Catching Parallel Tasks If They Stop Prematurely?
May 16, 2012I received some good advice previously on parallel.foreach vs Task.Factory.StartNew. I have implemented both and have been surprised with the efficiency of both. I used the following link o try and understand exceptions and incorporate it to be notified if a task stops for any reason the program will detect it. Is there any definitive way to do this without wait() or waitall which will tie off the interface and other tasks running at the same time.

Press Stop Debugging/ Task Manager End Process?
Feb 15, 2012When I go to Debug my program (F5), the program will load, until I click on the form with the main part of code in it, and then the program freezes, although it doesn't lock up because as soon as I press stop debugging/ task manager end process, it closes fine.

I must kill a conflicting program that cannot share the COM port and then reinstate when myprogram ends. To reinstate I use: System.Diagnostics.Process.Start(conflictingPath & conflictingProgram)
In the last line of my Form1.Closed I try to end all with:System.Windows.Forms.Application.Exit()
Not working - each time I run this program it does kill the conflicting program, can do its dialing function and upon closing reinstates the conflicting program. But each time another copy shows under Task Manager.

Aug 17, 2009I'm using a While loop that loops a certain number of cycles (1-576) based on a value entered by a user. It's activated by the user clicking a "Start" button, But I would like it to be able to be canceled using, preferably, the "Escape" key. However, when the loop is going I can't get the program to recognize any keypresses.

Feb 26, 2009Alright, so I'm still working on the slot machine. I have three timers all independently going for my three "wheels" of the slot machine.
My issue, is that I'm trying to make a Stop button to stop each timer one at a time, and I'm not understanding why this code isn't working. The logic completely makes sense, and the first "wheel" stops when I click the button, however, it doesnt appear to stop the other two timers.

VS 2010 : Use A Stop Button To Stop A Loop?
Dec 7, 2009I created a form and have the variable inputs for 4 motor run statements. Then with a start button the script starts and it is surrounded by a for next statement to loop 10 times. It works fine but if i need to stop the execution of the script with a stop button. I put the stop in a new section but of course does not work to do a motor stop. It just causes the exe to not respond till the loop is complete. Just need to be able to stop the Run1_Click button section.
Edit:I do not mind if it finishes the 4 motor run commands and then stops execution of the loop. So need to figure out a way to trigger a stop from a button on the form to stop the cycle. For the future the loop will be a variable integer input so 10 will not be the standard.
Edit::Does a ' Do ' statement sound like the thing to use? If so how and where would I place that? Have a Stop button on the form and it would stop after the 4th motor run command.

VS 2010 Stop A Block Of Code Executing When User Clicks "Stop"?
Mar 1, 2011I have a START and STOP button and when the user clicks "start" the program does a whole bunch of calculations and all. However, I noticed that when I was testing the program I clicked STOP the program continues to execute stuff.
My START code is basically a while loop that iteratively does some calculations.
So I just put a boolean variable as the while condition and when user clicks stop its set to false and when user clicks start its set to true. However, when I click stop, the condition is set to false yes but it still executes all the code until the condition is re-evaluated right...so my question is how can I get out of the while loop when user instantly clicks "stop"?

May 13, 2011I am having fun working with System.Threading.Tasks. Many of the code samples I see, however, look something like so:

That's the extent of the sample.Tasks implement IDisposable, so obviously I'm supposed to dispose of them, but what if I just want to "Fire and Forget"?If I don't dispose, will I leak threads/handles/memory/karma?Am I using tasks "wrong"? (Should just use a delegate and leave tasks alone?)
Can I dispose in a "ContinueWith()"? (That seems like playing Russian Roulette.)[URL]..
.Net Application Does Not Comes In The Task Bar - But Can Be Seen While Doing Alt+Tab
May 26, 2011My application displays a Splash Screen. In the Main form load event , we show another form in which user has to be select something. On the basis of that selection , the main form is loaded.
The scenario in which the main form is not shown in the task bar is :
1. Application runs , Splash screen is displayed.
2. a new window is shown to user to select something. this window comes over the splash screen.
3. Clicks ok on that window.The window is closed . Only splash screen is showing.
4.Now click on the space outside the Splash screen , the splash screen goes in backgound.
5. The main form is loaded. It comes for a moment in task bar but does not stay there. when i do alt+tab , it is there .

ASP.NET Impersonation Or Scheduled Task?
May 25, 2012I have to sync information between a users table in SQL and a user group in active directory. For example, if a user is entered into SQL table A then they need to be entered into group A and if a user is removed from SQL table A, then remove them from group A.The application is written in ASP.NET (VB)
I see two solutions:
1) A scheduled task that runs every night syncing the two (written in VB.NET).
2) Use inpersonation so that Active Directory can be updated by the ASP.NET application. The Web.Config file will have to be encrypted in this solution.
I have read articles online that say it is bad practice to update AD in ASP.NET. This would suggest that option 1 is the better solution. Which is the better solution?
Asp.net Run Long Task Separately?

My current situation is,I have a main site say [URL] and another site for generating reports depending on certain user ids say [URL].If I click a button on [URL] I have to switch on the generate report page on [URL] and return to[URL]. [URL] should generate report and set a flag in database of [URL].Currently I am redirecting to the page in xyz.com and add the long running task to queue as follows and redirect back to [URL].

But the problem is its not dependable. Means some times the queue is executing correctly but some times not. There are no errors in long time task. Just the queue is not executing.
