evrytime i add new controls to a form in vb.net the designer regenerates code and asks me to make corrections, so i have to keep on changing the object declarations to global using the 'global' keyword evertime it regenarates code,especialy dataset objects.how can i prevent this?
View 1 Repliesi could use Global x as string in vb6 in a module to declare it with global privelages, how can i do this in vb2008? how to declare a global variable in vb2008? so that i could use it anywhere i want. i know global variables are not recommended in programming but i need one.

View 3 RepliesThis VS010 solution is not providing my intended outcome as a custom override of a 'crosshair' or 'reticle' cursor e.Graphics.DrawPath() is the function that isn't working. This
WORKING solution demonstrates how it's supposed to work. The additonal PictureBox added to a Panel is, for reasons I don't understand, not allowing the 'new' cursor to appear.
Option Explicit On
Option Strict On

I have a user control, and want to be able to update its cursor while it is disabled. For example, say that I have a user control whose cursor is Default. The below code works ONLY when the user control is already enabled; if it is disabled the below code doesn't work and the cursor remains Default: Me.MY_USER_CONTROL.Cursor = System.Windows.Forms.Cursors.WaitCursor
View 3 RepliesHow can I set the curosr to 'cursor.wait' for the whole display screen and not just for the application form? I have tried "Windows.Forms.Cursor.Current = Cursors.WaitCursor" And several variations but without success.
View 5 RepliesI have a custom cursor that I have as a ico file as cur files are only mono coloured and 32x32.
The only problem in using a ico file is that I can't set where the hot spot is and at the moment it is set in the middle of the icon which is no help
I was looking on the msdn website and it said to set the hotspot like this
Dim instance As Cursor
Dim value As Point
value = instance.HotSpot But I don't know how to set the point value to (0,54) which is where I want the hotspot to be located.
I am currently writing a custom control, for a future project. The control uses custom cursors, but sometimes this strange error appears: Code generation for property 'Cursor' failed. Error was 'CursorConverter' is unable to convert 'System.Windows.Forms.Cursor' to 'System.ComponentModel.Design.Serialization.InstanceDescriptor'.

can i put my own custom cursor in ? so when the cursor is over form1 its my own custom one ?
View 6 RepliesI was working on window appication previously where i used to create global variables using modules in vb.net, but i found that in C# there is no concept of modules. so how can i create global vaiables in C#
View 9 RepliesI have to inherit some legacy code in company, which is written in Visual Basic.NET 7.0 (Visual Studio.NET 2002). I don't have much experiences in VB.NET, and this line of code gets me in trouble:
Public Class Global : Inherits System.Web.HttpApplication
Visual Studio gave this error: Error 31Keyword is not valid as an identifier.C:Documents and SettingsAdministratorDesktopPOManWebApplication1Global.asax.vb414C:...POMan
I want that global variables that sit in some DLL will be seen from other DLLs and EXE of that project.
I included in that VB file "Option Explicit On" as the first line .
But still no one can see my variables that were defined in that file . I made that all DLLs of that project depend to that one with the definition
I am using module and all my variables are public .
Option Explicit On
Module LPSoft_Core
#Region "Public"

