View 2 RepliesI want to read a text file and write the lines on different labels. Is it possible to generate labels?
I tried with four labels with label1, label2, label3, label4 names but I don't know how to create a loop to read every line of the file and write it in every different label. First line in first label, second line in second label etc.[code]...
Is it possible to read, write to a text file in resources whilst the program is running. If this is possible then can someone show me how it's done.
View 8 RepliesI'm wanting to write a program where a user can copy text from a pdf file, paste it into my program and it can identify which file the text came from and where in the file the text was copied from. This is so that later on, the user can then select the pasted text, and the program can load up the source pdf and highlight the text section.Are there any components out there which I can use to accomplish this
View 2 RepliesI have a trouble making this code work. When executed, it just creates a correct (with the correct name) file with the extension .txt but the the actual text inside .

Reading a .txt file in VB.net. My file path is C:UsersMyLilMulePepeDocumentsVisual Studio 2008Projectscurtain_calls.txt.

I want to write a program to write in an xml file in this format:

I am trying to ping a text file("C:/Domains.txt") which is a list of domains, then have the resulting IP address written to a different text file ("C:/IP_Addresses.txt"). And this action will be done with a Button_Click.
View 8 RepliesI have a very large text file about 4 million lines that I would like to separate into several small text files based on the strings contained in the first column of the text file. I want to open the large text file, choose the lines that apply, create a new text file with a name that has a number at the end of which will match up with the value in the first column of the text file. I want to then copy the applicable lines to the new small text file, save and close it. I'm not sure how to go about doing this after opening the large text file and using the readline method. What if the folder does not exist? Do we have to create it? I want this procedure to be general, as there could be up to 25 million lines in the text file.
View 13 RepliesI need to make a program for my school (I`m the principal), that reads the text in the memory address of the program and write it down in a txt. I couldn`t find a professional here in my city so, I already have the address numbers. For more information, I use VS 2008. I was trying to make one code to get the memory address, and after I succeed this, I'll make the correct program.
[Code]...
1. It only gets the first 4 bytes(is it?) of the memory address. I want it to get all of them.
2. I haven't discovered how to convert each byte(?) into a character. Is there a function for this?
3. When the program runs, after clicking ok on the MsgBox, it highlights the Next and debuggs:
Attempted to read or write protected memory. This is often an indication that other memory is corrupt.
I'm trying to write a program that will get certain text from an intranet site, but there is a form for user name and password that I have to enter first. I found HttpWebRequest and HttpWebResponse and can use those, but how do I programatically log into the site so I can get the data I want?

View 1 RepliesI've been developing a arcade game, and as every good arcade game, it has an incorporated scoreboard so that players can see who scored better. My problem is that everytime it enters a new scoreline, it deletes all the previous lines in the text file. The code I've been using is the following:
If player1 > 25 Then
objReader.Close()
MsgBox("O " + jogador1 + " ganhou.")[code]............
I've got a program which displays data in a listbox in five columns. All are separated using one or more ControlChars.Tab. I want to write these columns to a text file, however, when I do, my columns lose their alignment. I can change alignment so that it displays nicely in text file, but then it is off in list box. Is there a way to get what I see in my listbox to display the same way in a text file - maybe a different way of separating my columns (not using ControlChars.Tab)?
View 7 RepliesI am trying to write a program that will compare two strings in different text boxes. Then it must add 1 to a third text box for every time a letter appears in both text boxes. So for example if textbox1 said ABCDF and textbox 2 said ABTR it should return the number 2 because A and B appear in both.
This is what I have so far
Public Class Form1 Private Sub TextBox1_TextChanged(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles string1.TextChanged
End Sub
Private Sub Compare_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Compare.Click
Dim string1 As String
Dim string2 As String
Dim Result As Integer
End Sub
Function stringcompare(ByVal string1 As String, ByVal string2 As String, ByVal string3 As String) As Integer
stringcompare(string1 As string, string2 As string) End Function End Class

My program has to write to several files according the users settings, options, and other purposes. But when i tested this, it gave me an error, access is denied. I do not want the user to make it run as an admin nor do i want to find another way to do this, because the only other way is the temp dir and when user deleted files from there it could mess it all up.
View 4 RepliesI am tring to write a batch file to run a DOS program under a GUI as below
My.Computer.FileSystem.WriteAllText(c:convert3.bat", "aften c:movie.WAV c:movie.AC3", False)
When the batch file runs
C:>convert3.bat
C:>aften c:movie.WAV c:movie.AC3
'aften' is not recognized as an internal or external command,
operable program or batch file.
Why the extra data tacked onto the front of the bat file..The below code works but is more lines...
Dim fs As New FileStream(MyFolder & "convert2.bat", FileMode.Create, FileAccess.Write)
Dim s As New StreamWriter(fs)
s.WriteLine(batstring)
s.Close()
How should I modify the following Vb.Net code to write str to the file in unicode?
Do I need to convert str to Unicode before writing to the file?[code]...
I am using Visual Studio 2008 on Windows XP SP3. User has Windows 7 Pro (32 bit). The IO code below works for me. The read code works for user, but the write code only works for new files. If the user tries to overwrite a current data file, then no data is written to disk. I have done all the usual IO checking (valid file name, etc.) and have excluded it from my same code. In my app, FileSave and FileSaveAs both call WriteDataFile(FullFileName). Any reasons why FIleSave would work on Windows XP, but not on Windows 7 Pro (32 bit)?
Code:
Public Function ReadDataFile(ByVal FullFileName As String) As Integer
' reads a Data file from disk
'
' Format is a text file, with [TAB] seperators and [CR][LF] as line terminators

View 2 RepliesI am trying to write a basic .net program that reads from one file with streamreader, scans each line for specific errors in formating and if the errors exist correct them in an output to another file that I've just renamed as same file name.cache.
View 2 RepliesI've been banging my head for a while now and just can't seem to figure out what the problem is here. I have not really worked with XML much and thought it would be good to do some work with it in order to have a better understanding. I decided to write a little program to allow editing a game file. I found some examples on the net of basic XML functions and tried to use one of them in my program.
The Xml file I am working with is huge so I will show just enough to give an idea of the format.
Code:
<?xml version="1.0"?>
<Proto version ='2'>
<Unit id ='0' name ='InvisibleProjectile'>
<DBID>20</DBID>
[Code]...
I have tried different text in the select nodes portion, such as "proto" "/proto" and the above but in every case I get a count of 0 on the node list and nothing is displayed in my textbox.Each <Unit> is roughy 30-35 lines and the file has over 59k lines of units so clearly the count should be rather high but always 0.
I am new to VB.net
I have a simple form with two textboxes, I want Textbox1 to write to a file named C:VALUE1.txt and
Textbox2 to write its value to a file named C:VALUE2.txt
Any text that is already in the text file MUST be over written.
