Passing Values From A List In Classes?
May 5, 2011
Im having a hard time trying to pass the values from a list inside of a class. Im trying to display multiple lines of values from a list inside of a class. My "client" class stores multiple lines of values into a list(of class transaction), with the number value(num) counting each transaction that it adds to the list.
Code:
Public Class Client
Private m_tranlist As New List(Of transaction)[code]....
im trying to display each line that is stored in the list in a label, and im having major trouble. I know all of the results are added into the lists, but how do i call the list in my main form in order to display each line of all of the values? Would I have to look up an index or something?

I have implemented inheritance for two parent classes called Table and Field. Each parent class has several child classes. In the Table parent class, I created a method that expects parameter List(Of Field).
I get an error when trying to pass in parameter List(Of ChildField) to the method that expects a parameter of List(Of Field). The error message is as below:
Value of type
'System.Collections.Generic.List(Of
com.hlb.icisbatch.data.ChildField)'

Im having problems passing values from my class "client" to display on my main form in text boxes. Im looking up a user input number and then pulling the clients first name, last name, and phone number from a text file. I figured out how to pull the information from the text files, but now im having difficulty passing the values to display in a another forms text box. This is what I have so far.[code]....

This is more of a conceptual question than anything.
I have a base class called "RawReader".
It sets up the framework for classes to inherit it and read in specific data systems.
For example, I want an app read in a known format of FoxPro database, a CSV file, or a SQL database (there is about 8 more formats currently), then transfer it over a webservice and create a SQL database from it.
I have everything working with CSV, FoxPro, Access, Excel, etc... Easy enough.
The classes that inherit RawReader, like RawCSV, RawFoxPro, RawAccess all return a struct that contains a dataset as one of the members. The dataset contains the data from the raw system. The webservice receives this struct and creates sql tables and loads the data into it. This has already been coded and works great.
My issue now comes to reading in SQL. Obviously, I could follow the same path, read the remote SQL DB into a dataset, transfer the dataset as above, etc... My "issue" comes in where I feel like it doesnt make much sense to transfer a SQL db to a dataset, transfer it through the webservice, and then try to programmatically recreate the SQL database. I feel like I lose a lot of the granular details from the SQL database (field sizes, extended info, etc..) It seems easier in practice to just create a backup of the database, convert it to a stream object and transfer the backup over to the webservice. But this is where the problem lies...
Since all of the classes inherit from the base class, they are set up to return a DataSet. The hack-ish way would be to just add a stream object to the return struct and in my webservice add other code to make a special case for SQL sources, but I was trying to avoid that.
Any thoughts on the "proper" way to go about something like this?

I'm still learning so this might be completely wrong. I have built a multi-user web application for internal purposes. I have split my code up to make it more manageable and have run into some problems. I suspect that I have done something very silly!
I have a class in a separate file (quoteStatus.vb) in App_Code here it is:
Imports Microsoft.VisualBasic
Imports System.Data.SqlClient
Imports System.Data
Public Class quoteStatusHelper
[Code]...
This seems really wrong, as the value seems to be held in the partial class after the first run. So if I have two users accessing the class the public shared dim is changed for both users! There must be a better way to do this. I have looked everywhere and I'm more confused now than when I started off..How can I make QuoteStatus in the partial class unique to every user and access it from my code.

Sorry if this is a bit random, but is it good practice to give all fields of a class a value when the class is instanciated? I'm just wondering if its better practice to have a constuctor that takes no parameters and gives all the fields default values, or whether fields that have values should be assigned and others left alone until required?

I have 2 lists of classes with thousands of elements. Each class has the same structure.
I need to synchronize the 2 lists by comparing the version, the dateandtime and if they have been labelled to be deleted in one list.
is there any trick to make this very long process as fast as possible apart from splitting the work on threads?

I am working on an assignment that requires several classes, two of which inherit a base class.[code]...
Is it possible to create a list that would contain both the Checking balance and the Savings balance since they are separate classes?

