Implement A Choice Of Strings Statements Based Upon The Month?

I guess this is really a Visual Basic question, but I am trying to implement a choice of Strings statements based upon the month.
example: I am making a monthly free drawing, and I have made a SQL db table that has the months as the primary, then the prizes. I want to be able in VB to get the current date (which I can do) and make 12 IF statements that are the Months so that the proper data is pulled from the table.
IF CurrentDateTime.Month = 1 then SelectStatement = "SELECT FirstPrize, SecondPrize, ThirdPrize FROM MonthlyDrawing WHERE Month = January" and so on
So if I know how to get the current datetime, how do i access the month part and apply it? AnnualCountDownTime.Text = DateTime.Now.ToString("D" This is what I currently use to display the time.

ok so i am in programming 1 and im trying to use a like statement for someone imputing a password and here is the details
-Changes all vowels to "X"
-Changes all numbers to "Z"
-Changes password to origonal form

I have an asynchronous task that is executing a function. The function does not contains any looping statements, but instead it is executing series of sql commands on sql server. Now, i have a button on my window that can cancel these sql operations. In other words, cancel the whole asynchronous task.
I know that this technique will require CancellationTokenSource and CancellationToken to cancel the task, but i've seen many examples on the internet and all of them are showing that the function that task is executing contains loop statements in which they are checking for IsCancellationRequested boolean property. But in my case, it is not so. My function does not have any loop statements in which i can do a check on this boolean property.

I have an application where a payment needs to be made on the same day of each month.
So if the day of the month is the 7th. Then I need to take today's date and if it's before the 7th display the 7th of the current month. if the date is after the 7th then i need to display the 7th of the next month.

I have four drop down lists here and I've assigned the datasource and displaymemberproperties so they are populated by a table. When I run the program and select a choice, all four of them get updated with the new choice.

I am working on Datagridview. My task is adding buttons in the Datagridview table based on the case statements. Like In the Present table i have one column called "CategoryDescription". In this column, values are like 3101,3102, 3103........Here 31 is the common. and like 3201,3202,3203......Here 32 is the common. Like there are so many common values are there. So where ever the common values will come there i have to add one button in the Same column.
So Finally my conclsion is at Satrting 3101 and starting 3201,3301,3401.. i have to add one button control 3101 and add button control on 3201 and add button control on 3301.

I have a List<Object> where Object contains Name, Month, Type, Value.
is it possible to sum all the Value based on type, and then based on month?
I am using .NET 3.0 in VB.NET I was doing withe like 4 For loops, but its taking a while to run.
For clarification, I have something like this:

I changed the date of datetimepicker format to yyyy-mm-dd in custom format...but it displays 2009-00-22...the month part is not showing the month of the exact month..how to change the format of the date?

I have a vb .NET 2005 form that needs to load data based on a selected month by the user. Because there is a large amount of data in the table (60k+ records per month) it is taking the query a long time to pull the dataset back and populate the form. how I can decrease the overhead associated with querying a large dataset to populate a base form?
Note, I have created an identity key on the main table but haven't yet indexed any other fields (Though I could use some suggestions on how I should index).

I have combobox for year and combobox for month concatenated to make the date format "2012-01" My db field is RecordDate and is smallDateTime In my select statement im trying to use the left function to find match my concatenated string to the RecordDate field.Here is my code, hopefully someone can help me. Currently im getting the error "Conversion failed when converting date and/or time from character string."

Am using Visual studio 2005 with MS Access. I have a Datagridview with a date column in format 11/23/2011(Month/Date/Year).
Now i want to know how 'search criteria based on particular month and date'.
For Example if select 'Nov' as a month from combobox and click on search button, only November month details should be displayed.

I have a TreeView with dynamically added nodes which I am using to actually contain textual data. I am using the tag field to contain special info for acting upon, based upon the node's tag. I have tried using treeview.SelectedNode.Tag. However, the selected node is the one most recently selected (like with a left mouse click), not the node I right-clicked. I have also tried using the contextmenustrip.SourceControl, but the source name for the control is always the container, the treeview control rather than the individual nodes. I have even tried associating my ContextMenuStrip dynamically to each individual node as it is added. The behavior is the same.A workable solution might be to cause a left-click when I do the right-click to bring up the context menu strip. I haven't been able to figure that one out yet either.

One member of Tag, Tag.Description, is a string, and I want to make a comma-separated concatenation of the Description members.Is there an easier way to do this than to read the Description members into a List(Of String) and then use the Join function?

Currently i have a ReturnSystemDate in a module, so that whenever i need the current date and time i call this method, however my data is saving as in 1 format and displaying in another. I have my variables set up as dateTime to store the current date and time, when calling System.dateTime.now.toString() i get 11/08/2010 Time, however when casting to Date as in CDATE() i get 08/11/2010 time. How can i stop this?

I want my game to tick over month by month at a set interval. I would use the timer control to get the interval. But how can I pause it? Say if one "month" is 5 minutes in my game and user hits pause. I would disable the timer but then when they unpause the game the timer would start from 0 again. This would make a "month" 9 minutes if a user paused the game in the 4th minute.

I'm developing a finance software and I want the user to enter a bill and pick the due date via month calendar. I am trying to figure out how to do this:

I am about to start developing my second application in VB2008. The need is that it has to run on a network enviorment, probably under windows nt, the database has to be on the server so everybody uses the same data. The database is suppose to contain a lot of data on many tables, whatīs the ebst way to go? Access, SQL, foxpro dbf? Also what kind of project am I suppose to start? a windows app? or some kind of .net app.? I am sorry if I am saying dumb stuff itīs just that I am a rookie. Have in mind that after I build the application, many users have to have access to it from different computers and I also want the database to be availbale for a future website with forms and queries and stuff taken from the same database, is ASP the best choice for that purppose?

I'm developing a form that displays conference attendee data.I have a panel control on this form and would like to put a series of buttons at the bottom of this form that will open other forms in the panel. So for example, there would be a button to open the Address form, another button to open the Email form, and so on.There will be 10 buttons total. I have the Address and Email forms set up so far and it seems to work pretty slick.
Before I go any further, is this the best way to do this? FWIW, all forms will have a datarepeater control on them since there can be multiple addresses per attendee, multiple emails, etc.

I have created a small sql database using new data source. i have placed buttons to move to next,previous,first and last row but i am wondering if there is a way of making a button which would randomly pick a row with information from database or just make it randomize them before they are appearing on the screen.
At first i have tried creating random number generator and then joining it with the coulmns in the database. I failed in the end even though i thought it was going to work. Then i thought maybe i have to change the query as in, instead of "Select that and that and that from database" i thought i have to write "Select that and that from database sort by rand", i also saw that some people write limit 1 or more afterwards but i have no clue what it is and didnt use it. Anyhow i tried that query and it didnt work.
EDIT: I also thought about adding all questions into array, or use some sort of indexing, but i have to use database as the requirement.
Also if anyone would be willing to give me an advise of what is best book i could buy, which would cover databases in sql and some beginner/intermediate programming in visual basic.
