I'm trying to execute some javascript code on my UpdatePanel's OnLoad event like so:
<asp:UpdatePanel ID="updDropDowns" runat="server" OnLoad="javascript:ResetButtons();">
But I keep getting "'javascript' is not a member of ASP.reasons_aspx".
I tried doing
Me.updDropDowns.Attributes.Add("OnLoad", "javascript:ResetButtons();")
But I can't reference the 'Attributes' property of an UpdatePanel in the VB code-behind.

View 4 RepliesSo I have an .aspx page loading up and populating drop downs based on a lookup table in the database. What we want is for the user to be able to configure which of these values comes defaulted by specifying that value in a drop down somewhere else in the app. Now, it's easy to default the "first" value, or something like that, but we want this to act differently. Is there a JavaScript function that can run immediately after onLoad (so the drop downs are populated already), that can go through the drop down and make one of those default so it looks like the page is loading with that set as default and people don't realize the workaround? (weird masking, etc.)
Here is an example of how we add the dropdown control to the page:

I am using an asp.net update panel to refresh the content on a page when a menu item is selected.
Within the content that is updated are images which have a javascript reflection function which is triggered with the following line of code:
window.onload = function () { addReflections(); }
This runs fine when the page is first loaded but not when a menu item is selected and the update panel is run.
On previous projects using jquery code I have replaced document.ready with function pageLoad but there is no document.ready on this page.
I am have been trying to teach myself ASP.NET and Javascript for a project and have been stuck on one problem for literally dozens of hours now. I found a really nice javascript drag-and-drop list online, copied the source offered and split the css into a .css file, the javascript into a .js file and the HTML and reference into my asp.net page. It worked perfectly. Next, I replaced the javascript list with a static HTML list populated with the same data, wrapped it in an UpdatePanel and set up an "edit order" button to swap the static list's HTML for the javascript list's HTML when the button is pressed.

I'm having an interesting issue that I can't reproduce on a different project, but can consistently on this one. I have no clue what might be causing it, but am hoping that someone may have seen it before.
I have a main form, from which I run a series of checks. On this form, I have a listview control. Because of some issues with the refreshing of this listview control, I had to create my own messagebox. It's just a form that displays some text ( it also happens to look nicer than MsgBox; in my opinion, anyways ). It's been working great for months, until recently.
My problem is that on my main form's load event, I run this check, which returns an error within a try/catch block. I then call my custom messagebox with a message. It in turns calls it's ShowDialog() function.
In any other situation ( after the main form has been loaded ), I have no problems. The messagebox goes on the screen and behaves appropriately ( ie: waits for my input and acts as a modal dialog ( stops execution of my main form's thread ) ). However, on this onload event, my messagebox comes up and goes away almost immediately afterwards.
I've traced it all the way to the showdialog() call. For no explicable reason, it appears to skip right over this call, without me doing anything on the form.

I am trying to trying to setup an updatepanel to update every X seconds, the problem is I don't want the control to actually refresh unless there is new data. So I currently have a child updatepanel in a parent UpdatePanel, the child updatepanel gets refreshed by a timer. But I can't seem to find a way to trigger the parent panel to update. Again, only when certain conditions(data changed) are met.

I have a asp:textbox inside an AJAX updatepanel. My goal is to be able to update other controls, such as a asp:listbox that is inside the same updatepanel, while I type in the asp:textbox. I can easily do this using javascript. However, I am under a restriction, that is, I cannot use javascript.
View 1 RepliesUltimately, what I want to accomplish is an AJAX-based messaging system. I already have a database table for messages, and an ASPX to add new messages (and declare old messages no longer relevant).
The current messaging system simply polls the server every 15 seconds, and re-pulls the current message set.
What I am looking to do is: On $(document).ready(), register an ajax callback function that listens for a server-side event (e.g., MessagesUpdated) On table insert/update, fire MessagesUpdated server-side.
This way, whenever the table is updated (or new records added), any clients listening know that new data is available and can re-poll the server then.
Ideally, I'd also like to make the new data available as an event argument (to minimize re-polling the db).
I can find references to something like this in other languages, but I cannot find any actual code examples to get me started.
Assuming this is possible to do via .Net, can anyone help get me started on this?
I'm using the 2.0 Framework. Also while I added a VB.Net tag, I can read C# reasonably well, so please feel free to post in either language.

I have a windows application created using 2005. One of the screens keeps minimizing each time it's loading and I don't know why. when I look at the properties for the form, the window state is set to normal.
I did have the below line of code being used when the user clicked a button on this form because i wanted to minimize the form at that time; however, I've sinced remmed it out because of what's happening now.
I have a set of accordian divs (powered by the prototype library) in an asp.net page. I would like to save the state of the accordian, so when a postback event occurs, the same div is open rather than reloading the page entirely and opening the default div.
My plan was to set a page control value with the ID of the open div using the div's toggler click event function, and then fire a click event after postback calling that same div (using the value of the control holding the div ID) as the target. I'm not sure how to fire a javascript click event from vb.net however, and this sure seems like a lame workaround.

Now if I click the button it should open the iframe and display the message which I am able to do.Now the problem is how do I call the button1_Click event which is in the codebehind at the same time. I have used OnClick and OnClientClick event as shown below but it's not working and I'm not getting any errors.

I have a flash video player embedded in a page which has javascript calls for it's controls, specifically calling playStarted() when the play button is pressed. I want to capture this event asynchronously to record when people are actually playing the video versus visiting the page, but I'm not really sure how to do this.
I was thinking the "hack" of a way would be to create a javascript function called playStarted() that would post the video ID to a separate ASP.NET page that would then record it to SQL (where I store my data on page visits and where I want to store my data on video plays.)
But ideally there is a better way to do this where I can register the javascript to the script manager so it can trigger a public sub asynchronously when it's called

I have some javascript that should log a user out after a certain period of inactive time.I have an event handler in the code behind that handles the normal LoggingOut event of the LoginStatus object, but I can't figure out how to call it from my javascript.
I know you can use __doPostBack to call an event handler that handles the Click event of a link or button, but it doesn't seem to work for my LoginStatus object - I'm thinking it might be because it has no Click event (here's the doc) - it's not really a normal link/button.
The only other way I can think of to handle this is to create an actual logout button/link, write another event handler that does the same thing as my LoginStatus event handler, and call this new one using __doPostBack.Is there any way I can call the LoggingOut event handler from my javascript?
