View 1 Replieshow do i simply query the database and return values to my textboxes etc? all i can fiqure out is the default views but that is not what im after, also how to add data as well (lets say i have a text box with data and i wish to add it to the database)im sure its simple but i cant figure it out, in vba i just used the current sheets or tables but this is beyond me. i will admit it.
View 23 RepliesI've got a micro controller with 4 channel ADC that I want to make a program for. It will be for data logging. I want to take each channel and display it in 4 textboxes to begin with.Later I like to do some conversions of the data to show temperature , use a lookup table and a few other things in each of these boxes, but at first I'd just like to concentrate on getting the data split into each box.The chip output is 8 bytes . The first two are the channel select and the next two is the data. Output of the chip is in ASCII. I don't want to send to the chip, just receive. If I view the output in decimal I get 1xx 2xx 3xx 4xx (xx being the data to display).

i am trying to find examples of getting data back from a stored procedure that has no parameters sent to it nor has any returned output parameter. Though it does display data. How can i get that from my code im using below?
Dim myCommandSQL As New SqlCommand
Dim myReaderSQL As SqlDataReader = Nothing
Dim intX As Integer = 0[code]....
The @return_value i just put there to see what would happen but i got nothing returned.
Here's a simple code snippet of a larger function as an example.
Using conn as New SqlConnection("conn string")
Using find as new SqlCommand("ExampleProc",conn)
Dim rParam as new SqlParameter("@RESULT",SqlDbType.Int)
[code]....
I know the Output parameter is returned after the SqlDataReader is closed. From what I think I know, the Using statement will call .Dispose on the SqlDataReader, so will that basically wipe out the Output parameter? If so, what is the best method to call a SqlDataReader that also contains Output parameters that closes and disposes everything correctly? Let me add that based on what I've read you only have access to the Output parameter using a SqlDataReader after you call .Close on the SqlDataReader.
Im using a function to set an option on a web page - I'm trying to capture the return message (Which is "ok" or an error), I want to cature "ok" and return a friendly message, otherwise return the actual message. This If Then Else seems to be false for the If even when "ok" is returned:

I am creating an application for a friend and have no issue inserting or updating the table, but I am having trouble relaying the information from the query back to the corresponding textbox when searching for an entry.
This is the closest thing I've got to a working model, but I'm still getting and "array out of index error".

So, I run a select statement in SQL and then it has something like " where clientName = 'John Doe' " I can generate a datagrid or dataset off the SQL statement, but it will only be good fro one client...... I would like to be able to populate a dataset/grid using the select satement and then having something like a combo box of names the USER can choose. Then the user selects the name and the datagrid is populated with that clients info or w/e........

Is there a way i can execute a CLI program and have it output or return what the CLI program sais, such as ping etc.
View 3 RepliesI have here a combobox1 named choosename in form1. then i have a 10 textboxes named answers in form2.
I want that if i choose from the combobox1 the textboxes answers of form2 to will link to it. and it save into my sql database.
I need to create a search form where a combobox populates with names then the user clicks a name and the textboxes in the form are filled with the correct data for example txt_Firstname txt_last txt__nameage would all be filled with the right data from access.
I already have the combobox sorted meaning i can successfully see First names in the combo box so now all i need is helping with clicking a name in the combo box and the dataset being populated in the text boxes heres the code used to populate the combo box:
Private Sub Search_Load(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles MyBase.Load
dbprovider = "PROVIDER = microsoft.jet.OLEDB.4.0;"

Alright, let's try this again. I have an mdb file as a database in my program, I need this mdb file to be what my published program reads off of. Is there any way to have Visual Basic (2008 Express) not encode my mdb file to Example.mdb.deploy?
View 1 RepliesThis isnt the first time i have posted about a graph, last time i was posting about which way i should do it, now that i have created the graph (by drawing individual lines) i was wondering what the easiest way to actually get data from a SQL database and output it as a line on a graph. here is a picture of what the graph looks like (bottom of the page) [URL]

I am currently attempting to write a program that will take a SQL query saved as a .sql or .txt and execute it against a specified database, and output the results to file. I have seen some sample code of executing a SQL query line by line,
and writing individual results to file.
The query that needs to be run is only reading information from multiple tables, but is pretty lengthy to do line by line. Is it possible to execute or read the whole query from the .sql file, or a text file, and run it against a specified database, and
have the results of the query output to file in vb.net?
Im currently doing a small programme of a register system. I need to add a new group box filed with a few textboxes and a couple comboboxes for each entry in a access 2010 database. for example if i had someone called bob in my database with his details i would like the GUI of the VB app to add in a new textbox for the name, a textbox for the address ect in a set order, this needs to work for multiple entry's so the textboxes ect don't overlap but be placed neatly below the added textbox.

Alright it's been awhile since I messed with this project, so here goes. It's an appointment scheduler and everything works except two things: I can't edit existing appointments and it only records the current time, not the timeslot I click on.
If I try to edit an existing appointment it doesn't get the row data, just shows me blank text boxes. I assume I have to have those text boxes read the info from the database, but I don't know how to do that.
This is how it looks:
So, you double click a time slot and it looks like the second window. You can right click on an existing appointment to edit it, but when you do that all the text boxes remain blank like you're inserting a new one.
What code would I use to read whatever row's data I am trying to edit and insert it back into the boxes?
Here is the code I use to add new rows to the DB:
Private Sub btnAdd_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles btnAdd.Click
Dim NR As TestAppointmentDataBaseDataSet.AppointmentRow

Ok I can successfully connect to my Access database but I am still learning on how to output that data. Here is the run down.I am designing a page where the user inputs the customer ID and then gets a list of incidents for that customer. Then I would like the user to be able to add a survey about the incident.Problem I am running into is the ability to display this data. I have tried various method. Eventually I want to be able to display the data into a listbox and have them select it and take the survey but I am not near that far yet. Here is what I have on the connection and my attempt which doesn't work to output the data:
