Get IntelliSense For Lack Of Better Term To Work Like It Does For C#?
May 18, 2010Is there a way to get the IntelliSense for a lack of better term to work like it does for C#? For example, lets say I want to add a MessageBox to my form. With C# as soon as I get around Mess it's already coming up with the rest of the word, and the same with variables and control names. Just wondering if I'm missing a setting or something some place or if this is just another example of how things are different between the enviroments. Using Visual Studio 2005.

The problem is that this information is spread across two columns in the underlying database (e.g. FIRST_NAME, LAST_NAME). My code looks like this:

If I enter "Mackey" it returns results, but "Dave Mackey" returns no results, I'm assuming b/c it is looking for the entire value in one first (either, but not both together), whereas I want it to return any rows where it finds the entirety even if it is spread across multiple DataFields.

Oct 11, 2009I'm trying to create an application that will allow me to type a search term, corresponding to any field contained in a database, and have the results displayed in a datagrid view. The idea is that the application will display any records that have the search term in any of the fields, rather than just allowing the user to search based on one field only.
I keep getting an error on the dataAdapter.Fill(dt) line. I've tried reorganising lines of code just in case my logic was wrong, but the result is the same. The program just crashes when it reaches this line.

Concatenating A Variable With A Regex Group Match In Regex.replace?
Apr 5, 2012I am having an issue where I am using regex.Replace to replace part of a string. The basic idea is that I want to capture the beginning of the string then replace the end of the string with a value from code. For an example pretend I have a string that says "Test Number " followed by number and I want to increment that number. I capture the "Test Number " but when I try to concatenate that capture with the new number it treats the capture ($1) as a literal and replaces the entire string with $1[new number].

This will output "We are on Test Number 2", as expected. how I can use a variable in the replacement string portion of the Regex.Replace when including a captured group?

Increment Regex Match Using Regex.Replace
Jun 21, 2012I'm creating a program in VB.NET to output multiple images. Some images will have the same file name. If there is multiple files with the same name I want to add "_1_" to the end of the file name. If the "_1_" file already exists I want to increment the 1 to be "_2_". If this file already exists I want to continue incrementing the number ultil it doesn't exist. So for example "filename", filename_1_", "filename_2_", etc. Here is the code that I have tried

Game Programming :: Programming Such As OOP ?
Oct 30, 2011I avidly create games in VB.net. Being a hobby programmer I give my games away for free. Since I'm a hobbiest without formal training I do try and educate myself on proper programming principles and follow them when programming such as OOP. There are however some things I have obviously missed being self-taught that perhaps I would know if I were formally educated. Once such issue that has really been my bane is how different classes (from now on referred to as objects) 'know' about each other WITHOUT programming specific interaction.
Okay imagine this, you have a space game and the following objects

Now each one of these objects has a Health, X,Y and Z private members and properties that are all inherited from clsSpaceEntity for argument sake. Now one way of programming collision between them would be to code out the following logic in the main game loop

Now this might seam okay if your talking about the simple example above but some of my games have tens or even HUNDREDS of objects that interact in this basic way. Is there a way in OOP to do the following... for each thing that inherits from clsSpaceEntity check against every other object that inherits this type (except itself) and if they collide then reduce health next? This sort of ability for a type of objects/class or whatever to be 'aware' of another and how they are the same/different and interact would save me tonnes and tonnes and TONNES of coding.

I think maybe it has something to do with the event (MDIMain_Load)? I feel as if the program is only making a child instance of the frmUserInfo once (since the program only loads MDIMain once). And after I close it (frmUserInfo), it loads outside the MDI. Another thing, how do you kill forms that were hidden using .hide()? Is .dispose() applicable?

Mar 31, 2011I have been reading up on the parallel programming and even now still a little confused on the whole concepts. Lets say I have a single project with about 5 classes that interact and have local variables in methods and variables accessible to all methods in a single class and even 1 or 2 variables accessible to all classes accessed through instantiation. Now using threads I know that global variables would be overridden by multiple threads if there were no locking applied but local variables to a method/function do not, right?
So if I ran the project multiple times meaning as a new process, the methods and variables would be thread safe right and no data corruption occurs? So to implement parallel programming using the task factory, if I created a project that basically creates tasks and each task is basically running an instance of another project, then shouldn't the variables and data be thread safe and safe from corruption? But what if I had the output files and they named by Output & datetime.now.tostring, would there be conflict issues and I ask this knowing that I have seen this happen when trying it. [Code]
