I want to start a Windows Forms Project (VB.NET) using a simple text editor like notepad. I'm not interested in creating a button and other controls from scratch, I just want to know how to create a form, initializing controls without using the wizard.how to use command-line to compile the whole project?

What is the easiest way to implement a simple text editor w/in a RichTextBox? For example, one similar to what I'm using here to enter this text (i.e., having a bold, italic, underline, redo/undo, bullet, number, and hyperlink buttons).

I got all the code to make the backup, now the problem is to create it as a service.This is my form to the person choose the days and the hour to the process runs and install it as a service, and when it runs to be minimizated on the windows icons near clock and date and another option.

I got this code to creates a short cut on the startup path to my project run Every time windows start's and do his job and close, but now I got a problem, how It should be to VB2010 ? And how it would make a run on the specific days / hour that persons choose ?
I have a solution with several projects most of which are code or control libraries. I have a main windows forms application that references and uses these libraries. What i am trying to do is create a 2nd windows application that extends the main one, but i would like to be able to deploy them as separate exe's.
When i try to add a reference to the new app referencing the main app; all seems fine until i try to run the new app i get several error msgs similar to below:
Error 1 Could not find file 'ADODB.dll' referenced by assembly 'D:Visual Studio 2005ProjectsXXXinDebugXXX.exe.manifest'. <newAppName>
i have tried adding references to all the dll's in the error messages and they are still listed when i try to run the new app. I thought of a few work arounds but they require user changes to maintain separate exe's at deployment. I would like to avoid this if possible.
Is there anyone can post a simple code using vb,that start building a simple games ?
View 2 RepliesI need to find a Windows forms Text edit which can handle MS Word documents correctly.That is documents with Images, textboxes etc (.doc, .docx).I have tried Devexpress Xtrarichedit and TXText Control but when you load a MS Word Document (.doc, .docx) the document does not appear as it does in MS Word.That is Textboxes overlapping images are misaligned or have no transparent background option, so the white background of the textbox hides part ot the image.Has anybody had experience with 3rd party Document .net editors which mamage MS Word Documents correctly?

View 4 RepliesI have a very small VS2008 Winforms project that will not start.When I attempt to start debugging the project, I get the message:'<form>' is a type in '<project>' and cannot be used in an expression.From the file .Designer.vb.The problem is that is indeed a form. If I create a new WinForm and set the startup object to the new form, I get the same message.When I attempt to check the "Enable application framework" checkbox in the Project properties, I get the message "Startup object must be a form when 'Enable application framework' is checked.I've tried creating a new project and moving all the code and designer objects to a new form file in the new project, and same result.Other projects on the same computer run fine.

In this mode the application start minimized and an little icon appear in the notification icon area. With this icon you can maximize the app or exit it.If you exit the app and start it again using the Menu (Start/programs etc) than the application start in minimized mode (and in this case I would like to have it in normal mode) because the setting autostart is still true.Is there a way you can detect when the application start when windows startup using the above registry or when people click on an icon in the programs menu (or desktop)?

I am trying to do a simple editor that would allow you to design the plays. How do I implement a picturebox (picturebox1) with an image in it (lets say image1) then when I drag it image1 will appear in another picturebox (picturebox2)with a basketball court background. Then after dragging image1, picturebox1 will now display another image (image2) ready to be dragged also.
View 3 RepliesI am missing something simple. I know how to bind asp.net datagrids and webforms, but this is my first time trying to bind to an object list of T in a windows form. (I am use to using datasets with datatables and im trying to get away from doing that).I have a simple object list that gets populated on the form load. However if I click a button to add a dummy record the datagridview does not display the new record added. The bindingNavigator (if clicked nextrecord) and "debug stops" all show that the new record I just added to the object list is there.
Even adding the datasource object in the watch list shows the new records are there. They are just not displaying.
I cannot seem to figure out as to why the new record is not being displayed in the datagridview when I can see the record got clearly added to the datasource.

on a new project - windows form app i would like to bring a simple stored procedure from a server ( with credentials ) with one parameter.