Need a list of Pcap.Net members or classes? Their website doesn't have much documentation and have looked around in the forums.
I have found..
PacketTs = Packet.Timestamp.ToString("yyyy-MM-dd hh:mm:ss.fff")
PacketS = Packet.Ethernet.IpV4.Source
PacketSp = Packet.Ethernet.IpV4.Transport.SourcePort
PacketD = Packet.Ethernet.IpV4.Destination

I think I'm getting hung up on syntax here. I've got 2 forms and am trying to pass a textbox value from the 1st form to the 2nd. The textbox value is an unique ID #, so it's an integer value in the database. The ID displays in the textbox just fine on the 1st form. When I try to access the value of this ID textbox in code in the 2nd form, I see that the value is empty, or equal to "". But I see a valid ID # on the 1st form. Here's the code that shows me that the textbox equals "".

I'm pulling up a a webpage in a control and the page is full of Java functions. I'm able to use execute a function using invokescript. That works out really well. But here's the thing. There's a function that takes the value of a rendered textbox and uses that data to perform the function.The textbox is usually hidden until another function activates it to enter data.What I want to do is to bypass having the textbox come up and execute the function with predefined data. Basically the function refers to the data it gets as txtWrapupComment.value whereas txtWrapupComment is the textbox it's getting its data from.
So, the bottom line, is there a way I can declare txtWrapupComment.value and pass it before I execute the funtion?

If I have a generic.list(of ClassA), is there a simple way to create a deep copy of this list that will not affect the original copy? It seems to work if I have a generic list of Structures, but for some reason the copy constructor for lists of classes only copies pointers to the elements (or maybe a pointer to the whole list?). I would move to structures if it were not for the fact that I can't find a way to edit the members in the structs in the list. eg:list(0).a = 5 'Does not workIs there some way to get around this without declaring an instance of that structure, like this:dim str as StructA = list(0)str.a = 5I'd

I have several different lists I want to call. They all have the same format for the class:
id, value, description, order.
Instead of creating a bunch a classes to return the all of the many lists, I wanted to use generics and just tell it what kind of list to return. However, I can not figure out how to populate the classes.
Here are 2 examples of function in my calling code. This should indicate the type of list and the stored proc used to get the data:
Public Function getTheEyeColors()
Dim glEyeColors As New GenericList
Return glEyeColors.GetALList(Of EyeColor)("GetAllEyeColors")
End Function

My problem is that I have two forms, Form1 and Form2 ...on Form1 there is a TextBox called txtTotal (this contains the calculation of Ticket Prices, thus it's a numeric value) and on Form2 there is a TextBox called txtTotal2. All I want to do is get the same number that appears in txtTotal on Form1 to appear in txtTotal2 on Form2 .However whenever I try some of the help tips online such as using a declaring txtTotal as global or friend it dosn't work, and any other code iv tried attempts pass the textbox value as String which brings an error.

Can anyone give me the best method of passing back a value from a Thread?I have some procedures that I have set up as threads that I'm starting at the same time.My main function then waits until the threads are done and I'm needing to get back some values that the threads have created.Is there a better way to get these values back rather than just having them set a global variable with the returned value? Also, what is the proper way to wait for a thread to to be completed?I've just got a loop waiting for the Thread. Thread State property to not be in the Running state.So if there is a more proper way to wait for the thread to end I would be interested in knowing it.

This may not be the place to ask this, if not, you can move this post to the SQL forum but I have an application that I'm building which pulls dates from a database. The start value is stored as payPeriodStart date and I add 7 days to get the end date. What I need to know is, is it possible to store those values and pass them to a Stored Procedure? Currently my stored procedures have "static" dates in them ie:
where dateadd (n, Timestamp, '12/31/1899') - ([LoggedIn]/1000)/60/1440+1 Between '10/3/2010' and '10/10/2010'
and I'd like those values to be
Between payPeriodStartDate and payPeriodEndDate.

'...
Public Sub clickHandler(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs)
'dim i as integer = e
