Processes - Start Process Iteratively Or Change Argument Dynamically?

Jul 8, 2009

i have used following code to repeat a process creation/close iteratively dim vProcessInfo as new ProcessInfo For i= 1 to 100 dim p as new Process vProcessInfo.Arguments = some"+i.toString() p.StartInfo = vProcessInfo p.Start() p.WaitForExit() p.Close() Next i the above code worked for me successfully. but it takes too much time for process creation and dispose. i had to change process argument dynamically in the iteration. is there any way to change the process argument dynamically. or is there any better method to reduce time.

Process.Start Only Starts Up To 23 Simultaneous Processes From A Service On XP?

Oct 22, 2009

I have a service that needs to run several independent processes, my problem is that it only creates up to 23, from the 24th and so on the processes are not started and a DW20.EXE window error is displayed, it only says that the there has been an unhandled exception and that the proceess is going to be closed. Inside the process.start block there is no error so I guess it could be some limitation somewhere.

VS 2008 Differentiate Processes - Change The Color Of Rows Based On Whether The Process Is Owned By The User

Oct 13, 2009

I have populated a ListView with currently running processes and with the help of JMC, been able to highlight specific rows based on memory consumption. However, I've decided to change it up a little bit and change the color of rows based on whether the process is owned by the User, if it's a System process, or if is a Service. I've already been able to determine if the process is a User process by utilizing the OpenProcessToken.

Where Is 'Start' Argument

Apr 2, 2012

I have migrated my app from VB6 through Visual Studio 2008 to VS 2010. I have corrected all flagged errors, but I have not made any changes to code otherwise. Now I am getting Error #5 under some circumstances, and the text of the message is as follows:Argument 'Start' is not a valid value.I have done a global find for 'Start' throughout my Solution, but got no hits within my Basic code. Where is this error originating?Why has the pasting of the error text above changed my post's font?

MethodBase - Any Way To Get Argument Values Dynamically?

Oct 5, 2009

Is It possible to get the arguments' values used in the previous execution method?
For example:

Public Sub GetPreviousMethod()
Dim stackTrace As StackTrace = New StackTrace
Dim stackFrame As StackFrame = stackTrace.GetFrame(1)
'MethodBase: Get the previous method
Dim methodBase As MethodBase = stackFrame.GetMethod()
End Sub

If I use 'methodBase.Name', It works 100% and return the method name. I got the arguments' names of this methodBase using Reflection, and is It possible to get dynamically the values of the arguments?

Process.Start To Start An External Command Line Application

Aug 4, 2009

I'm using Process.Start to start an external command line application and using the StartInfo.Arguments method to send parameters to the application. I imagine I'll need to use a loop... but I can't figure out exactly how yet.I need to send anywhere from 1 - an infinite number of files names to this application. Each file has to be sent one after the other. So once the first one is done, I need to loop back around and past the second one.I can probably use the Directory.GetFiles method to get all of the files, but I don't know how to assign them.

VS 2010 Unable To Start Specific Command With Process.start

Here's what I currently have:

[Code]...

I've commented out various things to limit it to specifically this command (example, I can swap mklink out with notepad and it works fine). The command runs fine from a DOS window, but can't be found when I use it this way. I also tried using the SHELL command just to test and I get the same results. No idea why it can't be found, as like I said it executes from the command prompt just fine.

OSK Process Start/stop - PID.Kill() Fails Because It Says The Process Already Exited

My app starts an On-Screen Keyboard process like this:

Dim PID as System.Diagnostics.Process
:
PID = Process.Start("C:WindowsSystem32osk.exe")
:

[CODE]...

It seems to work 90% of the time. However, sometimes the PID.Kill() fails because it says the process already exited. At this point the OSK is always still there on screen. Yes, I know my code should be testing to see if the process is still running before trying to kill it, but given that the OSK is still on screen..

I want the process.start to run in the background so if users click in my main app it responds and truly that they can access the context menu of my main app from the taskbar while the process.start is running.

Process.Start - Set Start In Directory?

Feb 8, 2012

I am writing an application that in the end needs to execute another executable at some point, the problem is that the executable has dependencies in the directory it runs in that are required to operate. When I use the Process.Start to run the executable it errors out because it's looking for the dependencies in my applications directory.