The results could be exported into excel or a screen. ( after selecting the client in the form , another button for export )

View 4 RepliesIn my Windows Form's application, I enable and start a Windows Form's Timer for a state machine which interacts with various User Controls. In one part of the state machine where an external device is being rebooted, I need to disable the User Interface (a User Control's UI) for the time it takes the device to reboot. The problem exists in that once I use System.Threading.Sleep, the timer that fires the State Machine stops and never restarts. I even re-enabled the Timer and re-started it after the Sleep command but to no avail. Is this expected operation or should a Windows Form's Timer be able to restart after a Sleep?

Been doing VB2010 for about a year now, have recently started to push the boundary's for what kind of media I can incorporate into my forms. I haven't been able to play .wav or .mp3 files though. I have tried to follow tutorials on microsoft and other coding websites without success.

I generate by random 2 number A&B I multiply them and I will compare it with the result in my textbox3
if it the same as the computer has calculated il will show you congratulation, however i will say try again

When Calc was working when I write nothing in the textbox3 and i click on Verify it show the msgbox congratulation.I'm looking just for this step, I've fixed the other issues And another things When It's right I would like to random another number for A&B after closing the msgbox, how can I processd ?

How can you access the Start Menu from a VB form for both Windows XP & 2000?
I've done a lot of research and haven't found anything that works for this.
Im making a simple image editor and I added Zooming and Drawing with mouse position like a pencil. My problem is When I zoom the image and try to draw on it, everything becomes offset and the lines i drew are not even close to the mouse. I'd like to write a simple Windows form that will make it easy to record a voice message before uploading it to a remote web server and sending the URL to the recipient(s):

Currently, the user has to use Sound Record to record the message, use an FTP client to upload it to a web server, and finally, use an e-mail client to send the URL. I'd like to combine those three features into one.

I have an application (application #1) running with Administrator privileges on Windows 7.
I want application # 1 to start another application (application #2) without Administrator privileges so application #2 is running as a standard user.
Is there a way to do this? I have been using Process.Start.
I have an error that keeps regenerating when the form is closed and open back up.
1) Windows Form Application (Project: TestProject)
2) Add class in same project:
Public Class Test : Inherits System.Windows.Forms.TextBox
3) Drag and drop into the form within the project (works fine)
4) Close form
5) Re-open form... then error about the class Test in the project not defined
Actual Error: Type 'TestProject.Test' is not defined.
Is there a best way around this besides creating a separate project and putting the 'Test' class in that separate project and referring that separate project in the 'TestProject'?
Modified Added: By the way... i've used Global.TestProject.Test... but then again another error generate with the custom property within the 'Test' class.
Copy Windows Form from projact A to project B This looks a trivial task, but using VB 2008 Express edition:
1 - If I click Solution - Add - Existing And hand pick the 3 form files (the .vb, the .resx and the .designer.vb) then I can see those 3 files as textfiles, not as a "real" VB form!
2 - I want to duplicate Form1 to create Form2 that is slightly different.
This must be a common problem, so perhaps someone can point me to a Knowledgebase article. I've got a form that works fine in a completed project. It's a windows form that uses a dataset and tableadapter (which show in the tray below). Now I'm developing a different project that requires a very similar form. I want to "copy" that form into my new project, make some minor changes, and then save it under a new name.

I am busy with a project converting VS2005/2008 sln files.
I am quite far but have came acroos a problem with my source code.
I have found the files I need to change, I have changed them to the version that I need.
I now need to read the files back into my program and delete the line I have changed as it contains project numbers that are irrelevant. Then I need to save it.
I have got as far where I have searched for lines that begin with 'Project'. I have changed this also so it's now a question of reading the files in, Deleting the line with the 'Project' number and saving them.
