Is it possible to shut down windows say if the time is around 6:00 pm using the VB.net code. has any one done that. I have the code to kill my program when it is after say 6:00 pm, I would like to shut down windows along with it. I can post the code for killing my program (actually I got it from here) if anyone wants it.

Button1 Gets Process which is notepad, When Button1 is clicked in the ListBox1 it shows the Main titled of the windows, Example Notepad is running and his title is Untitled - Notepad in Listbox1 will show the title, And the Button2 Should kill the process of the selected item in the ListBox1, Like i Got 2 Notepad open, 1 with titled 1 and other with title 2, when i select in ListBox1 the one that says 1 and i click button2 it should kill the notepad process that have the titled 1 no all the notepads.

View 1 RepliesI work in IT in a firm that are rolling out a time management application on all PCs. In order to clock in/out a user must log into the application and click clock in/out. I want to build a very simple application that when a user goes to shut down or log out of their PC, a windows form will pop up asking them if they they want to clock out of the time management software (a reminder if they have forgotten to clock out and are heading home). On the form there will be two buttons, 'yes' and 'no'. If they click yes, the system shutdown or log off will be halted and the time management software application will open automatically. If they click no, the shutdown/logoff will proceed as normal. I just need to know what i need to do to get the system shutdown/logoff to stop until either button is pressed and to stop totally if the 'yes' button is pressed. I am able to get the Time Management software to run on a button click but just not able to halt the shutdown or logoff?

I am having an issue killing an external process with my app. I have searched and tried numerous bits of code and none seem to work for Mobile. I keep seeing GetProcessByName but that is not an option for Windows Mobile. I know the process exe but the PID changes so I cannot hard code that.

Everything works with the exception of if my program has launched the other program, my program become non-responsive. Meaning I am not able to look at that window again. Not that one really needs too, because when time is up my program closes the program it opened, then closes itself. i'm making a little app in which i need to enumerate all the windows of a specific process. i managed to do that but through enumerating all the windows in the system and then just test if it is the process i'm talking about or not by using

but this method seem to take a lot of unnecessary time. is there a wind32 function that can allow me to enumerate the windows of a specific process giving its handle.

View 9 RepliesI'm writing a windows service (MacTimeFix.exe) to fix the Windows time on a Macintosh (it's like this: i live in Moscow (GMT+03:00), and Mac OS thinks that the system time is GMT+00:00 and adds 03:00 to it< and Windows thinks that system time is the local time).I need to execute my code when my VB app is closed. (it happens with the shutdown of Windows) The form is invisible (hidden), and the user mustn't click anything except windws shutdown button. It is a service. When i write a Form1_FormClosing sub, it works only on Alt+F4 or CloseButton and doesn't work when the app is stopped from Windows Task Manager or whatever also.I need a way to execute sub when app is closed with taskkill (without /force) or a way to execute a several app on Winshutdown.

I am aware that if you wish to run a program at a specific time, the best way is to add it to the windows task scheduler. I have a forms application that accepts as input a text file and some button selections before the actual main runs.
Can this kind of program be scheduled? I realize I would have to hard code the inputs but does .net have any features to access the task scheduler?
I have an app that relies on a database. Basically, users are checking in and checking out items and the database keeps track of all that.My boss wants a notification system to email us when a item is overdue. I already have most of this figured out.I was able to create a service and have it read registry values that the app sets and then it reads the check outdate from the database. If it's overdue, an email is sent out.
But, I've only done testing for 10 seconds at a time. I'm currently using a System.Threading.Timer to run every 10 seconds. That was only a test, it won't actually be that way.Instead, I want the task to run once every day. I was thinking to just have it run every hour, but if it runs every hour, then we'll be constantly bombarded by emails when an item is overdue. And sending it every "x" hours brings it's own issues and isn't ideal.Normally, I'd run a task via the Windows Task Scheduler, but the app has to read the database. I guess I could create a separate app and launch it via the task scheduler, have it complete the tasks and then close when done.
I wonder is there a way to set a timer for a specific time interval? Lets say everyday between 23:00 and 23:10.

I have a simple WinForm that is using a Tab Control to simplify data entry. The very last page has a text box that allows the user to "set a name" for the file. I really want to simplify this and suggest how the file should be named. What I want
is for when the tab page is entered (consider that generically) that the text box is pre-populted with a name.

For example, I would like something to happen in my program at 11 PM every day (and no I dont want to use Windows Scheduled Tasks) but I cant think of a good way to do this... The only method I can think of is to just have my app check every minute to see if the current system time is 11 PM but obviously that is pretty rubbish. I considered using Windows WorkFlow but that seems very overkill just to do this one thing...
Oh and if it makes any difference, I would like the user to be able to modify these times that certain events occur.
