Declare Variables Dynamically?

Dec 10, 2009

Is it at all possible to declare variables dynamically? Something like Dim Answers & i As ArrayList. What I'm trying to achieve is putting one or more answers to a question into an array. Or should I really be looking at a mult-dimensional array to store the question number and answer? How would I add to and access a multi-dimentional array? Anyway, here's the section of code:[code].......

Declare Global Value Type Variables With New?

Dec 29, 2009

What happens if I do: Dim x As New Int32? Is a object of int placed on the heap? If it is, maybe your application would be able to access global variables faster if they were reference types.

A global variable as an value type should be somewhere at the bottom of the stack most of the time and it might take more time to get to this then to get a object from the heap. Unless it's the same story with the pointer of this object is also at the bottom of the stack of course.

Create An Isolated Context Which Allows Declare Two Variables

Nov 29, 2011

I put "isolated context" in quotes because I don't know what else you would call it. Basically, in C#, you can do this:

{ int i = 0; }
{ int i = 1; }

The curly braces create an isolated context which allows you to declare two variables with the same name in the same method or property logic. Is this possible in VB.NET? Also, what do you call this aside from an isolated context?

Declare Variables For The Average Score And The Letter Grade?

Apr 18, 2011

I am taking an online class and I am having trouble getting my solution to work. My assignment is as follows: In the function, declare variables for the average score and the letter grade. Calculate the average, use If/ElseIf statements to determine the letter grade, and return the letter grade.

Create a subprocedure for the Click event for the btnDisplay button. It should call the CalculateGrade function with three arguments (the three test scores from the text boxes), and display the returned value in the lblGrade box.I have looked all over the internet and have had no luck finding an example to look at I am taking an online class and I am having trouble getting my solution to work. Multidimensional Array And The Variables To Get The Program To Work ?

May 5, 2011

I get what I'm supposed to do, and this is my 9th project in this class so I'm not new to the coding and how it works, but for some reason I'm having a hard time wrapping my mind around the multidimensional array and the variables to get the program to work. Here is the first part of the instructions I was given for the project:

Write a program that will determine the cost of a Yacht rental based upon yacht type, the size of the yacht and the number of hours the yacht is rented. There are three categories of yachts: Ranger, Catalina, and Excalibur; and three yachts sizes: 20 feet, 30 feet, and 40 feet. The rental cost is the yacht price multiplied by the number of hours rented. Create an array to hold the rental prices.

RangerCatalinaExcalibur
20 feet 95.00105.00125.00
30 feet110.00130.00150.00(prices per hour,
40 feet120.00145.00180.00 multi-dimensional array)

Use a data structure that contains the following fields: yacht type, yacht size, price per hour and cost of the rental. Limit the number of transactions to 20. Each time the Calculate Price button is pressed, look up the rental price from the price array and display it on the form along with the rental cost. Add the appropriate information to the data structure to create a transaction history.

Here's my code, the top with the variables:

vb.net

Public Class YachtRentalMainForm

'Variables

[CODE]...................

And here's my calculate button code where I'm having the most trouble:

vb.net

Private Sub CalculateButton_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles CalculateButton.Click

[CODE]......................

I'm not getting errors anymore thankfully, but when I run the program... I choose my yacht type and size and input hours, it doesn't matter how many hours I put in - the price doesn't change. I know I'm missing something, maybe I've just been staring at it too long and need a fresh set of eyes to give it a look over and tell me what I'm missing? It also isn't calculating properly. 40 foot excalibur is supposed to charge $180 per hour and instead it's charging $125 flat rate.

Sql - Inserting Variables Into A Query String - It Won't Work

Apr 22, 2010

Basically i have a query string that when i hardcode in the catalogue value its fine. when I try adding it via a variable it just doesn't pick it up.This works:

Dim WaspConnection As New SqlConnection("Data Source=JURA;Initial Catalog=WaspTrackAsset_NROI;User id=" & ConfigurationManager.AppSettings("WASPDBUserName") & ";Password='" & ConfigurationManager.AppSettings("WASPDBPassword").ToString & "';")

This doesn't:

Public Sub GetWASPAcr()
connection.Open()
Dim dt As New DataTable()
Dim username As String = HttpContext.Current.User.Identity.Name

[code]....

When I debug the catalog is empty in the query string but the WASP variable holds the value "WaspTrackAsset_NROI"

PerformClick() Doesn't Work - How To Make It Work

Feb 2, 2011

I have an application that requires data be entered, and after entering, a button is clicked to process that data. Clicking the button works just as it should--the data is processed properly. In constructing a test module, I provide a set of data values, followed by:

btnWhatever.PerformClick()

Nothing happens. I have used this syntax for years, and it has always worked flawlessly. I have triple checked everything else and isolated the problem to the failure of the PerformClick(). The PerformClick() is in a test subroutine that does nothing but fill textboxes and labels with default data, then calls the PerformClick() on the button to begin processing. Again, the button works fine, the data is entered as it should be, but the PerformClick() does not fire the click event.
