Remove Itself From Its Parent WITHOUT Error In DesignMode
Mar 11, 2012
I'm tried to make a control that will kill itself when added to a form. Actually what I want to do is make a control that will ask for password before added to a form, and remove itself if the password is wrong... Anything work great, it really will remove itself from the parent form, but it will show a error message too: "'child' is not a child control of this parent."
Here the code:
Public Class SuicideCustomButton
Inherits Button
Protected Overrides Sub InitLayout()

I have a simple Treeview with 1 rootnode and several childs I'm allowing users to add a Group (in the rootnode) in which they can drag and drop other childs. But how can I remove a 'Group' without loosing its childs? If I do a remove it also removes its childs.
i'm having a few small problems concerning my MDI child forms.
1). I have a panel that is docked to the parent form so i can change the background colour of the parent form. (the background property doesn't seem to work on MDI parents). But my childforms appear underneath this panel, is there a way to make them appear on top of the panel? (i've tried using .topmost = true).
2). Is there a way to remove the 3d border style of a MDI parent form?
What is the easiest way to edit and persist a collection like decimal[] or List<string> in the WinForms designer?
The first problem is that a parameterless constructor is needed. So I made a simple wrapper class: (at some point this was like MyObject<T>, but the WinForms designercode generator didn't know how to handle it)
[Serializable()] public class MyObject {
[Code].....
However, by saving, closing and re-opening the form the elements in the collection are never persisted.
Edit: Hans gave me some tips (his comments somehow went into the void). I followed his guidelines and updated the source above, which unfortunately still doesn't work...
This is a very basic question, I have a parent form and a child form and both window state are set to maximize, would it be possible to remove the toolbar at the top? I have tried most thing like setting the form border style to none on the child form but still I get two tool bars. I would like to remove the tool bar in the black square
I have a question about how to properly deal with errors. I am working on a three tiered application. If an error is created on the data tier, I would like to pass the error to the business tier and process it there. What is the best method to accomplish this? I am using .net 2.0 and visual studio 2005.
I am trying to have my .NET application interop with an object created in VB6. The VB6 application has a ShowDialog method with the following signature:
Public Sub ShowDialog (Optional fParent) And inside the code, there is the following lines of If Not IsMissing(fParent) Then
I'm trying to make an MDI parent form to call other forms. I have put this code which I found in a post here into the main form which I added to my project as an MDI parent form:
[Code]...
I get an error message which say FrmEmbed is not defined. How can I correct this?
I have a window form with a parent shown as detail items and two child as datagridsviews. They work perfect when saving and uploading data. The problem arises when I up load a picture to a picturebox and I go to save. I receive error dialog "System data invalid constraint exception: FK WineList_WinePurchase requires the child key values(1) to exist in the parent table. Not sure what happening when I add the picture.
Private Sub WineList_Load(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles
This is a challenging one that got me stumped while I was coding today. Suppose I am running the Sub Test1() and Test2() and would like to print out the value of the Shadows method of the instance of the object I am passing in to TestCall() (see below - it is clearer) using the following restrictions:
Can't change the contents of Class A, B, and C Can't change Sub Test1() and Sub Test2() TestCall() can't have an if, select case etc. statement that tries to figure out the type
I have a main form, and some sub forms, and each sub form can have some sub forms. When I have multiple sub forms open, and I try to get data from the parent form, it returns the data from the wrong parent form. For example I have two instances of Mainform.subform running. If I do something like this in a child form of one instance of the subform. It returns data from the other subform.
dim l = Mainform.subform.listofdata
Edit:I am using visual Studio 2008. Winforms, form designed using designer. In my mainform I am doing this
Protected Friend frmMain as Mainform frmmain = new mainform
In frmMain I am doing this
Protected Friend frmsub as new Subform' frmsub = new subform
I would like to know if there is some simple code to release a child control from it's parent control, without having to name the parent control. In pseudocode, I'm looking for something like this:
I have two tables with referential integrity defined in the sql-database. parent: projectschild: projectlineI do not want projects to be deleted if projectlines exist. The projects are displayed in a datagridview. Here's part of the
Dim dbs As New databasedata.databasedata Dim connstring As String = dbs.DatabaseConnection Private dc As New DB2Linq.db2linqDataContext(connstring)
Yes its me again with yet another problem Ok so I've now gotten round to trying to display some data from my database and displaying it in a DataGridView Heres the critical part
I'm trying to remove the first and last lines from a text file. Obviously the last line will be at an undetermined position (i.e. line 50 or 5000). I couldn't figure how to remove the lines, so I wrote code that would rewrite every other line:
