I'm writing a remote desktop software that starts a connection in reverse mode, using RDP API. My problem is that I try to setup the port that the listening socket may use, but it seems not working: it uses always a random port. [Code] The problem is the seems PortId is ignored: my connection string reports other ports number, and the incoming socket is open on port different from 4000.

1. I know the UPN (userPrincipalName) is setup using user.Properties("userPrincipalName").Value = ComboBox2.Text and that works fine... however, we have an additional UPN name.. check out the picture below.
2. Any way to setup the Remote Desktop Services Profile up? Peticularly Remote Desktop Services home folder. Where Connet: would be selected, as well as Drive letter, and To: would be filled out as well. [code]

Now I already did a small console application which listen for the data and print out the data on the screen.
Now my plans are to deserialize the xml data or I will create the insert statement into the database.
1) The device send me the data every second (if there is data to send me).
2) I cannot say how much data the device is going to send me.

I am new to socket communication. I found a few samples on the web and I managed to make my own host-client communication but i wanted to go a bit further and connect to port 80 of a server and it was just a disaster! First of all I know I can just use the functions that vb has itself but I want to make my own connections ... I have got some reasons I need this one! Do I really have to make them "connect" or just somehow without connecting I get the data? So I'm stack at the point that the connection is made ... it refuses to connect.

The next time I run the program it is unable to open the port because it is already in use. I have an application to make a server and clients to read/ send text to it but I want a program I can run from a remote computer that you enter the ip and port and it crashes the server.
View 2 RepliesMy current project is a program that collects meteorolgical data on one computer and allows to access it from any other computer on the net.Everything is working fine so far - it is collecting the data, doing some computation and then listening (as server, TCP) on some port for a client who is interested in downloading this data.When it receives some short command string (something like "GET DATA") it just starts sending the data to the client. The transmission works.
At this point I am getting a bit nervous because I absolutely have no idea on the programming basis of viruses and other malware:When the program is listening on the port (for which I have to allow an exception in the firewall) is there any danger that malware from outside intrudes into the computer?(running Windows XP with latest service packs installed, firewall enabled, antivirus-program installed (is this necessary if there is absolutely no internet activity on the computer besides of this data sampling / server program?)).
If there is danger, what could I do to protect the computer aside from closing the port which I need for communication with the external world?Can you point me to some URL where I can alleviate my ignorance of the basics of malware functioning (on the software level)?
I'm running into an issue where I have a lot of AsyncSends going on with dozens of client sockets, and at the moment if any remote client stops receiving but doesn't actually disconnect, the app quickly eat sup all of the SocketAsyncEventArgs (aka an sae) I have preallocated because they're not released since the SendAsync is not completing. The obvious solution to this is to implement a per-client send queue, which sounds easy enough but I am unclear as to the specifics. I have one sae allocated per client to receive, which works perfect, and ideally I'd love to allocate a single sae to the client's async sends.
I understand popping in and asking a question that is veiled request for a 'give me code' solution is looked down upon, but I honestly have not been able to turn up a lot, either on the .XAsync methods, which Microsoft has a horribly poor example for, nor for a send queue in general.

I forgot to mention it, but I -am- actually using a bunch of preallocated sae's stored in a managing class that internally uses a ConcurrentBag. With one connection, in a test scenario where 20 small messages are sent per second (this is slightly more than double how many messages would actually be sent in the production server), the server eats up 500 preallocated sae's in a few seconds. If I implement 'create if empty' code, the sae count quickly climbs into the thousands.
I understand the functionality that the async methods of the Socket class provides, but if there's a network hiccup or something similar, this issue will outright bomb the server within seconds. A send queue sounds like an great solution, but I have no idea whether it's a good idea to do in a high performance production environment or not.
The base problem remains, though, that with a dozen messages per second per client being sent out, any network congestion or other factor that lags the connection but does not disconnect it will quickly deteriorate into a laggy mess.
I think a solution I might be looking for is something that locks up the single sae being used for sending until the completion callback is reached, where that sae is then unlocked and then reused to send any pending data. The actual implementation of it eludes me though.
I wanted to know what are the risks of opening up a socket server on a specified port? Right now I have it limited to only accept requests from 1 specific IP to that port and all the other ones get rejected (using the windows firewall), is there a way to implement an authentication or anything else so I can allow it to be accessed from any IP worldwide yet have it secured?

