VS 2008 - Log In With Email And Password And Make Keep Safe Items?

Jul 27, 2009

i have created this programme which is basically a keep safe programme, well it's not created yet anyway.so far i have coded the the log in page, so the user can log in with their email and password.Once they do it comes to a screen asking if they want to visit their 'keep safe' items, or, asking if they want to deposit a file in their 'keep safe'.This is the programme belowThe Reason It say's JMEsseneger, is because i had other plans for the login until i came to face the fact, that im not quite fluant enough in this language to understand it all

1) As soon as they hit 'sign in' it creates a passworded.zip folder somewhere on their computer (using the same password they enterd to login and would only create the file if login is successful)2)The "Open SafeBox" obviously opens the file directory 3)the "Add To SafeBox" will allower the user to browes their computer for a file that they want to add into the "safebox" with a simple select and a click of an "add" button

Derive A Class From Double?

Mar 10, 2009

It seems like SO often I need to attach a "valid" flag to a standard type. For example - I have a function called "CalculateLunchTime" that I pass a vector of times. If the vector has 0 elements, they did not take a lunch, so the duration is 0 minutes. If the vector has 2 elements, subtract them and that is the lunch duration. If the vector has one element, it doesn't make sense to calculate a duration, but I don't want to return 0 because that was for the first case. In this case the valid range is >0, so of course I could return -1 or something, but it really bothers me having these magic numbers running around. I would really want to do something like

public function LunchTime(byval Times as list(of Date)) as ValidDouble
dim lunch as ValidDouble
if Times.count == 2

[Code]....

Of course I could make a struct with a double and a bool, but I have really never seen anyone else do that so I feel like it could be a bad idea (why?). It would seem a little nicer if I could derive ValidDouble from double.

Derive Coordinates From An Array Value?

Apr 30, 2012

I've got an array that contains the following:

a;b;c;d

but it can also be that this array contains this:

a;b;c;d;(0,0,1000,1000)#(1000,1000,2000,0)

So first I do a split on ";"

If Ubound(array)= 4 then I now the second case with coordinates is valid... in this case 2 sets of 4 coordinates

How do I derive them from array(4) as xstart0,ystart0,xend0,yend0 and xstart1,ystart1,xend1,yend1 ???

Do I need to do another split on "#" first and then on the "," ?

Checking AD Password - Create A Password Change Form For My Company's Vendors

Jan 15, 2012

I'm trying to create a password change form for my company's vendors. There are a couple of scenarios I could encounter doing this:

1 - User enters invalid current password
2 - New passwords do not match
3 - User's account is locked
4 - User cannot authenticate because password is expired

It's case 4 that I'm struggling with, because their is no way for me to take the password the user entered and verify it against active directory without getting an error.

Password Characters - Get A Textbox Being Using For Password Entry To Display The Black Circle

Feb 10, 2009

How do you get a textbox being using for password entry to display the black circle that you often see in web forms, on the iphone etc etc?

I can change the PasswordChar property to an asterisk no problem and even copying and pasting symbols inserted into Word seemed to work - just couldn't find a symbol that looked like a bullet point!

Can this actually be achieved for a standalone exe, or is it something unique to web forms? Surely copying and pasting symbols from Word isn't actually the answer?

VS 2010 C++ Dll Is Not Thread Safe?

Apr 19, 2012

I'm calling a c++ dll I made myself - and it appears to be very VERY not thread safe!

I'm referencing it like this

Public Shared Function firstIndexOfKeyword(ByVal s As String, ByVal substr As String(), ByVal substrLength As Integer, ByVal markers As Integer()) As Integer End Function

Is there a way to make this IMPORT create something more threadsafe?

VS 2010 Seems Like This Is Not Thread Safe

Feb 27, 2012

I'm dropping into this function - from several threads - to add an OBJECT to a dictionary collection

Private Delegate Function ReaderRegisterDelegate(ByRef rrFSOb As FSObject) As FSObject
Private Function ReaderRegister(ByRef rrFSOb As FSObject) As FSObject
Try[code].....

It's getting Object reference not set to an instance of an object. The FILEID key being added is F1. F2, F3 and F4 are in the dictionary. Seems like F1 arrived and the object wasn't properly setup. Or thread-slice caused me to see a partially messed with dictionary list? How can I make that a thread safe operation? I thought dropping out to the UI thread was a safe place to mess with code like this? Oddly enough I can go to the immediate window and do this

m_FSObCollection.Add("F" + rrFSOb.FileId.ToString, rrFSOb)
?m_FSObCollection.Count 4

ex.data is a dictionary list that looks like this

directcast(ex.Data , System.Collections.IDictionary).Count 0

.net - Is The Enqueue Method Thread Safe

Nov 2, 2009

Let's say that I have a module that has a Queue in it. For other entities to Enqueue, they must go through a function:

[Code]....

If I have multiple threads running and they want to call InsertIntoQueue(), is this considered thread safe? I am under the impression that there is only one copy of the instructions in memory necessary to perform the InsertIntoQueue() function... which would lead me to think that this is thread safe. However, I wonder what happens when two threads attempt to run the function at the same time? Is this thread safe, and if not, how can I make it thread safe? (and What would be the performance implications regarding speed and memory usage)

Multi-threading, Safe Variable?

I have apps with multiple threads. I never have two threads that write to the same variable, but I do have situations where one thread writes to a variable and another reads from it.Is this safe, thread wise? (talking from an execution standpoint) The practice, seems to work fine, but I don't know what would happen if in the split second if one core was reading the variable, and the other was trying to write to it. Do I need to set up some form of lock out here?

Safe To Assume An Integer Will Always Be 32 Bits?

Jul 1, 2011

Is it safe to assume an int will always be 32 bits in C#? The linked question asks whether it is "safe to assume that an int will always be 32 bits in C#". The accepted answer states that "the C# specification rigidly defines that int is an alias for System.Int32 with exactly 32 bits".

My question is this: does this hold true for VB.Net's Integer? Is it safe to assume that Integer will always be an alias for int32?

Safe Way To Check That A File Isn't Still Uploading?

Mar 15, 2011

Is it safe to use something like this to ensure that a directory isn't currently being written to? [code]I'm processing images which can be up to 10MB so my main concern is that I'm not sure whether the LastWriteTime property (which presumably references the filesystem 'last modified' meta data) is updated when the first, last or every byte of a file is written to disk.Files will generally be uploaded via IIS7 FTP to an NTFS Filesystem on a Windows 2008 server. If it's filesystem-dependant though it would be good to also know which filsystems update when. I'd hoped that this could be used to simplify the programme by ensuring that the whole directory was processed at once. In the end I decided to rethink that since the workarounds are messier and less reliable than the one I was trying to avoid!
