Is there any way to turn off a remote pc that's not by using shutdown /s /m \computer name etc...I just want to turn off the server computer at night from my laptop. Is it possible to make the program check for pings and then shutdown? Or is there an easier way? (Maybe if I'm not on the local network send over a "signal"(?) to the pc so that it'll shut down..?)

The following steps give a Guest shutdown policy.
1- Click run, and type the gpedit.msc, to start "Local Group Policy Editor".
2 -Expand "Computer Configuration" -> "Windows Settings" -> "Security Settings" -> "Local Policies" -> Then click "User Rights Assignment".
3- In the Policy window, Select "Force shutdown from a remote system", double click it, it will pop a properties window.
4- Click "Add user or group button", add a user and name it Guest.
I need to know if it's possible to manipulate and add the user or group programmatically. I'm using Visual Basic 2008.

I'm working on a web browser named Hyvar.NET and i'd like to integrate a form of shutdown detection into it.
Currently, it simply uses a tri-option setting to decide how it opens - like this
If My.Settings.LoadLastOnStart = True Then
frm.wbTab.Navigate(My.Settings.LastOpenedPage.ToString)
ElseIf My.Settings.HomeOnStart = True Then
[Code]....
Each variable is appropriately named for its job as you can see.
However, i want to change this to react to correct and incorrect shutdowns - unexpected and user instigated ones for example. I.E: if the settings variable for the detection contained 0x000000, it could indicate a clean exit and continue as normal with a new session, but 0x000001 would indicate an unclean shutdown and present the user with an option of reopening the last session or continueing as normal, like in IE 7/8
Im 100% sure this will require a windows API call

I made a little VB app to shutdown a laptop after it has been powered on for 2 1/2 hours, and giving the user a little over 8min warning that it is about to be shutdown. However I have nothing in place to stop the user from restarting the device once it is shutdown. What I would like to integrate in this, is a sort of memory where if the user doesn't wait at least 30 minutes, the shutdwon will re-iniate immediatly.
I included the code I did so far.
Public Class Form1
Private Declare Sub Sleep Lib "kernel32" (ByVal dwmilliseconds As Long)
Private Sub Form1_Load(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Me.Load

Alright im trying to make it where in Visual Basic 2008 you click on a box ether 10, 20, or 30. Then that tells a timer that the program needs to turn off in 10, 20, or 30 minutes. What I basically want it to do is, whenever the set amount time is when it goes off it shows form1(login form). I have prepared a picture can anyone supply me with some information on how to do this?

Private Sub Form1_FormClosing(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As FormClosingEventArgs) Handles Me.FormClosing
Me.Visible = False
e.Cancel = True
End Sub
Dont know if this is preventing it 0_O??? is there any alternative to this?

I am designing a program that will show a reminder form when the computer is shutting down. (The reminder is to go outside and get the Bluetooth gps aerial.) I have tried using the formclosing event, (triggered by windows shutting down) to flash the form up on the screen using windowstate = normal. (At loading, the form windowstate = minimised). This did not halt windows shut down and the form was only on the screen for a fraction of a second before windows shut down. Can I trap windows shutdown until the form btn_Yes has been selected?
I think this msdn library article is talking about this. [URL]
I have looked at the enumprocess api, but this is quite a bit outside my current knowledge level. From what I have read, enumprocess would be suitable as we all run the same program on our laptops and I could check for the change of state of that program. Eg. OK, program A is closing, the computer must be about to shutdown, so flash up the reminder form.

I mean i know i have to code it to call if from a folder but i do not know how to set up the form so i can make my own program. My teacher said that there used to be a thing where you just put in on the from and it did it for you is there a special thing you have to download to do that or do you have to actually go through and code it yourself. I do not want to be given code i just want to know the best way of starting my project whether it is making a thing so that i can play the videos

I'm looking to write a custom program in VB.NET / C++ / C# that would allow me to monitor a system's vitals over a Remote Desktop Connection. I'm only looking for tips on how to implement a connection like this in code (eg. is it just a simple object or call to a WScript function? or is it much more sophisticated?). As to the specifics of operation after making the connection, I have that figured out based on another program which shares some similar features. This doesn't have to go through an RDP connection, I'm definitely looking for better ways. Reason I mention RDP is because I currently do this manually over an RDP connection, but I don't wanna have to constantly open the window.

What would be the best way to make a Windows .NET application be the only program that can be used on a computer? I have come across timers or events to switch windows back to a window with matching text and some api32 calls to make a form top most.
Is it possible to make an application like the windows lock screen where nothing can be done except that what is on screen? I want to block users from doing other things and only let administrators get to the desktop.

I am making a program that is very simple, but I'm have problems with it. It runs like this:Theres a textbox and you enter in any amount you want.Next to that there are three radio buttons, deposit, check and service charge.If you enter in 100 in the transaction text box, and check the deposit radio button, and hit "Calculate" it will display 100 (in a total display box); hit calculate again, it will display 200, then 300, etc..Now lets say you keep 100 in the text box, but you check either "service charge" or "check" and hit calculate then it will MINUS the amount in your total display box. So for example if you had 300 in the total display box, and 100 in the transaction box and you checked "Service Charge" and hit calculate it would display 200 in the total display box, hit calculate again, and it shows 100.. etc..
Public Class Form1

I am making a program in vb.net (visual basic) that has two forms. I have one as a sort of "main" base which will be behind everything. Then I have another additional form which is suppose to go on top of the "main" form. Well I get this to work when I show both of the forms, but I want the smaller (additional) form to be centered onto the main form. If you want an easier sense of it, its a small box in a big box. (all centered and aligned). Does anyone know how to do this?
