I know the answer to this is out there somewhere, but my Google isn't being much help on this one. I am trying to make my combobox run an event when the enter key is pressed. Here is my code.

I'm designing a Windows Forms Application, and there is a dialog that should NOT exit when the enter key is pressed, instead it has to validate data first, in case enter was pressed after changing the text of a ComboBox. I've tried by telling it what to do on KeyPress event of the ComboBox if e is the Enter key:

But no success so far. When the Enter key is pressed, even with the ComboBox on focus, the whole dialog is closed, returning to the previous form. The validation is NOT done at all, and it has to be done before exiting. In fact, I don't even want to exit on the form's enter KeyPress, the only purpose of the enter key on the whole dialog is to validate the ComboBox (but only when in focus, for the sake of an intuitive UI). I've also tried appending the validation to the KeyPress event of the whole dialog's form, if the key is Enter. NO SUCCESS! It's like my code wasn't there at all.
The image below shows a part of my Login form . The program works fine and I am able to login when I press the Enter Button. But I want to Login when I press My Enter Button (Return Button) on my Keyboard. How can I do this ?

View 6 RepliesI have a combobox on an Excel worksheet that I can tab into, then pick my data (located on another worksheet) after activating the "arrow". But the tab or enter key does not allow me to navigate away from the cell after it is populated. The only action that allows the user to move to another cell is by mouse/click to another cell. I am trying to make navigation through though worksheet as user friendly as possible.I can't seem to find any sample code that will take the focus away from that cell using Tab or Enter.
I have no problem with ListBoxes created using the Data Validation method but I have to create a ComboBox control on the active worksheet in order to return the data chosen (in this case a code that corresponds to a description). If this was a Form I wouldn't have any problem as the properties would allow me to set that up, but this is essentially a spreadsheet I've inherited and the current users do not want to go to a Data Entry Form.

How Do I Make Button.click Event Perform both the enter and period(del) keys on the numeric keypad? [Code] Case Keys.Enter and Case Keys.Separator do not work. Nor does anything like Keys.OEMPeriod for the period(del) key. I've also tried calling the enter key in a KeyPress event etc. But to no avail. Any ideas? I'm trying to mimic Windows calc.exe for a school project and thought I'd try throwing in a few extras such as numeric keypad functionality.

I have alot of experience in working in VBA for excel, but not so much experience in creating my own structures so it's all still a bit foggy. I'm trying to capture the event for when the F1 key is pressed, not just when the form is active, but anytime the program is running. I am using the suggest method of auto complete that provides the user with a list of choices filteres by what they have type. The problem I am having is that when the user makes a selection (via the mouse) VS places the selected text into the textbox and also simulates the enter key being pressed on the textbox.In my program the enter keyup event is used to send the text entered in the text box to the a COM port. In order for this to work as desired the user must be able to select an auto-complete option and then add to it so that they can change settings.Is it possible to stop it from triggering that event or to intercept it? I am unsure if it is possible or how to determine the origin of a keypress.

The auto-complete functionality was accomplished through the properties of the control, the only code for that was to generate the auto-complete list.
On my DataGridView one of the columns is set to a ComboBox. When I make a selection from this ComboBox the CellValue change Event is not triggered. What event is triggered when I do the selection?

View 3 RepliesI am running VS 2008 and building my app on a Windows 7 box. The main form/window has a KeyDown event handler as follows in it:

When I build it and run it within VS it seems to run fine. The messagebox appears with the state of the control and shift keys along with the key code of the key I pressed. However, if I take the executable and run it on an XP box (both using .Net Runtime 3.5) as soon as the main form opens, the messagebox appears. Basically the "KeyDown" event seems to be firing without any keys being pressed. The messagebox comes back with: "control = False, shift = False, e.Keycode = None".
How is this possible? How can the keyDown event be fired when no keys have been pressed (as is confirmed by the output contained in the messagebox?) how I can diagnose this on the XP box since it does not have Visual Studio on it?Update I tried creating a brand new project where there is only "form1" and the only code behind this is the keyDown event handler. It just opens a blank window and pops up the message box if a key is pressed. It worked as expected on the Win 7 box but when I moved the executable to the XP box, it immediately popped open the messagebox without pressing a key.
I have a tabcontrol with 3 tabs. I can't see where any event is raised when I click the small tab area (where the name of the tabpage is). I see where an event is raised when I click on the tabpage itself. What is the event for the small tab area? I am getting by with a mousemove event over the currently selected tabpage.