I tried the startInfo.WorkingDirectory option but that didn't seem to do it either (not sure if I did it right) - here is how I used that:

Process.Start("my.exe").StartInfo.WorkingDirectory = "C:Test"For the life of me I cannot find how to set the "Start In" directory. I looked everywhere, so unless it's under a different name, I'm at a loss.

Asp.net - Iteratively Reference Controls By Name Pattern (.NET)?

Sep 26, 2011

Is there a way to iteratively reference an ASP.NET control based on it's name pattern? Perhaps by a "pointer" or something?What I have are a large set of comboboxes (each with an associated DropDownList and TextBox control). The DropDownList always has an item selected by default, but the use may wish to submit a NULL value. I come up with the following code to handle three cases: NULL, Existing Item, New Item.

'TextBoxControl & DropDownListControl should iteratively reference their
' respective TextBox & DropDownList controls by the actual control name

[code]....

The problem is, with so many comboboxes, I could easily end up with hundreds of lines of code. I wish to handle this in a more dynamic way, but I do not know if it is possible to reference controls in this way. Say I wanted to reference all the TextBox Controls and DropDownList Controls, respectively.

I can do string formatting with a given naming pattern to generate a name ID for any of the controls because they are all named with the same pattern. For example by attaching a specific suffix, say "_tb" for TextBox Controls and "_ddl" for DropDownList Controls:

Left(item.SelectedItem.ToString, item.SelectedItem.ToString.Length - 3) + "_tb"

Can this sort of thing be done in VB? Ultimately, my goal is to take the value entered/selected by the user, if any, and send it to a stored procedure on SQL Server for insertion into the database.

C# - Kill Process Started With System.Diagnostic.Process.Start("FileName")

Oct 2, 2010

I am trying to create an app that will perform actions on specific times (much like the Windows Task Scheduler). I am currently using Process.Start() to lunch the file (or exe) required by the task. I am initiating a process by calling a file (an .mp3) and the process starts WMP (since it is the default application), so far so good. Now I wan't to kill that process. I know that it is normal behavior for the Process.Start(string, string) to return nothing (null in C#) in this case. So I am asking how can i close WMP when I called it through Process.Start(string, string)??

Get Information About A Processes When An System Process Event Is Raised An Event

May 17, 2012

I am making a function of an application that when a function is called the application will close all processes that are owned by the user and were started after a specific point. My thoughts on this would be to trigger an event in my application every time a process is started and ended, and only if the processes is owned by the user, the event should get information (e.g. the process ID, name, etc) about that process and add or remove that information to/from an array depending on if the process starts or ends. Then when a function is called end all the processes in that array.

.net - Process.Start Not Starting?

May 24, 2011

I'm trying to execute a 3rd party application, called from a .cmd batch file, called from a self-hosted WCF service. Like this:

WCF --> .cmd --> 3rd party app

For whatever reason, using the Shell command doesn't work fully. It will call the .cmd file, but the 3rd party app won't kick off (I know the .cmd is firing because I have before/after ECHO statements populating a log file). If I double-click the .cmd file from explorer, the 3rd party app will start just fine. So, I figured, maybe try something besides the Shell command from my WCF service.

So I tried the following code, but it won't kick off the .cmd file at all (echo statements not firing). What am I missing here?

Dim psi As New ProcessStartInfo("cmd.exe", "/C " & System.Configuration.ConfigurationManager.AppSettings("ExStream_CMD_File_Path"))
Dim proc As New Process()
proc.StartInfo = psi
proc.Start()
proc.WaitForExit()

The path in the app.config file is valid (just double-checked). Is there anything wrong with the above code?

Hook For Process Start?

Feb 10, 2010

Is there any way I can install a global hook or something else on the start of external process. WH_CBT hook, as it appears can only intercept events for processes that have windows, but what if I want to intercept the start/stop of a windowless application or a windows service? Is there any way to do it using .NET?Generally, I want my application to receive a notification of some process being launched knowing only an executable name.Presently I simply use a timer to iterate through running processes, but I wonder if there a better way to do it?