I created a windows form which contains a datagridview. I named one of the columns in the grid 'location' which appears to have generated an error. The problem is I cannot load the form to remove the column as an error is generated and when I load the designer code it says do not modify with the code editor but use the windows form designer.
While I've previously many years of relational databases and procedural languages, I'm stumbling with Visual Basic. In this problem, the simple situation is that I have two files, parent and child. The primary key of the parent file (Area file) is linked by a relation to one of the two fields that makes up the primary key in the child file (Project file) (unique key is formed from 'area' and 'project'). I have the default table adapters created on both files. I have created two maintenance forms showing one each of the two files in datagrid view format.I can create some records in the Parent (Area) file, but when I try to create a record in the child (Project) file, using one of the valid key values from the Area file, I get the 'ForeignKeyConstraint [relation name] requires the child key values [actual value] to exist in the parent table' which I'm absolutely definitely sure it does.
I haven't done any actual coding for those two maintenance forms, just dragged-and-dropped the files from the data sources screen onto separate forms so it creates the controls itself. But I can't work out, if it already knows the data does exist because I can load it back in to the Area maintence form, why it can't check itself to find out the record does exist. Why does it think the record from the parent record doesn't exist? It does exactly the same thing, whether or not the database is in access or SQL Server Express. I have all the latest updates.
I have been trying to install VB2010 Express, which directs me to uninstall VS2010 Beta. I have been primarily successful in this, but I keep getting error 1402, as follows:Form "Microsoft Visual Studio 2010 Professional Beta 2 Setup - Update Page":
Uninstalling Components:
[completed - check] Microsoft Office Development Tools for Visual Studio 2010 (x64) [completed - check] Microsoft Visual Studio 2010 Professional Beta 2 [pending - double bar] Microsoft Visual Studio Macro Tools
Not sure if too many people know this, but the following line will cause an error:
GroupName.Substring(0, 3) = "jt_"
....if the length of GroupName is less than 3 characters. I always thought it would simply return whatever characters in GroupName, but no, it errors. I must be thinking of the old VB6 days. So, I now have to change the code to:
If (GroupName.Length > 2) Then If (GroupName.Substring(0, 3) = "jt_") Then
Note that the two comparisons need to be on separate lines. If they are on the same line, such as:
If (GroupName.Length > 2) and (GroupName.Substring(0, 3) = "jt_") Then then the code will still fail as the length command is executed at the same time as the substring command- which will cause the error when the GroupName length is less than 3.Just thought that those of us not aware of this should be!
Just had to remove remove statics and use Delegates refering to class. i have got a little problem in one of my project.I need help to resolve it.My application Connect several FTP server with the same Class.I'm using TCPclient for few specifics Commands. The problem : All threads call the same TCPclient wich can't connect several server at once.I would like to create a New TCPclient for each thread.
I'm trying to remove individual nodes from their parent, I tried the Remove method but it doesn't seem to be working. How is this done? Is this a bug or what?
Sub Main() Dim xml = <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
I am trying to delete a file (malicious file) that places itself in the system32 directory. When i try to delete that file it shows cannot access file that is being used by another process. I found out that the process that uses the file is winlogon.exe . How can i remove this handle from the winlogon.exe process. I want to remove this from the winlogon.exe process. Can anybody suggest any ideas for this.
I have 2 pages. parent.aspx and child.aspx. In parent.aspx, i use colorbox and send some value for the child.aspx to popup.

child.aspx will popup and shows ASPxGridView base on the value passing from parent.aspx. User will select the data from ASPxGridView. the selected data need to send back to the parent page. I code it in child.aspx.vb page.My problem is how can i get the value from child.aspx.vb and pass it to parent.aspx ?

I am looking for a howto or someone expert in ADO.NET who can explain me how to properly solve the following scenario:I have two datatables in a dataset:
ParentTable (ParentID, Name) for user data ChildTable (ParentID, ActivityID, ...) for schedule data
Tables are linked together at the database level by ParentID which is an Identity column in ParentTable.
Both tables are data bound to a separate DataGridView on the GUI. There supposed to be a "1 parent/N children" relationship between the tables, meaning if I create a new entry in the ParentTable (a new user) I get a clean DataGrid in the child grid to type schedule data for the user. So I setup two DataAdapters for each table to fill their result into a DataSet. I also set up a DataRelation object and assign it to the DataSet to link the two tables by their ParentID columns. Also when I add a row into the ChildTable via DataGrid I use SetParentRow to set the parent row.
