View 8 RepliesI have a project in Visual Studio 2008 and there is a working data connection to a MySQL database. In other words, I can query the db directly from Visual Studio and it will display the results.
I've tried a couple of approaches that I found online for writing a connection string and accessing the db, but no luck yet.
All I'm trying to do is code a button to query the db and then reset the text property of a label/textbox to display the results based upon another label/textbox value.
The pseudo-code I am imagining is something like this:
Private Sub query_submit_button_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles query_submit_button.Click
result_textbox.Text = SELECT field FROM table WHERE otherfield = key_textbox.Text
End Sub
I didn't see any related questions posted on SO - forgive me if I missed one that already exists and this is a dupe.
What is the correct way to accomplish this?
EDIT
Using MySQL 5.1
I have a program written in VB6/VB.net and its supposed to calculate a set of numbers based on user input. From there the data is saved into an xml file. I want to be able to take the data from the xml file and draw a chart representing all the data. I found a tutorial that draws line graphs based on an predetermined array of data, but I need the program to take the data from an xml file.
Heres the code for the line drawing program:
Option Strict On
Imports System.Drawing.Drawing2D
Public Class ViewChart
[Code]....
I'd like to get suggestion in both C# and VB.NET I created Chart like the following image:

I would like to build a line chart which can redraw or change during a period of time with dynamic data. So that the x, y axis will change if out of range. The graph may be somehow similar to Matlab. I am using vs2005.
View 2 RepliesI am running the following query against a database of research reference works (books, articles, etc.):
SELECT [Names].[Last] AS Authors, [References].PubYear AS [Year], [References].ShortTitle AS Title, [References].SourceWork,
RefTypes.Description
FROM ((([References] INNER JOIN
Contributors ON [References].ID = Contributors.RefID) INNER JOIN
[code]....
This query returns one row for each Author (contributor type=1), of the specified reference. The rows will all be exactly the same except for the Author last names taken from the NAMES table. For example:
Author Year Title SourceWork Type
--------------- ------- --------------------------------- ----------- ----------
Rahner 1966 Revelation and Tradition Null Book
Ratzinger 1966 Revelation and Tradition Null Book
I'm looking for a way to consolidate the string data from the Author column into one string, so that this can return a single row with the Author field looking something like "Rahner, Ratzinger" -- like one could do if it were numeric data by using the GROUP BY clause with an aggregate function such as SUM or AVG.
I have a query that will go away an and find data
Dim HSNs As String = String.Join(",", ListOfHSNs.Cast(Of String)().ToArray())
Dim query As String = "SELECT VALUE O FROM v_BillData AS O WHERE O.HSNumber IN {'" & HSNs & "'}"
Dim hs As New ObjectQuery(Of v_BillData)(query, CType(Session("ObjectCon"), ObjectContext))
What I now wish to do is to use the results of this query to databind to a EntityDataSource?
I'm retrieving data from an Excel sheet, using a simple SQL query using a textbox as input to my variable. It works great when I enter an integer to search for (such as 213 for example) but when I put in a mixture of numbers and letters (48A for example) I get the following error: Syntax error (missing operator) in query expression '[P&L]=48A'.
Private Sub MPLS3()
Dim BrNr As String
BrNr = TextBox1.Text
Dim stSQL As String = "SELECT [MPLS Date] FROM [Master Data$] WHERE [P&L]=" & BrNr & ";"

View 4 RepliesI'm trying to present results on an aspx web page where a store procedure parameter is defined by a dropdown list control on the page. I have followed this guide from Microsoft and have my resultset presented in a DataGrid view. But I cannot seem to adapt it to present the resultset in a chart.
As you can see from my VB code below, I thought it would simply be a case of adapting the GridView databind to a Chart. I have tried various other options, and have successfully generated my data in a chart using a hard-coded parameter in an SQL statement on the ASP page. But when it comes to using the control, I get an empty chart.
Below is what I have so far.
Imports System.Data.SqlClient
Public Class Report

View 2 RepliesI have a chart in Excel that I'd like to use a subtitle on. There is no SubTitle Property on the chart object, so I looked in the Excel User interface and found that you can only create a sub-title by using a text box. The text box looks like its associated with the chart, not the worksheet, so how would I access that text box from code?

I just need my chart to load this log file and loop through it and populate my line chart.I am able to make a line chart and populate it from a text file but only in a long way. I first load all the data to 10 text boxes, then I split all the data into 40 other text boxes then I use that to populate the chart, There has to be a easier way of doing this. With my current way I can only load up 10 days of data.I would like to be able to load up 30 days of data or even a years worth (365 entry's).I am using visual basic 2008 with .NET Framework 4 Chart Controls.[code].....The Date has to be at the bottom of this chart (going left to right) and the numbers on the left side.

There are plenty of references on the Internet on MSChart (AxMSChart)for Visual Basic 2008, but the published code seems to have all sorts of problems. I am a novice and trying to get a line chart with scaled dates on the x-axis.