I have a variable whose scope needs to be global, because it needs to be called in a function as well as in a button press. So I declared the variable in a Module so it would be global.The problem is that the value of this variable needs to be equal to the value of the text property of a textbox in the form.You enter a string into the textbox, in this case I entered "Hello". Then you click the button and it displays what you wrote.You click OK in that message box and change the value in the textbox. In this case I changed it to "Goodbye". Then I hit the button again, but the variable did not change values and the messagebox displays "Hello" again.
[code]....
Here is the entire source code:
Module Module1
Public strDataValue = frmTest.txtDataValue.Text
End Module
[code]....
Note: This is just a demonstration of a problem I'm having in a much larger program so the variable does have to be global.
If we declare a global variable in module in vb.net, we can use that variable in anywhere in project.
How can we achieve same thing in C#.
Previously when we tried to convert a vb.net project to C#, we succeeded in removing the syntax error but we can't access global variable in a form.
I need some solution or guidance. Where I am making a mistake?
I need to add the code below to my global.asax file. It begins with a Sub Application_BeginRequest . My global.asax already has a section that begins with Protected Sub Application_BeginRequest(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) I'm assuming that I should not have two sections with Sub Application_BeginRequest I tried putting the core of the new code into my existing Sub Application_BeginRequest and it returns no errors but it when I try to view the website in VWDE 2010 it times out. Something is causing it to run or load slowly.
This is the code that I'm adding:
<script runat="server">
Sub Application_BeginRequest(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As EventArgs)
Dim url = String.Empty
[code]....
I am trying to add a new global function
I am doing it like that:
Function MessageYNC() As String
{
return "dd";
}
[Code].....
But i am getting error -> Statement is not valid in a namespace. on the first line
VB2008: I would like to set a #Const value in a module and use it throughout my project. Is this possible? It appears that the #Const scope is limited to the function it's in.
View 5 RepliesI want to create a dataset that I can access from any form. I already created the tables and columns using the dataset designer. I read that I can declare the dataset as public in a module, but when I try to access a table I have to put the name of the module in front otherwise I get a "Reference to a non-shared member requires an object reference" error. When I declare a variable as public in a module I never have to specify the name of the module to access the variable, so why do I need to do it for a dataset? The code in my module is:

View 1 RepliesI'm trying to build a language dictionary in VB NET in order to be able to have several languages in the application.This dictionary has a init method that loads from database the entire dictionary and stores it in memory.In the rest of the classes of the project, I added the reference and I can use directly the object without create a new instance because their methods are shared.
how i have to load the dictionary content in order that the rest of classes only accessing to Language.GetWord method obtains the properly record of the collection, same way as My.Settings class.When My.Settings is used from any class the values are loaded. I'm looking for the same effect.This is the code of the class:
Public Class LanguageProvider
Private Shared CurrentLanguage As Collection
Public Shared ReadOnly Property GetWord(ByVal Label As String)
[code]....
Function LoadLanguage must be called when the application loads, in order to access once to database. After that property GetWord must access to the collection with the words and return the result. The problem is that the instances are not the same and the dictionary is not loaded when a class uses it.
Im creating a desktop app with multiple forms. My ideal aim is to create 1 MenuStrip to use throughout the different forms (the same MenuStrip) appears on the different forms. otherwise I'll be copying the MenuStrips from 1 form to another and copying the Event code. What is the best way of doing this? I've created UserControl, put my MenuStrip on it along with me Code, then I load an instance of it whenever a new form loads. This seems to work fine until I want close the Main Form. I've tried ' Me.Hide ' but that just hides the UserControl. So the MenuStrip appears on Form A, when i click a Menu Item I want it to close Form A and open Form B.

For instance in web forms, I can just use Session ("User"). How can I replicate this with winforms?
What I want is a Global Error Trap that will not stop code execution. What I have found is examples where each module requires some code or a Try block. I need it to be totally generic. Everything from UnHandledExceptions to conversion errors.
If I have to use try blocks all over the place then it is not Global Error Trapping.
I need code at the highest level possible that will always catch any and all errors reported by VB.[code]...
If you build and deploy UserControls, Components etc do you give them strong names and put them in the GAC or do you simply place them in the same folder as the executable?I've made a component that will be given to other developers and they will, in turn, deploy it with their own applications. If I give my component a strong name and install it into the developer's GAC then I assume that the developer using my component will also need to place it in 'his' customer's CAG when he deploys his own application containing my component.
View 2 RepliesI've inherited an application that uses a global database sqlconnection object in order to access the database from every form in the application. The connection is established when the application starts.I think to have the connection open all the time it's not good practice and I would prefer to change it so I would open the database connection and close it every time I need to access the database.
Public Sub UpdateDatabase(ByVal command As SqlCommand, ByRef NumError As Double, ByRef DescError As String)
Using connection As New SqlConnection(connectionString)
Try
command.ExecuteNonQuery()

I send the SqlCommand object to the method instead of a query string because I can add parameters to an SqlCommand object.
