I am trying to have the option/ability to sort a list by the alexa rank I have attached to each website shown below:
I want to be able to click a button and have the list be organized based upon the alexa rank. Lowest to Highest.

I used a ListBox control, and I assifned to it a list of random numbers, then I sorted the ListBox by usign ListBox1.Sort = True BUT the sorting operation is NOT right! Example of Random numbers: 1,5,7,11,12,4 After sorting: 1,11,12,4,5,7 Whixh is not right, How to make it: 1,4,5,7,11,12 Q: How to make a ListBox deal with numbers as numbers NOT as text!?

if i set the sorted property of listbox1 to true that code will add 0 before the inputted number so that the sorted property in listbox1 will be usefull in sorting integers.

I need to sort the items in a visual basic listbox numerically, that is, I have a collection of numbers I would like to be sorted increasingly.
I tried to simply use the listbox's Sorted property, but found that it treated the numbers as if they were strings, that is, it would look at the first digit, then the second, etc. to determine the order. That meant that 13 would show before 5, for example.
I thought of dumping all the numbers into an array, soring the array, and then pushing them back to the listbox, but, honestly, I don't know how to go about the sorting. I figured the array would be useless, since the listbox already acts as a pseudo array.

I am trying to sort text (File name and path), by having a listbox with just file name and and a datagridview with two columns filename and path.
The listbox sorts it differently from the datagridview. Mainly this is where there is a ' ie listbox puts "you're" before "you are" where the datagridview puts "you are" before "you're".
I thought I would just sort using datagridview and then read from datagrid and add to a non sorting listbox, but this did not work although the datagridview shows sorted, when you go through and a loop, reading each row to add to listbox they end up the same order they where originally put into the datagridview befrore sorting.
What I want is a sorted list of file names only, which will be obtained from several folders and then when clicked with be able to extract the complete path and filename.
I have code with a listbox and datagridview which works ok if I remove any files with ' in them.

I have an application that receives data input from an automated set of devices. This data stream I have managed to capture & get it into a list box which I can sort based on the Device ID & the time that the response was received.There is a set time window for the devices to transmit their data into the application and during this each device is not limited to the number of responses it can send (ie :- Device 1 can send in 2 responses where Device 3 can send in 40 responses, etc).All of the responses are captured, listed & sorted within the listbox (this bit is working ).I now need to extract the last (ie:- latest) entry in the listbox for each Device ID & this is where I am stuck. I can retrieve the last item in the list but cant seem to extract the last item for each Device ID.The code that I am using for the Device response capture, etc is :-

sort the listbox that is being populated by data from an exteranl hard drive. The DB's on the Hard drive are contained in folders with a naming format as follows (Jan94 - Dec08)The issue is that on the HD all the folders(yrs) for Apr are listed together and then the rest listed the same way, just sorted based on 1st alpha character. I have written a custom comparer (implements IComparer(of string)) to do an alphanumeric sort.Is there a way to sort the List using a given index to determine which position in the String() to sort by? In other words one time I might sort by Index = 0 and another time by Index = 3. The length of all String() in the list is the same.For reference this question is similar to Sort List<String[]> except I am using VB.net and that question is hardwired to Index=0.

How could i use that code to work these out based on only partial checking, what i mean with this is, to sort only by the first date or, to sort by the second date, i rather have it sorted by the first date before the arrow because that is the alarm, the after the arrow date is just the event date information.

I have a WPF ObservableCollection which is bound to a ListBox and I have a Sort() method which when called will convert the ObservableCollection to a List(Of T), and undertakes a sort based on a date/time column within the collection.
The data is sorted, even when new items are added to the ObservableCollection, however the date/time isn't being correctly sorted. The data is sorting based on the date however it is very much random when it comes to the time portion. The following is an example of the outcomes I am experiencing:

I use:variablename = listbox.text
in the listBox_SelectedIndexChanged event and this works.
When I use the button_click event I use:
variablename = listbox.selectedindex
But this does not work in the listbox_selectedindexchanged event.you let me know if it is okay to use it like I did above or if I will run into problems and why you cannot use the selectedindex method.
Im creating a registration application where i have a listbox that displays a Course Name column and a Credit Hours column. I also have a textbox that keeps a running total of the credit hours of each course added to the list. When i remove a specific item from the list, i also want to subtract the number of the selected item from the running total in the text box. I can select any other item from the table without the error. "sender" has the same properties as "receiver" in the SQL table.
If I set a ListBox.Height = ListBox.PreferredHeight when the control is hidden and IntegralHeight = True, then set it visible:
a) Actual Height reduces by typically 3-5 pixels after redraw (but not 1 pixel per item).
b) PreferredHeight does not not appear to give the correct integral of item heights.
Is there a way to make ListBox calculate the correct integral Height before the ListBox is made visible, so it can be correctly pre-positioned from bottom edge?

The variables in the brackets [example] do not actually have brackets in them in the original code. These are where the issues are. For both variables, it says, "The type for variable [variable] will not be inferred because it is bound to a field in an enclosing scope. Either change the name of [variable], or use the fully qualified name (for example, 'Me.[variable]' or 'MyBase.[variable]')." Now, I'm not entirely sure if this is a stupid question or not, as I'm used to VB '98 because that's what we use in my programming class at High School. let me know why this won't work.
-Note: The intention of this program is to continually loop the generation of numbers for this list until I tell it to stop. Button1 ends the program, Button2 generates the list one time only, Button3 is supposed to loop the generation of the list, and Button4 is supposed to end the loop, but not the program.

This is what i am confused about; does the compiler creates a new variable automatically when i use the if statement without strictly declared variable? What approach is better in sense of performance?
I am looking for a good resource on variable naming conventions to illustrate variable type and where variables are declared. So I will have public variables, Private variables, private or local variables. I also may want to declare variables with the same name in different class code (i.e. in the code behind different forms). I am assuming good coding would dicatate a prefix for declaration location.
View 4 RepliesI am using VB.NET (version 2008). I have two types of items populating in a listbox (checked listbox). For example: lets say one is type "A" and other is "Type B". Their names maybe same so if the user sees those items in listbox then he won;t be able to determine their type until he click on them and checks out its properties. I wanted that I add each item to listbox and colour them so that blue for example means type "A" is there and red means the other. So this way I will be able to know at a glance that how many item of what type is present. I guess it may not be possible to do that in a standard checkedlistbox. I am also using component factory's krypton controls which enhance the gui of an application. But I dunno if I can progress using that.
