I am trying to load the text file to the ListBox Object. But it doesn't work.
' Initialize an instance of the StreamReader object and declare variables
Dim objReader As IO.StreamReader
Dim intCount As Integer = 0
Dim intFill As Integer
I am trying to load a listbox from a text file, I have debugged the routine and have used the "step into", I have the routine in the Form Load section, it shows the names being loaded but will not show in the listbox itself, please please give me some ideas I have been racking my brain for days on this,
i'm trying to load a sequential text file into a listbox, and for some reason it won't move onto the next line? instead i get square characters instead
It appears like:
Where the square characters are, i want it to be an extra line as opposed to just that? here's the
Dim YOUREFILE As String = "C:Documents and SettingsAdministratorMy DocumentsPROJECTFILESYOURSTUDENTSCORES.TXT" Dim objReader As New System.IO.StreamReader(YOUREFILE)
I would like to know if there is a quicker way to load a text file into a listbox/arraylist than this:
Code: Dim fileList as New ArrayList Dim fileReader As New System.IO.StreamReader("textfile.txt") Do While fileReader.Peek() <> -1
[Code].....
If I need to load several text files into different arraylists, especially if the textfiles have a lot of lines, this process is very slow. Too slow for my current app to work smoothly, actually.
So, is there any faster ways to load a text file into an arraylist? Or if there isn't, is there some quick way to easily access and change data that is on a particular line in a textbox, so that I don't have to load the text file into an arraylist?
I am trying to load a text file into a list box in order to be able to play the files see code below I have an error on this line Which states Error 1 Value of type 'String' cannot be converted to '1-dimensional array of String'.
Dim Open As New OpenFileDialog Dim myStreamReader As System.IO.StreamReader Open.Filter = "Text [*.txt*]|*.txt|All Files [*.*]|*.*"
1.In my program I have 2 textboxes. In first textbox user need to put some number.Let's say he put number 10, then in other textbox program need to write numbers from 1 - 10, like this:

i want to load a text file to my listbox. Chosen using a openfiledialog, so it wont have to be on a fixed location. However, i dont know how to do this. I know how to save a text file from a listbox, but not how to load one into it.
Next question, When loaded into the listbox, how can you select the next line?
Add the items from text file into TextBox and ListBox.[code]...
Where, ";" is the Delimiter and data is just one line only. "A" has to load in TextBox and "Cat,.....,Bird" has to load in ListBox, one line per animal.I've already read the text file and load "A" into text box. But couldn't figure out how to load rest of the data into list box.
in my program i am trying to make it so that when you press a button it opens a "choose file" popup(where the user can choose a text file) then after the user chooses it the program will automatically load each line of the textfile into a listbox. But i have been researching it and the only thing i have been able to find is a file>open thing. So how cold i make it open a "open" dialogue on the press of a button and since i haven't been able to find anything on the open dialogue i haven't looked for anything on the loading each line of it into a listbox?
How do I get my info from a .txt from my website to load into my listbox?! Like if I were to do this... Try Dim client As New Net.WebClient client.Credentials = New Net.NetworkCredential("username", "password") ListBox1.Items.Add(client.DownloadString("ftp:public_html/listboxitems.txt")) Catch ex As Exception MsgBox("Error : " + ErrorToString(), MsgBoxStyle.Critical) End Try It just adds a straight line of my multi lines that are in the .txt file...
I am working on an assignment where I need to have a product list that is loaded into a list box upon the form loading. This is generated from a txt file in the /debug folder upon loading. Now my question is how do I have the product names show up in the list box when there are 3 separate parts to each product. The product, the cost, and the quantity in inventory, and all I want to show up is the product in the listbox, where the rest show up elsewhere.
CODE:
'This procedure loads the data for the array from txt file. As well as loading the Product.txt file into the system when the program loads.
I'm working on a calculator for an online text based game, Cybernations. This game revolves around building your nation.I currently am using a class called Nation, this contains all the values for the nation such as infrastructure and land lvls. I want a way to save a nation as a file so that I can load it later and keep playing with it. I also want to be able to save multiple nations.
I'll need specifics on how to declare this in the program and where. I currently have a nation declared in my main form called ThisNation that is global. I think I can define ThisNation in the loading form as the selected file, but I'm not sure on how to do that. The actual file loading needs to be called from a button click in the loading form, then the program switches to the main form where you can actually do stuff.Where should I put the loading process, and how should I define ThisNation as the file?
I am starting to learn reading and writing to textfiles. One quick problem. My code here
'Read is the variable that will read the kp.txt file" Dim read As IO.StreamReader read = IO.File.OpenText("C:2/kp.txt"[code].....
however when it is read into the listbox those 3 words appear on one line in listbox How can i make it so that each line of the textfile is placed in each line on the listbox?
