I have an unbound datagridview that has 2 columns. Both columns contain numeric data only and will only go to 55 in count. How do you sort a Datagridview Column in collating sequence? I basically want to sort from 55 down to 1 and 1 to 55 in their respective numerical order.

I have created a program that when a user selects a button, an input box is displayed to type in, for instance a name, when clicked ''OK'' the name goes into a textbox, how can i program it so that the contents of that textbox is automatically sorted into Alphabetical order according to the first to the first letter ?
View 9 RepliesI am automating a datagridview that will hold the name of an object in one column and the number of units in the second column. The datagridview keeps recognising my numbers as a string and doesnt sort them accordingly. Any ideas how to inform the datagridview to sort by numeric?
View 3 RepliesI am using VB.NET 2005 and my problem is to sort binded DataGridView using numeric sorting (but for strings). As i understand problem is the same as in:http:[url].......or in http:[url].......My DataGridView.Datasource = DataTable. I want DataGridView to be able sorting numericaly when Column headers are clicked. This common function must be very easy, but unfortunately it is not :(. How can i get write sorting? I don't find answer in internet.Link1 is without explanable and i think it is for unbinded DataGridView and link2 is for for C+ or C#.
Examples:
Real Sorting when clicked on "Ports" header (other columns need write sorting too):
"COM1"
"COM10"[code].....
I am a programmer from Uruguay. I have read the other similar questions about my problem, but nobody has given the answer I need. I use VB .net 2005 and its datagridview. I bind it to a dataset which is populated with a table of MySql. And when I sort the numeric columns, it sorts them as string, not numbers. I have tried casting the data to integer in the sql statement, but it doesn`t work. I changed the format of the column of the datagridview to single or long but it didn't worked either. I really can't believe it is happening, it is a so common need! I thingk It should be totally automatic.
View 12 RepliesI am using VB.Net 2008 application program. I am using DataGridView, where column types DataGridView TextBoxColumn. I have 3 fields. 1 field values are numeric, 1 field values are string and 1 field values are decimal. When I try to sort the string value column, it sorts correctly. But when i try to sort the numeric value column, it sorts as if its string value.
View 3 Repliessort the listbox that is being populated by data from an exteranl hard drive. The DB's on the Hard drive are contained in folders with a naming format as follows (Jan94 - Dec08)The issue is that on the HD all the folders(yrs) for Apr are listed together and then the rest listed the same way, just sorted based on 1st alpha character. The format I want to show in the list box is as follows:
Jan94
Dec94

I have a problem with the auto-complete behaviour of comboboxes in VB.NET (with the .NET framework 2.0).I am using a combobox to type in numeric values, and its DropDown list to suggest possible numeric values. This list is sorted in ascending order, for example {"10","92", "9000", "9001"}.The combobox properties are set as follow:
AutoCompleteMode: SuggestAppend
AutoCompleteSource: ListItems
DropDownStyle: DropDown
Sorted: False
The DropDown list is simply filled like this:
myCombobox.Items.Add("10")
myCombobox.Items.Add("92")
myCombobox.Items.Add("9000")
myCombobox.Items.Add("9001")
When I don't type anything, the order of values of the DropDown list is correct, in original/ascending order. However, when I start typing something, the suggested values in the DropDown list get sorted (alphanumerically): if I type "9", the list of suggestions becomes {"9000", "9001", "92"}.I would like to prevent this behaviour to get the values of the list in the original/ascending order. I can't figure out how...A possible work-around would be to pad with zeroes the values in the list, e.g. {"0010", "0092", "9000", "9001"} but I would like to avoid this.

i have a windows form application with a textbox and 2 listboxes on it. The program is designed where i type in a filename in the textbox and the contents of the file appear in the listboxes. In the the first listbox the names of the students and their grades appear in the listbox. In the second listbox each of the students last name and their overall grade appear in the listbox. What i need now is a sorting algorithm that will sort the students to appear in descending order so the the student with the highest grade will appear first and the student with the lowest grade will appear last.
View 4 RepliesHow can i change the order that the items are added into the listbox? This is the original order:
[Code]....
And so on... What i want to do, in other words, is for the newest added item to be at the top of the list.
Code:
Dim list As New ArrayList()
For Each item As String In l_input.Items
list.Add(item)
Next
list.Sort()
Ok this sort the list from A to Z alphabetical order but how do you sort in from Z to A, i.e. descending order. Summat to do with the comparer? I have no idea how to use the comparer. Or is there an easier way?
This is similar to How to keep the order of elements in hashtable, except for .NET. Is there any Hashtable or Dictionary in .NET that allows you to access it's .Index property for the entry in the order in which it was added to the collection?
View 5 RepliesI have the following code that sorts a number of names in alphabetical order(A to Z) Q,
1-How do I change it and make it from Z to A??
2-How do I cut back on the number of loops by placing -1 or whatever, because when I do that I tend to get a messy order
Public Class Form1

