I'm trying to undersatnd the syntax of calling a funciton and it seem confusing when I'm using a web service in ASP.net. Maybe this question should be in an ASP forum, but it is a VB question. This simple web service allows you to type in your name and it response with an alert box with you name.
My question is, How can you call a function with 2 arguments when the function is only defined for one. I understand that the second argument is actually a method that handling the respons, but how can you interchange function arguments for methods and how do you know that there are methods for
Here's my call:
<script type="text/javascript">

var yourName = $get('txtYourName').value;

I have a function in a module that returns a datatable.I need to call that function asynchronously and get the results in the Main thread (Main Form) in vb.net.
View 2 RepliesIn my VB.net code i have:
cmd.CommandText = "SELECT * FROM [strfg].[dbo].[Myfunc] (@MyParam)"
Dim myparam As New SqlParameter("@MyParam", a)
cmd.Parameters.Add(myparam)
The function (runnig on SQL server) returns a table with four columns, one row.How do I call this function from Visual Basic? cmd.ExecuteScalar() is obviously not correct. In c++ I use a recordset. What is the equivalent in vb? Does anyone have a short example?
I need to refactor the method GetVendorBalanceDue to call stored procedure spVendorBalance in my database. I have created the stored procedure and am not sure how to get the method to call the stored procedure. Here is my code:

I am trying to convert a DLL function call which has the Callback function routine called within the DLL function call.The DLL function call signature is like this:
typedef void *HANDLE;
typedef HANDLE HACQDESC;
DECLARE_HANDLE (HWND);
[code]....
how to convert this DLL call to VB.NET and also how to create the callback function and send it as parameter to this function
call.
One of my ASP.NET websites makes use of the CultureInfo class to format currency values and normally this works fine. However, some new code is causing some unexpected problems. In the code sample shown below, txtBox1 correctly displays £99.00 while the line that specifies a value for txtBox2 generates the following error,Too many arguments to 'Public ReadOnly Default Property Chars(index As Integer) As Char'.The key difference in the txtBox2 value is that it is derived from a SQL Server database reference using Linq-to-SQL (CurrentUKFees.Print1). The relevant database value is the integer 8 and I was expecting txtBox2 to show £8.00. If I delete the CultureInfo code then txtBox2 correctly shows the value '8' without any currency formatting.[code]
View 1 RepliesI have a method written in VB.NET. It looks like this:
Shared Sub SomeMethod(ByVal Id As Guid,
Optional ByVal str1 As String = "foo",
Optional ByVal str2 As String = "")
I want to call this method from C# 3.0 and I want it to use its default arguments. I tried passing System.Reflection.Missing.Value, but I cannot cast it as String. Is there any way to do that?
When accessing the winapi method CloseHandle() via .net P/Invoke, should the argument be IntPtr or HandleRef, and why?
View 2 RepliesI build two programs, 1 - bootstrap and 1 - mainprogram
now, mainprogram has 2 constructors, the default and the one which i defined and it accepts an integer the default constructor checks the variable named iscalled a type of integer to have a value of 1 or zero, if its zero then it should shows a message saying "Improper initialization" then exits..
What I mean here is, mainprogram should only run if its called by the bootstrap program.
How to call exe with multiple arguments from VB.Net Source. Now, I can call exe file with mmyProcess.StartInfo.FileName ="....exe" and pass parameters with myProcess.StartInfo.Arguments but i can't pass multiple parameters with it.
View 1 RepliesIm trying to call a procedure to run into a thread..But this procedure requires two arguments. How can I pass these arguments in to the function when the thread call:
Dim myThread As New Threading.Thread(New Threading.ThreadStart(AddressOf PopulateTermList myThread.Start()
addressof PopulateTermList should only be called without parenthesis(the VB tells me this)
I'm currently working with a client's VB.Net code, which was developed for them by a small development shop a few years ago and which they purchased and have been maintaining and uprgrading since. This client's primary developer is out on indefinite (likely permanent) medical leave and I'm now filling in until they bring in a full timer (as I'm a contractor here). My current task is to add some functionality to a the VB.Net code they purchased. I'm finding practices and techniques in the code that absolutely baffle me and can't make the code do what I want. I'm starting to wonder if it's me and was hoping to get some thoughts on the code I've encountered.
For example: Setting a variable to accept the result of a function by calling the function with many parameters, clearing the parameters in the function, setting them to some value, calling another function with those new values, then never using the values returned by the functions. I'll add a code snippet in the first comment since this is already getting long.

I want to create an ExpressionTree where a Func(of Vector, Vector, Vector, Vector, Double, Double, Vektor) should be called. So I use
Expression.Call(Forces(0).Function.Method, {Vec1, Vec2, Vec3, Vec4, Double1, Double2})(Vec1-4, Double1-2 are declared as ParameterExpression and Forces(0).Function as Func(of Vector, Vector, Vector, Vector, Double, Double, Vector). But I get an AgrumentException, because Forces(0).Function.Method has seven Arguments. (System.Runtime.CompilerServices.Closure as seventh argument at Index 0).
I have a small section of a windows form that allows users to select when a customer should be called (i.e. day of the week, time and inbound or outbound)When the form is loaded I will extract the information using a dataset and bind to form controls. I want to use a combo box for call stautus - inbound or outbound - however wish to give the user the choice at runtime.My thoughts are I would need to set a static list (so the user could choose) and set the default or displayed value to the info the dataset has extracted.This code to select the index doesnt work when I am comparing the dataset result to the "Outbound" string even though I am using the ToString method.

I have a function which has multiple arguments, but takes around 30 seconds to complete. Is it at all possible to put it under a thread?
VB.NET
Private Overloads Function XLSParse(ByVal WorkBook As String, ByVal CellFrom As String, ByVal CellTo As String) As Boolean

And it runs fine because it doesn't have any arguments. So is it possible to run a function on a seperate thread if it has arguments?