I'm creating an editable ListBox control, where the user can double-click an item to edit it. When double-clicked, I simply overlay a TextBox over the item, so the user can change the text and then commit it by pressing Enter or leaving the TextBox. The 'commit' is simply this:[code]where 'editingIndex' is the index of the item being edited, and 'textBox' is the TextBox object. If the ListBox contains strings, this works just fine. The item being edited is replaced by the textbox Text string. However, if the ListBox contains some other object (let's say a custom class), this is a problem! It still "works", in that it still sets the text of the item, but the item is no longer an instance of that custom class! It is now a String, and all other information about the item is lost. So, I really want to let the user be able to change the text representation of ANY object, without replacing the object with a string. Obviously, I cannot know how the object displays its text (well, by the ToString function of course, but I cannot know what the ToString function returns). Now, I am having a few ideas how to approach this, but none really work the way I want. I am pretty sure that I'm going to have to provide some kind of event that the user has to handle. I'm thinking something like this:
- When the item edit is committed, an event is raised - This event contains the Item being edited (as an object, the user has to cast it himself), and the new text of the item.- - The user handles this event, and assigns the new text to the correct property.
For the Person class, this could look something like this.My ListBox should raise this event, and assign the new item like this.[code]I think this should work (although I haven't tested it), but there's one problem with this approach:When the items are just strings, the user still needs to implement this event handler, while he shouldn't have to (I can simply assign the new text string to the item). So, if the user is simply using strings, he still needs to do this for every instance of my listbox:[code]So what I'm really looking for is a way so that I can implement the default behavior (for String items), and still allow the user to override this behavior if he is not using strings.I may be overlookihe obvious solution here, but I can't figure it out... Overriding is done when you inherit a class, but the user isn't going to inherit my custom listbox (well he CAN, but he shouldn't have to). He is just going to handle the event. And if he doesn't handle the event, my listbox uses the default implementation.
Before I begin I would like to mention that I am not a noob in VB, it's just I've never had to do anything this complex before. Basically what I want is to have a program that you can load a txt file in, have it copy key words, and paste it in a textbox so I can use it later on. So in this text file, there is a bunch of info, but I am only needing a certain part. Here is an example of a text file (actually a .dat file, but is easily read):
# TAG NAME = is saved to a file using the code below but when I load that same file back into a RichTextbox Control using additional code below, I get inconsistent results as I try to parse the text. Has anyone else had this problem?'Save the contents of the RichTextBox into the file.richTextBox.SaveFile(saveFile1.FileName, RichTextBoxStreamType.RichText);'Retrieve contents of File into RichTextBox control Dim logData As String logData = System.IO.File.ReadAllText(path + "\" + filenname);
I want to load a csv file (A comma delimited text file) into a datatable. I found the OdbcDataAdapter Class which looks perfect, but it says it is supported only in version 1.1 of the .NET Framework.
Is there a better way to import a csv file into a datatable? the first line has the column headers.
I am using Visual Studio 2008, using version 3.5 of the .NET framework
I've got a program which displays data in a listbox in five columns. All are separated using one or more ControlChars.Tab. I want to write these columns to a text file, however, when I do, my columns lose their alignment. I can change alignment so that it displays nicely in text file, but then it is off in list box. Is there a way to get what I see in my listbox to display the same way in a text file - maybe a different way of separating my columns (not using ControlChars.Tab)?
I'm using the SaveFileDialog to save listbox info into a text file. The files save fine, but when you go to save the file, if you hit the cancel button, it will overwrite the previous file you saved, because it's name was the same and it seems to save the previous file as the new name for your next file. Is there any way to catch if the user clicks cancel, and then exiting the sub if they did?
I've been staring at my code for a few hours, and cannot think of the next part. For my final I need to make a hangman program Pretty much I have a button to load a .txt, a label, a multiline textbox(which will be hidden later), and a normal textbox. I need the program to load the txt file, and randomly select a word. Then have the program put a " - " for every letter in that word The program loads the txt file,to the multiline textbox, but I don't know what to put next. EDIT:After looking at my book i noticed it shows how to make a hangman program, but without loading a text file. So, all I need is the code that will make it select a word randomly from the list, and i think I can do the rest..
I have a made a simple program with multiple forms and multi text boxes in each form where the user inputs text into textboxes. I would like to be able to save the data into a file and then be able to load the text from that same saved file.
Is there a code template that would allow me to do this?
I want to program a multi-media cd-rom. Need to be able to load a text file into a VB formand have user move through pages with 'forward' and 'backward' buttons.