I have 20 textboxes. each contains a particular number . I want the textbox1 to textboxN to have the numbers in the descending order. If any of the textbox has a zero value then I want to leave that textbox as it is. A sample code in vb.net needed.
View 2 RepliesI have a list of strings lets say the items are like this:
item_1
item_2
item_4
item_10
item_8
item_11
If I do list.sort() I get the following
item_1
item_10
item_11
item_2
item_4
item_8
Somehow I need to get these in order numerically but I am dealing with strings not numbers.
How to use built-in classes in VB.net for sorting the following number in the desired order?
Number: 5,10,24,9
Desired order: 5, 9, 10, 24
I am performing some filescans in a directory where I always neither get ascending or descending order of filenames. What I currently have is a logical order, but what I want to make of it is an ascending order.

I have a photo album gallery within my website and would like to allow users to sort the order of their photos within an album. After looking at very different ways I came across this example [URL]... which is exactly what I need. The photo are stored in the uploads directory and details in the database. The images are displayed using the ListView as shown below:

I have a program which is made with 12 labels, the first set of six are randomly generated and the second set are values obtained from the first set and the user has to choose in ascending order the numbers on the first set.The values chosen will be trasferred to the second set and then with a "check" button that set of labels have to be rearranged and compared to the user input. If the user for example manage to choose the right order, he will obtained a 6 of 6 and he will recieve a message. My problem is on the rearrage and compare part.
The code I made is very simple but is not working, basically it only check if the next value is smaller that the previous and changed its back color according to the case.
Here the code:
'check button
Private Sub Button3_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button3.Click
Dim Score As Integer
Score = 1
[code]....
I would like to have a correct rearrange of the numbers and introduce a message according to the accuracy of the user.
I am facing issue sorting my grid view on date column in ascending order.
Private Sub SortGridView(ByVal dt As DataTable, ByVal col As String)
dt.DefaultView.Sort = col & " DESC"
GridView1.DataSource = dt
End Sub
Where col is "date" and dt is the data table to sort
I need to put numeric values (only numeric, I should control that all numbers inserted are DOUBLE) and put in a listbox by the following criteria:
1-At the top
2-At the final
3-BY NUMERICAL ORDER (I tried to put it in Sorted=True but puts that 122 is lower than 22...)
How could I solve it? And how could I control that?
i got no clue how to edit ListBox items with an NumericUpDown Tool I need to change the selected item in the listbox example->
"7226218; Hemlock; 22.55; 0"
Into -> "7226218; Hemlock; 22.55; *numeric box value*"
After the Add to orderlist button is clicked. It has to replace the old ListBox item and it needs to be saved on a TextBox (the order editor) on form2.
- And order of 0 items may not be accepted
- When nothing is selected, and user presses the "Add to orderlist" button, the program must not be exited with a crash.
- The order (orders.txt) must not be made at start-up, but when the first order is placed.
- When a order has been made, the only way to correct the number is to edit the order.
- When an order is placed, it must directly be put in orders.txt.
- The order must exist after the program has quit.
- You cant order the same thing two times.
- When u type a number by hand, the button to order must be usable.
- The can only change the order amount in the edit program.
My uncompleted code:
Public Class Form1
Private Sub Form1_Load(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles MyBase.Load
ListBox1.Items.Add("7226218; Hemlock; 22.55; 0")
[code]....

if i set the sorted property of listbox1 to true that code will add 0 before the inputted number so that the sorted property in listbox1 will be usefull in sorting integers.
for example i have 1,15,30,36
it will make 001,015,030,036
thats what i think am not sure because i cant edit the code so that it will work in my program.
I need to sort the items in a visual basic listbox numerically, that is, I have a collection of numbers I would like to be sorted increasingly.
I tried to simply use the listbox's Sorted property, but found that it treated the numbers as if they were strings, that is, it would look at the first digit, then the second, etc. to determine the order. That meant that 13 would show before 5, for example.
I thought of dumping all the numbers into an array, soring the array, and then pushing them back to the listbox, but, honestly, I don't know how to go about the sorting. I figured the array would be useless, since the listbox already acts as a pseudo array.