I have a problem with a large application that consists of windows forms mainly, but some WPF windows and controls (we also use DevExpress controls v9.1). The problem is that the application sometimes hangs when it runs in a remote desktop session, and that session gets locked due to inactivity, and the user comes back and unlocks the session. The hang seems very similar to the hangs you get when accessing GUI controls from a none GUI thread, but I'm pretty sure that's not what causes the problem. (We had a lot of those problems earlier, and have fixed all multithreading problems we were able to find. And the hangs now never occures when the application runs outside the remote desktop environment.)
I've done a lot of research on the problem but I've still not found a clear point to what causes the problem. However, I think there might be a problem related to some combination of remote desktop and .NET framework. The reason for this is posts like this:

I want to be able to view the desktop in almost-realtime from a computer on my lan (its part of my business) As this is a business situation teamviewer is not free, but id rather like to make my own server and client anyway - will be fun! I need to know the best way of sending the desktop fast to the second computer. I know of several ways to do this: take image of screen be it jpeg/bmp or whatever and send it as many times a second as i can (too slow) take an image of the screen and compare it with the previous image and send the bytes that have changed. take multiple images of the screen compare with previous images and send through the bytes that have changed.

What I'm trying to do is, I create a timeclock application which will clock a person in and out and keep track. View 5 RepliesI am trying to overcome a problem I am having with remote desktop.Basically I have 2 machines running in different locations. I use remote desktop to access one of them (the "Remote Machine") from the other.("My PC")The "Remote Machine" is performing automated tasks that require the screen to be active, not the user login screen.
When I do so the Remote Machine logs off and presents the normal windows login screen.When I am finished reviewing the remote machine I log off and then I need to log back into the "remote" machine. It has no monitior but I can log in by pressing the enter key which sends a keypress to log into the user account( there is only one). In fact I do this the other way around. I press the enter key on the "Remote Machine" and this logs the user back in - terminating the remote session on "MyPC".
The problem is I have to physically go to the Remote Machine to press this enter key.This is a hassle - One solution is to remotely re-boot the remote pc but the lead time involved is too great.I am unable to fix this problem by tweaking setting or registry hacks so I guess the solution must be to cause the remote user to log back in programatically.I am an experienced VB user but I have never worked outside the windows environment. Ideally I would like to programmtically send a keystroke "{enter}" to the login screen but this doesn't work.
How to bring up something like a remote desktop window? Is it like a com service or is there a control which I an include in my form?

View 9 RepliesI created an application that opens certain Microsoft Windows built in functions depending on what button you use. I have Text Fields setup for certain things like IP/URL, Username, Password, Port, Service. Depending on what function you want it pulls data from these fields.
When someone clicks on Remote Desktop I would like it to pull from the IP/URL, Username and Passwords fields. Right now it pulls only from the IP/URL field. How can I have it populate the Remote Desktop login, pulling the data from my Username and Password fields?
I have found a Login DLL that someone wrote and also found a Remote Desktop DLL but I do not know how to tie these into my program. I somewhat know the process of using a DLL in a VB project but I don't know how to tie these in.
FYI, I would like to be able to make my application a single executable instead of having multiple files that are installed by an Setup program.
Another feature of my program is being able to stop and start a service. I can use Taskkill and have it pull the username and password just because Taskkill has this built in with switches. This is ok for ending tasks but when I try to use SC to start the tasks, it only works locally because the remote server has a different username and password. SC does not have a switch for username and password.
Also another FYI, I do not want to use a 3rd party software that may not be on the remote computer/server. i.e. PSKill, PSExec, VNC or another program..... unless these can be imported into my single executable program and not have to be on the computer. As I mentioned, I do not like having to rely on 3rd party applications.
