Implement A Simple Text Editor Within A RichTextBox?
Feb 8, 2011
What is the easiest way to implement a simple text editor w/in a RichTextBox? For example, one similar to what I'm using here to enter this text (i.e., having a bold, italic, underline, redo/undo, bullet, number, and hyperlink buttons).
I am using a RichTextBox as a text editor. Each chr() has its own color. I am using rtfText.SelectionColor with rtfText.SelectedText. I have to, or I think I have to, Use For/Next Loops with Do While Loops to search for each Chr() using Mid() & InStr(). Of course this works very well but, it is waaaaayyyyy to slow. Some of the files can be over 8MB. Is there a better way? Am I doing this right?

I am attempting to create a rudimentary text editor with buttons that can implement the Cut, Copy and Paste commands. I was able to use buttons on a toolbar and menu to implement the Cut, Copy and Paste commands using the "Command="Cut"" command in the XAML of the buttons on the toolbar and menu but have been unsuccessful in using regular buttons to implement the commands. When I attempted to use the "Command="Cut"" command for regular buttons the buttons appear disabled when debugging the application. Does anyone know if the Cut, Copy and Paste commands are disabled for regular buttons?

I am just new in visual basic and I was given a task to do a basketball playbook application using visual basic. I am trying to do a simple editor that would allow you to design the plays. How do I implement a picturebox (picturebox1) with an image in it (lets say image1) then when I drag it image1 will appear in another picturebox (picturebox2)with a basketball court background. Then after dragging image1, picturebox1 will now display another image (image2) ready to be dragged also.

I've created a simple vb.net text editor using a RichTextBox for a Logic Program. I've got the coloring(highlighting) to to work except for comments. However it runs really really slow after a 100 lines or so.
Note: I call the SyntaxHandler on the RichTextBox TextChanged event.
I'd like to implement some very simple validation into a program I'm writing, but I have no experience in this area, so I'm not sure how to implement it.I'd like one to have one make sure that text entered in to a text box has only regular characters (A-Z, a-z), but I'm not sure how to go about it!
I want to create a text editor control and I tried to download a RichTextBox control in vs 2008 but i can't find it fo free. any one can give me a link to download it for free.
I'm trying to implement printing functionality into a simple program for my company. It's not necessary, but it would be a nice finishing touch for everyone. And really, in practice, my printing feature works. My problem is that each line is printed on a separate page of paper and I can't find a way to just like, print a page.
It doesn't have to be fancy. I know that I won't need word wrap, nor will anyone ever print more than one page. Here's my ginked & modified code thus far:
Private Sub PrintDocument1_PrintPage(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.Drawing.Printing.PrintPageEventArgs) Handles PrintDocument1.PrintPage Dim linesPerPage As Single = 0
Im making a simple image editor and I added Zooming and Drawing with mouse position like a pencil. My problem is When I zoom the image and try to draw on it, everything becomes offset and the lines i drew are not even close to the mouse. Here is My code ( Just add a button1 and Picturebox1 with an image)
Public Class Form1 Dim pen1 As Pen Dim x1, y1, x2, y2 As Integer Dim gr As Graphics
I'm trying to implement a search on a richtextbox. i want the scroll to move to the found area only if that area is out of the visible part of the text.
I'm fairly new to VB.NET, and I'm working on a text editor with a tabbed interface. I deal with large text files. Should I have each tab / text document open up in a new thread or a process? I basically want the entire application to always run fast as the text editor is just one part of it. If I have several large text files open I don't want the rest of the application slowing down a bit.
I'm adding a method to find and select text in my text editor. Everything worked fine, including the ability to find all instances of the text. My problem came when I tried to make it more user-friendly (doesn't it always?). Originally I had only a menu item with a shortcut( Ctrl + F) which invoked an input box.
Then I added a textbox and a button (similar to that seen in a web browser's Find() method) that calls the method in the same manner as the Find/Replace menu option and displays the desired text in the textbox. Everything works fine except that the text is not selected. I have MessageBoxes displaying the values of required variables in 3 places (marked ***FOR DEBUG ONLY***) to make sure that no values are being changed, but all variables are the same. The method still locates the text, but it is not highlighted.
I think it could have something to do with which object has focus. (When I click the button, the selected text loses focus?). But if I click everything with the menu items, it still works...
Here is the
*****code with [code] tags in the 4th post on this thread**** Public Sub FindText() 'Make sure there is text in the textbox...If txtTextbox.Text <> "" Then'Find the end of the current selection... Dim curSelectionEnd As Integer =

At the minute clicking my exit button rather than close/X (something i have to disable but havent yet) brings up the do you want to save message box regardless of any changes and also, clicking the yes button does nothing.
