I am making a popup program for something, so I added a listbox and such, and I need to know how to go about making the system pull items off the listbox randomly and launch them in the web browser.

View 3 RepliesAnyway, I'm a teacher and am writing a program that simply shows kids a word on a flashcard. There are 2 buttons, 1 to read the word and 1 to go to a new work. There are going to be 300 words. Really I'm just testing it right here. What I want to know is should I be inputting all the words right into the code like I did with "hi" and "not 1" (Don't ask. those are just the 2 random words I picked to test this out with). OR is there a better way (maybe somehow to type all the words on a text file and have the program randomly pull one of them (I don't know how to do this).

I am using VB.NET (version 2008). I have two types of items populating in a listbox (checked listbox). For example: lets say one is type "A" and other is "Type B". Their names maybe same so if the user sees those items in listbox then he won;t be able to determine their type until he click on them and checks out its properties. I wanted that I add each item to listbox and colour them so that blue for example means type "A" is there and red means the other. So this way I will be able to know at a glance that how many item of what type is present. I guess it may not be possible to do that in a standard checkedlistbox. I am also using component factory's krypton controls which enhance the gui of an application. But I dunno if I can progress using that.

I am trying to launch the default web browser and have it navigate to a URL that is put together by multiple strings, but when i run this i get an error "The system cannot find the file specified", but if i replace this long string with the already made URL it works.

I made a program were the user enters their username and password and then they click a button and it will launch the default web browser and sign them in but for some reason it only works in Google Chrome and FireFox. It opens Internet Explorer but it doesn't go to any page it just has a white page and no text in the address bar.Here is the code i am using to launch the browser:

Is there any way to make Windows call a VB program instead of the default Internet browser?
What I want to do is to use a VB program with buttons down the left-hand side that when clicked will launch that URL in the browser windows of the form. This will prevent users from surfing in places they shouldn't but still allow them to get to the sites they need to get to for their jobs. These buttons could also change based on the username of the person launching the program.
But it all depends on being able to call this program in place of the browser when they click on a link in a email or somewhere else.

I have a class and I am trying to randomly select 3 items to display on a page (each item should be unique so that there is no repeating).I have some code that works(ish). The problem is that when I track the random numbers it takes about at least 50 attempts for the application to select a different random number than the one that was chosen the first time (defying the laws of probability).[code]

what I want is to select random items from a CheckedListBox and then print them to a sheet of paper. I also want to define how many random items are checked via a TextBox. Let's say I have 50 items in the CheckedListBox and I want to randomly select only 10 (more or less - user defined via the TextBox) of them and print them to a sheet of paper.

This is what I'm trying to accomplish: I have a Point of Sale application that integrates with a credit card processesor. I wan't to remove any user interfacing logic in regards to the credit card processor in the point of sale and add it to a application that sits in the background or system tray. I want to be able to send a command to the background app to popup a form for user input.
For example: User in the Point of Sale clicks a button "Credit Card" at this point it will send a command to the background app say "ProcessCC" which will pass a transactionid and an amount , this will open a form for the user to enter in the credit card information and submit the payment to the credit card proccessor.
Reason: I need to get a padss certification and don't want to submit the point of sale to do it. Rather send the simple background app that will control any credit card processing functionality such as encryption , storing etc. I know it can be done using sockets but was hopping for an alternative solution.
