Which Database Technology To Use Making A Dictionary
Mar 3, 2011
I am creating a dictionary software in Visual studio 2010 (vb). I've already done one in which i used SQL server express 2008 to hold the data. But users find it very annoying to download SQL server (of 58 MB) before installing the software.I am definitely not using SQL this time. But I don't know which database technology does not need a prerequisite software. I guess ADO.NET will not be favorable too. So can anybody suggest me which one to select this time, so that the users can use my software having just the .NET framework 4.0 and nothing else?
I am planning on making a dictionary with translations from one language to another. I've already tried using the Google API translator but what i want to do for now is to translate the text inputted by the user without any need for internet connections.
I have been making an rpg that i have been programing to be event driven, so the last step at this point is the items... i tryed using dictionary to store all the items but this kinda failed(Im not shure if dictionary is good idea for something like this any way). well i know how to hard code the items but i dont want to do this(Event Drivien is better). So any ideas on how i could store the items?
Basically, what I've done is given the user four tabs to choose from. The main one is the dictionary which I've compiled, and the other three tabs link to online encyclopedias and dictionaries. However, what I want to do is make an app for each of these, because of the fact that the screen space I am giving the user is limited (499px x 254px), and I also believe that it will look more professional.
What I'm thinking of doing is putting the logo towards the top, and then:For Wikipedia, putting the title and picture at the top and breaking the article into show/hide sections like the mobile version For Wiktionary, putting the title at the top, and breaking it down into show/hide sections when applicable For Dictionary.com. putting the title at the top and showing the definitions (with linked pronunciations) underneath
Of course, I'll need it to automatically redirect itself to the webpage I need it to go to, because I don't want to type another 300,000 lines of code just to go to a website.
I want to group items from a linq query under a header, so that for each header I have a list of objects that match the header title. I assumed the solution would be to use ToDictionary to convert the objects, but this allows only one object per "group" (or dictionary key). I assumed I could create the dictionary of type (String, List Of()), but I can't figure out how to write it. As an example I have written a simplified version below.
The current episode (Bedford house, episode 2 of 16) of This Old House has a segment on Z corporation's 3D printer. This printer prints 3D working models complete with moving parts. I found it fascinating.
You can view the episode on the PBS site or local PBS channel.
I have worked on .NET 2.0 technologies and now that I want start learning newer technologies, I am currently very confused on how to proceed.
New technologies I am considering consist of AJAX, Workflow, WCF and WPF
Here is my dilemma: 1. Where should I start first? 2. Which technology would allow me quicker understanding? 3. Is there any specific sequence to this learning?
I understand the questions might be stupid; however, this would help me concentrate on one instead of all over the place and archiving nothing.
I have created a class with a function in it. I have a collection of data I want to pass back. I tried an arraylist first. Now I am trying to use a dictionary. My problem is that it creates the dictionary ok, but I am only get the last row of data from my
Function GetWeldAuditInfo(ByVal ResourceId As String, ByVal VendorId
countDictionary As Dictionary(of Category, Dictionary(of Date, Integer))
The Class has a Enumeration Property. For the purposes of demonstration, I'll call it MasterCategory.I have been trying to get out an object that looks like the following:
groupedCountDictionary As Dictionary(of MasterCategory, Dictionary(of Date, Integer)
Which results in a IEnumerable (Of Dictionary(of Date, Integer)) for each MasterCategory value. However, I need that IEnumerable of Dictionary flattened to one dictionary with all the integers summed (total counts) for each date. I then tried to use various selects and group bys (from numerous stackoverflow posts) to "flatten" it, but my efforts have fallen short.
Current Code
[Category Class] - MasterCategory As Enum - Name As String etc
I am an aid in a technology classroom at a middle school. They have 12 computers that must be logged into everyday. The teacher has given me the password to log in the computers for the students, because he doesn't want them to know it. The teacher's computer is linked to the other 12. I was wondering if it is possible to develop a program that has a list of the 12 computers with 2 fields, one for user name and password. These for each computer. You would enter the username and password and it would log in the computer. This would be done from the teacher's computer. It would make it a lot easier than having to go around and log in those computers. [URL]..
I have a question about which technology is more efficient and easy to use oracle forms or .net . The database we use is oracle now we have to develope a new project insurance software (application) . I just want your opinion if .net would be more better to use for these kind of projects and if it has the same performance with oracle database as the oracle forms?
