Javascript - Control.focus() After SelectedIndexChanged?
Mar 7, 2011
I need to focus on a textbox after an item has been selected from a dropdownlist.
I've tried control.focus() and setfocus().
The last thing I've tried was Set_Focus(dtbEffectiveDate.ClientID) inside the SelectedIndexChanged method with the folowing method.

For some reason none of my setfocus() events were working on the server side of my web ap, so I created a javascript function setfocus that is set to trigger on the onload event of the body tag.
<body onload="SetFocus()">
The user will click a radio button which enables the drop down. they select from the drop down which enables the textbox. When they scan a barcode into the textbox it will automatically tab out of the field, therefore triggering the onchange event to call some server side code which, if a successful SQL insert is completed, will insert a new row to the gridview, and it should set focus automatically back to the textbox via javascript. Once that gridview object has more than a header and a row of data, I disable the drop down and radio button list, so if you look at the javascript below, i can't use those as criteria in my if statement anymore.
Javascript:
var MatAllRB = document.getElementById("HF_RB_MatAll").value;
var MatAllCL = document.getElementById("DD_SelectCL_All").value;
var MatAll = document.getElementById("Txt_MatBC_All");
[code]....
When I view the source the textbox looks like this:
<input name="Txt_MatBC_All" type="text" onchange="javascript:setTimeout('__doPostBack('Txt_MatBC_All','')', 0)" onkeypress="if (WebForm_TextBoxKeyHandler(event) == false) return false;" id="Txt_MatBC_All" class="Form" />

Is there a more efficient/easier way changing the backcolor of a control when it has focus and lost focus? Let's say I've got 10 text boxes. Right now I would have 20 different events...10 for Enter event and 10 for Leave event. Of course, entering would change the back color to "green" and leaving would change it back to "white".

I have a textbox on a form that when it loses focus it updates other text boxes on the form. But before it updates the other textboxes I check the input value in the textbox lostfocus event if it is undesired I return focus to the the textbox and alert the the user with a msgbox. However where my problem is, is that when the cancel button is clicked I don't care what the input in the textbox is because the changes are being canceled but if the value is undesired the it keeps returning focus to the textbox instead of canceling the changes. Is there a way to see what control was clicked on before or in the lost focus event? Can't seem to figure it out tried enter and leave events but no luck!
So for example something like this...
Code:
Private Sub TextBox1_LostFocus(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles TextBox1.LostFocus
If Control that was clicked <> btnCancel then
[Code].....

I have a few reasons that I need this to happen, but suffice it to say that when I use the event handler for the RadioButtonList the sender object returns as just the RadioButtonList, and I need more information from the GridView because that's how I can uniquely identify which record my RadioButtonList is tied to.I added an "OnSelectedIndexChanged" property to my GridView but it doesn't fire/handle when I want it to. I'm assuming this has something to do with the way the GridView is designed to work. I also thought about using a hidden field, but I can't add it to the RadioButtonList so it won't help unless it's global. The problem with it being global is that I can't set the value uniquely to the record that has it's RadioButtonList being altered.

I am using VS2008, vb.net, Windows forms project.I have a combo box control on a tab control.The selected value of the combo box is bound to a binding source.The data source of the binding source is a typed dataset.I set the datasource of the binding source when a record is chosen in a data grid control.Since the combo box is bound to the binding source, this should set the selected value of the combo box, and fire the initial SelectedIndexChanged event.Therefore, I remove the SelectedIndexChanged event handler for the combo box before I set the datasource of the binding source, and add the handler again after the datasource is set.

I have read this many times. Focus is a low-level method intended primarily for custom control authors. Instead, application programmers should use the Select method or the ActiveControl property for child controls, or the Activate method for forms. What exactly is the difference? how can i call a VB function - deleteevent() in usercontrol.ascx.vb from a javascript function in clickhandler(e) in usercontrol.ascx. The call should cause a postback because I need the usercontrol to display the changes.I am currently trying to do it by using a linkbutton with style display:none, and calling its click event from the javascript function. i have a window form which has text boxs, buttons and radio buttons.when the form is loaded i want to put the cursor focus to TextboxA. But what i got is it didn't go to textboxA although I call TextboxA.Focus() at Form_Load event.In my Form_Load event() i have:
1) assign a value to a global variable.
2) hide a panel
3) set this TextBoxA.focus.
What i found is if i didn't checked the radio control to True in Form design time, the focus is go to that place, textbox.If i set the radio checked = True in form design time, focus is go to this radio button although i set TextBoxA.focus in form load line end.In my radio_checkedchanged() event, I have:
1) clear all textbox and set the focus to textbox. ( i even tried remove the set textbox focus line in this radio event but it didn't work)
But i must at least set this rdo button checked = true to carry on.if i set true, focus get lost.My program is a simple user registration form. Here is the
vb.net
Private Sub rdoNew_CheckedChanged(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles rdoNew.CheckedChanged
If rdoNew.Checked Then

I have a form with 3 controls that have TabIndex values set:Combo box (cboPostpone) - TabIndex = 0 Postpone Button - TabIndex = 1 Install Now button - TabIndex = 2
The code below is part of the Timer1.Tick event The code below seems to change the focus but then when trying to tab through the controls, it stays on the combo box.
[Code]...
Lastly, I removed cboPostpone.Focus() command from the Timer1.Tick event and move it to the Postpone button Click event. I run the focus command right after the me.hide command. I delayed it the first time and it came back with the Postpone button in focus again instead of the combo box.

I am developing an Outlook 2007 VSTO application that works with a commercial website.Almost all of the app's interactions with the website are done using HttpRequest objects.One user scenario does require the app to open a browser to a specific page on the site, and that page requires a Post string to provide the results of a form submit.I am using the version of the WebBrowser control that ships with VS 2008, and specifically VB.Net.My code successfully goes to the first page, after which it navigates to the actual target page (once the first page is loaded).That works, too, but if I click on the desired link on the target page, a JavaScript error pops up, stating "'j.parentNode' is not an object", with a Code of 0.I do not have access t the commerical site's internals. The page and links in question, when accessed via IE or Firefox, work correctly without the JavaScript error. The page containing the link is using Flex.Is this a problem with the nWebBrowser control?
