View 4 RepliesI have some operations of Picture Boxes etc being performed. After the user finishes with the formatting, I want to give the user an option to print the work. But its the work is not done on the Rich Text Box but on picture boxes. I am not even sure, how many of the picture boxes would be there after the user finishes the job, since I have provided option for dynamically creating picture boxes as well.
View 3 RepliesI have a Form that has several buttons on it, and each one plays a certain mp3 file. Thing is I want to make an option for making a playlist instead of playing the sounds right away when you press the button, adding them to a ListBox. So the code would look something like this on Button1_Click

I am making a application that you enter 3 number one for length, width, and height of a rectangle. It needs to display a picture showing all three.i am using windows form application to do this wil three text boxes to enter the numbers.

I am trying to make a program that can open pictures in its own PictureBox. I have the form already made, and I had it working with a combobox with the list of all the different pictures, a button to load the picture depending on the selected item in the
combobox (MANY MANY if statements), and i also added a previous and next image pair of buttons (200% more if statements). I was happy with it, except whenever I added a new picture I had to add many lines of code... So i figured i can use this openfiledialog
and open them that way.
what i have so far is when i press "btnLoad" it opens the "ofdPictures" {openfiledialog}
what i need it to do is when i select my picture and press "open", it open the image in the picture box "picPictures", which is in my form.from what i understand with playing around with openfiledialog in VB is that the command this->ofdPictures->FileName
makes the selected file a string... but i think i have to make it = a string variable...
now, i think i fixed that by adding to "private: System::Void ofdPictures_FileOk"

Im setting the standard program to .jpg files to my program. So when it starts it shows the picture in a picturebox ofcourse.
My problems:I want the pictures standard size to be the size of the picturebox.Making the picture open in the picturebox?
Is there a way of making a Picture Box have a transparency so that any objects (e.g buttons) that are layered underneath the picture box will be shown through?
Or if there is any other way of getting the mouse coordinates only on the form. So when the mouse cursor is placed at 20,20 on the form it will give back the coordinates 20,20 no matter where the form is placed on the screen

View 6 RepliesI've been trying to make a grid to test some AI stuff I'm working on. I managed to do it using rectangles and graphics.rectangle (pens.black, rect) by using a vid on youtube, but it made the application virtually useless because of all the memory it was using. I don't need it to be an actual grid, but I do need it to have values as if it was a grid, so that I can issue commands (x,y coords). (I have been searching the forums for over an hour, but all examples are either useless or cant be converted correctly).

I'm making an application where a user draws a shape on a picture box( this will be saved on a bitmap image), then another user has to draw on that shape (=follow it ) . if the 2nd user goes too far from the line then an error message will appear.
for example( in case i couldn't clarify this well!)the 1st user draws a a vertical line, the 2nd user has to follow it, if-while drawing on it- he gets too far horizontally, there would be the error.
I'm currently thinking of comparing every point by the 2nd user to its equivalent in an array containing the points by the first user.
We bought a DIY security camera, the camera is making automatically mpegs if a movement is recognized. A picture can be made with a delivered program. We have the idea to make a program with the delivered dll files to make automatically pictures.

I really like the coding speed that vb.net provides, but I don't like the possibility to forget to declare variable types, return types of functions, etc. and that is why in each class I use[code]..
Is there a way to define those two options on the project/solution level?
the combo box style 1 has both the drop down option but also a manual entry option. I need to know how to code it so that when you manually enter data, it takes that data and places it in a text message "The shipping charges for "data" is $15" displaying in a text box. Shouldn't be hard but have developed a mind block.

1. I have read that keeping Option strict on and Option infer off is good practice and will insure your code is tight and properly written. I would like input regarding this, pro's and con's from those who are in the know.
2. Having said that, I have set Option strict on and Option infer off in an existing program I wrote (that was working perfectly mind you) with them off and on respectively. I went through and cleaned up all the errors on the 'need AS' and casting of variables, but one is leaving me a bit put out.[code]
I have also read where using My.Computer.System.Directory.GetFiles() instead of System.IO.Directory.GetFiles() is probably not a good thing, but when I change to this I get no error, but also no dataI am thinking I should stay with the strict on and infer off but am really slogging through getting this code correct.Running Win7 on Dual Quad Core XEON Intel Extreme with 8Gb RAM.
I am writing a text editor program and I have written the new, open, save as, exit menu items but I am struggling with writing the save option. Now I have created the menu itself (well vb did, I just used insert standard items) but how do I code up the save menu option so that it updates the current document or if the documnt has not yet been saved bring up the save file dialog. Here is the code I have so far
Public Class Main
Private Sub NewToolStripButton_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles NewToolStripButton.Click, NewToolStripMenuItem.Click[code]....
I know I have some finishing touches such as messages and error handling and stuff but at the moment I want to get all the basics working,I think the save menu option is all I am struggling with at the moment.
Using VS2008, targetting framework 3.5, trying to update some VB4 code. Yes, VB4.I have a bunch of legacy code I'm trying to update, and I had the idea of trying to work through it by executing the old code, working out what was causing each error as I came to it, solving the problem, and then moving on.In order to do this, I have sinned and set Option Strict Off, Option Explicit Off and Option Infer On.Yes, I'm going to hell for this.Problem is, I'm still getthing errors that various things haven't been declared. All of these the items showing errors are in the form: itemName(obj)Is my problem that the compiler thinks that these are method calls for methods which haven't been declared?PS: For anyone wanting to tell me not to use these settings, I already know
View 2 RepliesI'm a huge music person (got my own lil record thing going) but I'm wanting to design a program that would make music in my way. I have a decent amount of background knowlege of Visual Basic and Java I'm just wondering how could I execute this whole project. The Project is making a MPC Sampler. MPC is a drum machine; a machine with buttons that once you press it that it will play a sound from a drum (ex: snare, kick, tom, ect.) . So I would want to make some pads on my program that each have their own sound. Total of 16 pads. Which the design wouldn't be hard to make nor would the functionality of it having the play back sound (in my opinoin it wouldn't be hard atleast). But the thing is I wanna map out these pads to number keys on the number pad or keyboard. I'm not so sure how to do that. But that's all the easy stuff...
Also finding information is making a sound directory. What I mean by this is that I want to make a User Interface that will open up a file directory of sounds and the user can select what "kick" or "snare" sound he may want for the kick or snare pad. I don't know how to do that or even know what to search; neverless I don't know if this whole project idea is a good idea for Visual Basic or another programing language.
Also LATER ON I am wanting to add a record and export function that alows users to..well...record and export their beat or instrumental ha. That doesn't seem too too complex (mainly due to the fact that all it needs to do is record the users key strokes and then show them and play the sounds, but obviously it would get more complex than that.)
Here is an image of one of many MPCs but one with a directory - [URL]
I have to take over a project written in vb.net, which contains more than 400k lines of code written in option strict off mode. I want to build it under option strict on first before I do anything else -- which maybe converting it into C#. I found there's thousands of lines of code raises compilation error, mostly are about implicit type casts. Is there any tool would help to make it compile under option strict on mode if I don't want to correct every single line manually? Because it's really painful to add CStr/CInt invocation into every line of Code myself.
