IDE :: Copy Windows Form From Projact A To Project B?
May 15, 2009
Copy Windows Form from projact A to project B This looks a trivial task, but using VB 2008 Express edition:
1 - If I click Solution - Add - Existing And hand pick the 3 form files (the .vb, the .resx and the .designer.vb) then I can see those 3 files as textfiles, not as a "real" VB form!
2 - I want to duplicate Form1 to create Form2 that is slightly different.
I have a solution with several projects most of which are code or control libraries. I have a main windows forms application that references and uses these libraries. What i am trying to do is create a 2nd windows application that extends the main one, but i would like to be able to deploy them as separate exe's.
When i try to add a reference to the new app referencing the main app; all seems fine until i try to run the new app i get several error msgs similar to below:
Error 1 Could not find file 'ADODB.dll' referenced by assembly 'D:Visual Studio 2005ProjectsXXXinDebugXXX.exe.manifest'. <newAppName>
i have tried adding references to all the dll's in the error messages and they are still listed when i try to run the new app. I thought of a few work arounds but they require user changes to maintain separate exe's at deployment. I would like to avoid this if possible.
I am new to software development and need to develop a VB software for one of my projects. **I want to know how can I copy a form created in a project to another.I have copied the form from the old project and tried to paste it in to the new project. But I was failed. I have read one of the answer which have given regarding to another one's question. But unfortunately I am not in the standard to acquire the way I could do it.
i was wondering if i can copy my application to the startup folder in windows when the form loads. The path i want my app to copy to is: C:Documents and SettingsAll UsersStart MenuProgramsStartup
I have an error that keeps regenerating when the form is closed and open back up.
1) Windows Form Application (Project: TestProject)
2) Add class in same project:
Public Class Test : Inherits System.Windows.Forms.TextBox
3) Drag and drop into the form within the project (works fine)
4) Close form
5) Re-open form... then error about the class Test in the project not defined
Actual Error: Type 'TestProject.Test' is not defined.
Is there a best way around this besides creating a separate project and putting the 'Test' class in that separate project and referring that separate project in the 'TestProject'?
Modified Added: By the way... i've used Global.TestProject.Test... but then again another error generate with the custom property within the 'Test' class.
This must be a common problem, so perhaps someone can point me to a Knowledgebase article. I've got a form that works fine in a completed project. It's a windows form that uses a dataset and tableadapter (which show in the tray below). Now I'm developing a different project that requires a very similar form. I want to "copy" that form into my new project, make some minor changes, and then save it under a new name.
I want to start a Windows Forms Project (VB.NET) using a simple text editor like notepad. I'm not interested in creating a button and other controls from scratch, I just want to know how to create a form, initializing controls without using the wizard.how to use command-line to compile the whole project?
I'm attempting to copy a rather complex form from one part of my project and use it (modified) within another part (ie, depending on whether it's maintenance or an outage, you'll get a slightly different email screen).
My first attempt failed miserably, as I had simply right-clicked and pasted the form within the project, assuming renaming the controls would work. nope, I didn't realise that there was stuff in the original form that was renamed as well, and that created a monstrous pile of errors. My second through fourth attempts also failed, generating errors in forms that (I thought) weren't related or connected. Once I deleted the copied form, all was fine.
So, short of trying to rebuild the form from scratch (using a different naming convention for my controls etc.), is there a simple way of doing this? This seems to be such a simple task, but alas I was wrong....(or, at least it's not easy with the information I have right now.
For reasons that are beyond my control, I have three Projects. Projects A and B reference project C. Project A references project B so that it can open a large form in project B. I now need to open that large form from project C, but VB won't allow me to add a reference from C to B because that would create a circular dependency. I found a way around it, though. I created a Timer in A, and when I opened C from A, I passed in that timer. When the user performs a certain action, I enable the Timer from A, and this causes C to open B for me.
Yesterday I opened Visual Studio (2008 v 9.0.30729.1) and all the winform classes in my project display with class module icons with the little 'VB', instead of form module icons with the little form icon!
When I double click on a form module, the form designer doesn't open, just the code module.
When I run the project, it runs fine. There are no errors. The project builds fine.
I did Project --> show all files, and I can see the designer and resx files below the form module which doesn't look or act like a form module.
I have a .Net web application that I want to take a copy of and create a new application that can be worked on independently of the first - i.e. I want to branch the codebase.
I made SMALL PROJECT IN VB.NET ( USING TABLE, GRIDS) ON MY FRIENDS LAPTOP NOW I M UNABLE TO USE IT ON MY LAPTOP...FORMS ARE NOT WORKING ON MY LAPTOP..M NEW IN VB.NET
ok I have a baseline working project.. now I need to copy it off and make new versions that attach to new systems.. but I want to always start with my working base code.. whats the best way to copy the project to a new dir..
I have a VS 2005 project. I want to create a project that is exactly the same except for the back end database name. Table names and structure, form names, etc., would not change. What is the easiest way to accomplish this? Copy the project? Start a new project and copy all forms, datasets, etc.?
This has to be really simple and I am completely missing the boat. I have a VB2008 express windows forms project with several forms and an access database that I work on here at work. I want to copy it to a thumb drive and take it home and work on it there, then bring it back, etc.
I did a project in VB for a class last week. This weeks project requires we add on to the last project. Is there a way to copy the whole project, then modify the copied version so I can keep the original?
I will be working with another programmer today. He is just installing VB 2010 Express this morning on his computer. My question is how do I copy some of my projects over to his computer. Will copying the folder(s) under C:Documents and SettingsMy_User_NameMy DocumentsVisual Studio 2010 Projects.. be sufficient or will there be other support files I need to copy as well?
I have a project, that has alot of controls (mostly buttons, arranges in group boxes, withing )Is there an easy way to drag and drop them to another project and maintain control names, so that I can copy all event code etc.?Another question - how can I move controls within tab control's pages? As I recall, cut - paste loses it's event code.
I am developing a fairly complex vb.net program with numerous forms, and custom classes, modules, etc. I want to start reorganizing the various folders for components of the program and have a few stupid questions. For one, I find that I cannot take a working executable and move it to a different folder on the same machine and have it work. My program drives numerous slave applications and I would like to group just the executables in a common folder. Do I need to carry additional files along with them to make them 'portable' on my own machine? I haven't discovered how to copy or move an existing project to a new folder. Things seem to blow up because of internal project references etc. Is there some way of copying or duplicating a working project without problems resulting?