We are using ClickOnce Technology to deploy our applications using In Place Hosting Manager.I install Ver 1.0.0.0 for an application XYZ. More upgrades happen and I install till Ver 1.0.0.7. At this point the minimum required version is set to Ver 1.0.0.5. But,now I want to move back to Ver 1.0.0.3.Will In Place Hosting Manager install Ver 1.0.0.3 though we don't change the minimum required version? My motive is to only change the location of deployment manifest and keep on jumping across versions(Up and Down).
I have created a Dictionary class (MyDictionary for the example). I am currently trying to pass MyDictionary into a function, filter it into a new instance of MyDictionary and pass this new instance into another method. When I am attempting to create the second instance from the filtered first instance of MyDictionary via Lambda Expressions and the ToDictionary Method, I am getting the following error:
Unable to cast object of type 'System.Collections.Generic.Dictionary`2[System.Int32,System.String]' to type 'MyDictionary'. I have simplified the example and recreated it in LINQPad and am getting the same error.
I use VS2005 and I have just started working with the dictionary in particular the Dictionary.ContainsKey method. At the bottom of the page in the msdn library it says the following in the community content How to make sure that Contains functions properly.
I am new to vbExpress. I am working in vb express with MsAccess as database. I have a form with ListView and some comboboxes, textboxes, buttons etc. Now I am at the stage of forming different reports from database and then printing them. Like I want to make a RECEIPT with CompanyName as header, date, time, Serial Number, ItemDescription, Quantity,Price, Amount,Mode of payment. Then I want to generate sales reports like daily sale, weekly sale, monthly sale. The things like that. Definitely I will use SQL statements to bring data from the tables according to the requirements of reports. My question is how I can make and display different reports from the databases and to print them in proper format.
I need to create a login page as part of an assignment. Problem is, I don't have access and I'm not sure which other programs can be used as alternatives. I am hoping that it's possible to create the login screen using only a If...Then...Else Statement. If it is possible, I'm probably going about it the wrong way, as it skips the first two conditions and goes straight to the 'Else'.
Private Sub OK_btn_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles OK_btn.Click Dim Message As String
I was wondering if it was possible to generate fields or details (they are called in IDE) of a xml tables .When you create a database than go into the Datasources and find the table you want than there is a drop down box with datagridview and details. When you select details and than drag the table over to your form ,the IDE creates or the nessiary fields to add and view the data.
If Possible ,How do I do this Using a xml file and at runtime .I have already managed to create the xml as a dataset and view it in a datagridview .But how do I create the fields for the tables .BTW the XML has Multiple tables?
I hate SQL.I am busy making a program that can search through records in a database. The normal search works fine. When I say normal search it means something like this
Code:AppSearchField = "SELECT * FROM StudentInfo WHERE Class LIKE '%" & AppSearchValue & "%'" As you can see the LIKE statement enabled me to search for the items I wanted. now, there is a slight hiccup. Say for example I wanted to add a search condition like AND OR and NOT - it doesn't seem to work. For example, if I do a search like the above statement I get results for Class 1 and Class 10 - which sometimes I do not want, that is why I decided to add NOT etc.
I have made a project(made a new data set and forms made by dragging data set entries to form ) in vb.net in which i used ms access as database and now i created a setup file for it but when i run is its giving error regarding some connection to database.?
This is in a BindingNavigator. I'm trying to get it to save to the database when i click the Save button. This is what I have so far:
vb Private Sub SaveToolStripButton1_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles SaveToolStripButton1.Click
[CODE]..............
It's telling me "Object reference not set to an instance of an object." on the dsNewRow declaration, I have no idea what that means. That same code (aside from different names) works fine another another project.
i am caching objects, if i make linq queries on cached entities then... will theses queries make database round trip due to lazy loading in Entity framework?
A portion of my code is below. I am making a database application using FlexGrid and an ADO Control. I get errors on the statements following .saying that "Overload resolution failed because no accessible 'Fields' accepts this number of Arguments". Can someone explain this error and also a fix for it? I am using Visual Basic 2008.
Not sure if this is the right Forum to post this question. If not guide me where to post... I have an Access database that I would like to be able to share with Multiple user cuncurently... I have seen it is being done but I am not sure how? Or may be I should be using SQL Express.
In my Microsoft access database I have a table called Picture and 3 fields: ID, Name, Image. I was wondering if it was possible to get all the images from the field 'Image' and display them into SlideShowExtender.
