View 2 RepliesI'm learning delegates in VB.NET and am confused about delegate types. In reading about delegates, I learned that delegates are a data type that can refer to a method with a particular kind of signature. So in the same way that a String can refer to characters, a delegate can refer to a method (for instance) that takes an integer as input and returns an integer as output. But in playing around with delegates, I found that this was not the case. The code below compiles and runs--even though I don't obey the 'typing' in my delegate signature. I'm confused. Am I missing something?

How to find shift and rotation between same two images using programming languages vb.net or C++ or C#?
View 5 RepliesI need to write a web application that should be available in several languages.
I can think of several way to do this, but I would like some advice on the best method.
1) put a table on the SQL server where each line as a unique ID and a column for the text for each language
2) Do the same as 1 but then use an XML file
3) Put for each language a table on the SQL server with only two columns (ID,text)
4) The same as 3 but in XML files
5) make a DLL with a collection class (read the choosen language from the database and place it in a collection, then use a FIND function)
6) make a DLL with a collection class for each language where the data comes from an XML file in the resource of the project.
Do all programming languages use the Static, HEAP, & Stack areas to store memory? Does understanding this help me with debugging in any way? How do I query or access the memory in .NET would I ever need to do that? Or the memory addresses?What keywords would I type into Google to get more on how the .NET CLR uses memory?I'm learning Java and am trying to compare .NET and Java and how memory management differs and is similiar.

As my preferred language is C# I create subfolder for C# code in the App_Code folder and add appropriate codeSubDirectories element to web.config file. The problem is that I can't refer VB.NET classes in my C# code. All VB.NET classes and structures are placed in global namespace in the App_Code. But even if I place some VB.NET class in the same namespace I've use for my classes in C#, I still can't use them.
View 2 RepliesI have a multilingual company website (Visual Studio / VB / ASP.NET 4.0), and when, on the homepage, you click a flag, the text changes to that language and stays with you the entire session, after I made a class, BasePage.vb. Everything works great, but the URL never changes .... clients.aspx remains clients.aspx although the text DOES switch to Dutch.
It's been recommended by @Aritstos to make it so it looks like clients.aspx?lang=nl as opposed to just clients.aspx in another language.

I'm an inquisitive .NET student without any commercial working knowledge and I have been puzzled by what exactlty are .NET languages meant for? Q1.If you look on job websites, .NET seems mainly used for web applications, not much for Windows applications? (My dream job is to develop standalone small Windows applications.)

visual basic.net is case insensitive so it allows the coder to write without caring or remembering the casing of variables. it also relieves from the 'undeclared variable' errors if you use the variable in another case than the one used in declaration. The fact that its line termination is a line feed makes it even more readable unlike C# or c++ that need good care in the casing and contineous war with following up with the {}, matching them and figuring out which is for which.my question is what are the advantages of c# over vb knowing that both get compiled to MSIL so there is almost no performance difference between the two languages?
View 1 RepliesI can currently make a dialog1 pop up, then the user clicks "Yes" for dialog1, then dialog2 pops up, and if the user clicks "no" instead of "yes", dialog2 reappears again. I've got a headache now, but I will re-look over my code to see if there are logic errors.
I originally had dialog2 and form1 (the form1 was acting as dialog1). But The thing was that I do not how to give properties of a dialog to a form (i.e. not make the user be able to click other windows while this form is open) IF I could have code that says Me.bringtofront (which I have tried) didn't work though. If I apply this command to a form I get an error:

error: Please make form1 not visible. something a long those lines. But what I don't understand is form1 was never open.
What do the standard lines of code do?:

I'm doing a pacman game and im stuck on how to make the pellets. This is the code i have so far.I was thinking of maybe making a picturebox for every pellet and then make an if statement that if pacman goes on a pellet it disappears and he gains a point. But this would be a VEERRRYYYY large if statement and im sure there is a better way to do it.

I have been making an rpg that i have been programing to be event driven, so the last step at this point is the items... i tryed using dictionary to store all the items but this kinda failed(Im not shure if dictionary is good idea for something like this any way). well i know how to hard code the items but i dont want to do this(Event Drivien is better). I have an ASP.net 3.5 website and I am using vb.net in VWD 2008 Express, I am also using MS SQL Server 2008 Express, I used ajax tabs and a textBox characters counter control developed by [URL]..The database is attached with MS SQL Server Management Studio Express and the files are stored in the SQL default "Data" folder.
The whole project's code and forms are stored in a folder in my E drive. I need to hand the whole project to another coworker who have to finish it, please describe in steps how can i make my website portable (like i can put it all in a folder that he can carry around in his flash disk).One more thing, I already finished my side of the project, I need to ship it out to this other programmer.
Can anyone suggest something like a: Checklist or Must Do list to achieve this?PS: I have had a problem trying to move the project from one server to the other, the project seems to look for the dlls of the AJAX control and the textBox counter where i originally unzipped the folders in which they cam in, which i think was on my desktop, although when i added those controls to the Tools tab, i created a new tab, then i choose the dll from the where i unzipped the controls source code, aint that enough?

View 15 RepliesI'm a huge music person (got my own lil record thing going) but I'm wanting to design a program that would make music in my way. I have a decent amount of background knowlege of Visual Basic and Java I'm just wondering how could I execute this whole project. The Project is making a MPC Sampler. MPC is a drum machine; a machine with buttons that once you press it that it will play a sound from a drum (ex: snare, kick, tom, ect.) . So I would want to make some pads on my program that each have their own sound. Total of 16 pads. Which the design wouldn't be hard to make nor would the functionality of it having the play back sound (in my opinoin it wouldn't be hard atleast). But the thing is I wanna map out these pads to number keys on the number pad or keyboard. I'm not so sure how to do that. But that's all the easy stuff...
Also finding information is making a sound directory. What I mean by this is that I want to make a User Interface that will open up a file directory of sounds and the user can select what "kick" or "snare" sound he may want for the kick or snare pad. I don't know how to do that or even know what to search; neverless I don't know if this whole project idea is a good idea for Visual Basic or another programing language.
Also LATER ON I am wanting to add a record and export function that alows users to..well...record and export their beat or instrumental ha. That doesn't seem too too complex (mainly due to the fact that all it needs to do is record the users key strokes and then show them and play the sounds, but obviously it would get more complex than that.)
