Keep Program And Language Translations Strictly In One Binary File?

Apr 30, 2010

I read about localization in vb.net only to find that if I want to translate strings I will have to have multiple files for my compiled application (resources.dll for each language).

I want to keep my program and language translations strictly in one binary file. There is no problem with translating interface, but translating strings is a royal pain as I can't find any easy to understand articles.

I think of simply adding select case for current language and displaying text in current language, but I can't get it right.

Which Database Technology To Use Making A Dictionary

Mar 3, 2011

I am creating a dictionary software in Visual studio 2010 (vb). I've already done one in which i used SQL server express 2008 to hold the data. But users find it very annoying to download SQL server (of 58 MB) before installing the software.I am definitely not using SQL this time. But I don't know which database technology does not need a prerequisite software. I guess ADO.NET will not be favorable too. So can anybody suggest me which one to select this time, so that the users can use my software having just the .NET framework 4.0 and nothing else?

Making A Dictionary In .Net - Create "apps" For Wikipedia, Wiktion?

Jun 13, 2011

Basically, what I've done is given the user four tabs to choose from. The main one is the dictionary which I've compiled, and the other three tabs link to online encyclopedias and dictionaries. However, what I want to do is make an app for each of these, because of the fact that the screen space I am giving the user is limited (499px x 254px), and I also believe that it will look more professional.

What I'm thinking of doing is putting the logo towards the top, and then:For Wikipedia, putting the title and picture at the top and breaking the article into show/hide sections like the mobile version
For Wiktionary, putting the title at the top, and breaking it down into show/hide sections when applicable
For Dictionary.com. putting the title at the top and showing the definitions (with linked pronunciations) underneath

Of course, I'll need it to automatically redirect itself to the webpage I need it to go to, because I don't want to type another 300,000 lines of code just to go to a website.

Use Linq ToDictionary To Return A Dictionary With Multiple Values In The Dictionary Items?

Jan 25, 2010

I want to group items from a linq query under a header, so that for each header I have a list of objects that match the header title. I assumed the solution would be to use ToDictionary to convert the objects, but this allows only one object per "group" (or dictionary key). I assumed I could create the dictionary of type (String, List Of()), but I can't figure out how to write it. As an example I have written a simplified version below.

Flatten A Dictionary Of Dictionaries And Sum The Values Of The Inner Dictionary With LINQ?

Apr 16, 2012

I have the following object:

countDictionary As Dictionary(of Category, Dictionary(of Date, Integer))

The Class has a Enumeration Property. For the purposes of demonstration, I'll call it MasterCategory.I have been trying to get out an object that looks like the following:

groupedCountDictionary As Dictionary(of MasterCategory, Dictionary(of Date, Integer)

The best result I could get was:

Lookup(of MasterCategory, Dictionary(of Date, Integer))

From:

countDictionary.ToLookup(Function(o) o.Key.MasterCategory, Function(o) o.Value)

Which results in a IEnumerable (Of Dictionary(of Date, Integer)) for each MasterCategory value. However, I need that IEnumerable of Dictionary flattened to one dictionary with all the integers summed (total counts) for each date. I then tried to use various selects and group bys (from numerous stackoverflow posts) to "flatten" it, but my efforts have fallen short.

Current Code

[Category Class]
- MasterCategory As Enum
- Name As String etc

Localization - Menu Strip To Select An Other Language - Doesn't Change My Menustip Text To My Selected Language

Mar 29, 2010

In my winform app in VB.NET I want to use the localization option. But i have a few questions/problems. I'm using a menu strip to select an other language. But it seems that is doesn't change my menustip text to my selected language. It does change my labels, buttons, and textboxes but menu strips don't seem to change when I choose another language. Also is it possible to get those resx files such as MyForm.fr-FR.resx compiled so it isn't an external file outside my app? Or to get those files in an Language folder at the same location of my app, so i don't have all those fr-FR & nl-Nl folders in the same location as my program?

I am currently trying to pass MyDictionary into a function, filter it into a new instance of MyDictionary and pass this new instance into another method. IDE :: When Localizing A Form / Select Language In Form Properties But IDE Automatically Selects Different Language

Nov 29, 2010

I have multilingual application that was done in VB2005.We recently had a request to translate the application to Arabic (Egypt), so I have been happily running through all of the forms and changing the layout for Right to Left format.I have 2 forms that are problematic though. On one form, whenever I select Arabic (Egypt), it will automatically switch the selection to Arabic (Saudi Arabia) and try to add an ar-SA resx file.On the other problematic form, if I choose Arabic (Egypt), the IDE will automatically select Chinese (People's Republic of China), then copy the contents of my ar-EG resx file into the zh-CN file, overwriting all of our Chinese translations and layout changes with the Arabic ones.

Designing Software - Making A MPC Sampler - Drum Machine - Making A Sound Directory ?

May 16, 2012

I'm a huge music person (got my own lil record thing going) but I'm wanting to design a program that would make music in my way. I have a decent amount of background knowlege of Visual Basic and Java I'm just wondering how could I execute this whole project. The Project is making a MPC Sampler. MPC is a drum machine; a machine with buttons that once you press it that it will play a sound from a drum (ex: snare, kick, tom, ect.) . So I would want to make some pads on my program that each have their own sound. Total of 16 pads. Which the design wouldn't be hard to make nor would the functionality of it having the play back sound (in my opinoin it wouldn't be hard atleast). But the thing is I wanna map out these pads to number keys on the number pad or keyboard. I'm not so sure how to do that. But that's all the easy stuff...

Also finding information is making a sound directory. What I mean by this is that I want to make a User Interface that will open up a file directory of sounds and the user can select what "kick" or "snare" sound he may want for the kick or snare pad. I don't know how to do that or even know what to search; neverless I don't know if this whole project idea is a good idea for Visual Basic or another programing language.

Also LATER ON I am wanting to add a record and export function that alows users to..well...record and export their beat or instrumental ha. That doesn't seem too too complex (mainly due to the fact that all it needs to do is record the users key strokes and then show them and play the sounds, but obviously it would get more complex than that.)

Here is an image of one of many MPCs but one with a directory - [URL]

Dictionary Keeps Updating Even When I Don't Want It To?

Mar 15, 2010

I have a dictionary of key=string and value=datatable. I use a key to retrieve a datatable and assign that datatable to a new variable. Then I make some updates to the variable. However, I find that the dictionary itself is being updated even though I'm only updating the variable. This causes significant issues when I try to reference the dictionary later. How can I set up my dictionary so that it won't update when I use a value?

dim dt1 as datatable

dt1=dictionary(key)

For row=0 to dt1.rows.count
dt1.Rows(row)(4)=dt1.rows(row)(4)/2
Next row

'at this point, when I look up dictionary(key), the value I get shows all of the original values divided by 2.

If it helps, I only needs words with less than 7 letters in them, and more than 2 letters in them. Also, I don't need the definitions of the words. I only need the words themselves in the arary. Do I need to manually input all the words into an array or is there already a dictionary control or something that I could use?
