the 1s first then all the 2s and so on, ignoring the minus sign). How do I get it to sort my column numerically?

I am trying to sort this by date desending but it will only sort by the day (dd) and not the whole date (dd/mm/yyyy) which leaves the months unsorted.

Sometimes I select a value in my Combobox by hand, and sometimes the value to show is chosen elsewhere in my program logic. I want to carry out a certain action only when I have chosen a value by hand, and not when the value is changed by the program. For this reason I use the DropDownClosed event (and not, for example, SelectedValueChanged or SelectedIndexChanged). This works fine, but if I set AutoCompleteMode of my Combobox to Suggest, selecting a value from the suggested list doesn't fire the DropDownClosed event (perhaps logical, as the actual drop down list doesn't actually open).
View 2 RepliesI am using a modal form with a datagridview in order to populate textboxes on a parent form. The datagridview is bound to an anonymous type resulting from a linq query, which varies depending on the textbox control whose keypress event is called. I always want to display a key value in column 0 of the datagridview (along with a variable number of additional columns), and then use that key value once the user selects a row.
However, when setting an anonymous type from a linq query as the datasource for a datagridview control, the columns are indexed alphabetically rather than in the sequence selected in the query. This requires setting the displayindex as a workaround, and then keeping track of which column contains my key value. I read elsewhere that this was something fixed in VS2008 SP1, but I still encounter the behavior.
I'm retooling an app, and condensing my queries down to one, but to do so, I would like to move the columns for better presentation. I am reporting on errors for particlular equipment, and the user may want to get equipment by errors or errors by equipment. Is there any way to change column order?

The problem is that the order for these columns is lost once the form is closed. Ok, how do you save the order for these columns and then restore them to the form once it has been reopened?

1) I make a change on the form that holds the DGV
2)Leave the form open in VS while I play the application ie. debug.
I have a datagridview that is bound to a datatable. When the form is displayed, the column headers have no sort glyphs and the columns will not sort.
I don't see a property on the form that controls column sorting - at least not one that's obvious. This is an area of the code that another developer wrote originally, so maybe there's something going on that I'm not aware of.
I have a datagridview that I'm populating from a SProc. The data coms back fine and is presenting in the DGV without any trouble, but I don't like the order the data is being returned in.A long solution might be to modify the SProc to return the data in a different order, but I prefer to handle this on the UI for simplicity. Also, I know the user can re-order but that presents a specific poblem in the way the columns are structured.Is there a way to programmatically change the order at runtime?Here's the ode I have on the UI. I have a problem with the auto-complete behaviour of comboboxes in VB.NET (with the .NET framework 2.0).I am using a combobox to type in numeric values, and its DropDown list to suggest possible numeric values. This list is sorted in ascending order, for example {"10","92", "9000", "9001"}.The combobox properties are set as follow:
AutoCompleteMode: SuggestAppend
AutoCompleteSource: ListItems
DropDownStyle: DropDown
Sorted: False
The DropDown list is simply filled like this:
myCombobox.Items.Add("10")
myCombobox.Items.Add("92")
myCombobox.Items.Add("9000")
myCombobox.Items.Add("9001")
When I don't type anything, the order of values of the DropDown list is correct, in original/ascending order. However, when I start typing something, the suggested values in the DropDown list get sorted (alphanumerically): if I type "9", the list of suggestions becomes {"9000", "9001", "92"}.I would like to prevent this behaviour to get the values of the list in the original/ascending order. I can't figure out how...A possible work-around would be to pad with zeroes the values in the list, e.g. {"0010", "0092", "9000", "9001"} but I would like to avoid this.

i have a windows form application with a textbox and 2 listboxes on it. The program is designed where i type in a filename in the textbox and the contents of the file appear in the listboxes. In the the first listbox the names of the students and their grades appear in the listbox. In the second listbox each of the students last name and their overall grade appear in the listbox. What i need now is a sorting algorithm that will sort the students to appear in descending order so the the student with the highest grade will appear first and the student with the lowest grade will appear last.

Ok this sort the list from A to Z alphabetical order but how do you sort in from Z to A, i.e. descending order. Summat to do with the comparer? I have no idea how to use the comparer. Or is there an easier way?
