VB - Desktop Computer With Cable Connection On Back Allows To Watch TV On Computer Using Windows Media Center

Jun 12, 2010

I have a desktop computer with a cable connection on the back that allows me to watch TV on the computer using Windows Media Center. I had the idea of writing a program that would access this feed and send it to another computer (laptop) via my network. That way I would be able to watch TV from anywhere that my network spans. I have no idea if this is possible or how I would even do it,

So I have three questions.
1: Is it possible?
2: How would I go about access the feed?
3: How would I send it over the network?

My original thought was doing it in Flash, but I'm not very good at Flash so I wanted to do it in VB.Net.

Restrict Access To A Tab In A Form Application?

Apr 25, 2011

I am building a simple windows form application in Visual Basic 2010 with two tabs. It's a program that will allow a business to enter contact information for display to an end user client.

One tab displays the business contact information for the end user client, which I have the data filled from a App.config file. The other tab acts as a settings page. The business fills in their contact data on the settings tab for the App.config file.

Once the business contact information is entered into through the settings tab, I want to be able to restrict the end user client access to the settings tab.It doesn't need to be highly secure, just a way to prevent the average end user from getting into the settings tab.

Developing A Computer Application Designed To Monitor The Network And CPU Statistics On A Computer?

Jan 29, 2009

I am developing a computer application designed to monitor the network and CPU statistics on a computer remotely. The monitored computer would have my program installed and the monitoring computer would display, in a form, the information being sent from the remote client. The application does not send any information regarding packets, user names, passwords, etc. It is solely meant for monitoring CPU performance and Network resources remotely.

What would be the best method to send this information over to my host machine?I am programing in Visual Studio 2008 on windows XP. The client machine is also XP. I know this sounds a little shady, but it is required for my little business (http://www.iquorum.net) to monitor what and when something happens on our machines when I and my employees are away.

Const sSoundFolder = "C:UsersChrisDesktopSound"

Now that I'm ready to deploy my app, I want to reference all the audio files so others can hear them in the application.

I read how to reference them... but what I don't know:

Do I have to change the above code to some sort of reference folder in my application instead of my desktop?

Is there any means for the application to know the distinct name of the shortcut that was doubled_clicked. C# - Deploy An ASP.NET Application As Desktop Application (with Server Component)?

Jul 7, 2010

Question: I created an ASP.NET web application. Now it originally was meant for deployment on a webserver. That is working, so, so far so good.My question now is: Is it possible to deploy it as a desktop-application, too? That is to say the installer installs some kind of server, plus the web application, configures the server to run this application on a localhost URL, and then creates a link in the start menu/desktop, where it opens that url (website, the application) on localhost in a web browser?

I think it should be possible, though the server wouldn't be IIS, because this is a windows component which can't be separately installed. Is there anything like this already out there The nonplusultra would be that it only starts the server when you click on the shortcut.

Winforms - Convert A Desktop Application To A Mobile Web Application?

I have an application that is written in VB.NET, using the System.Windows.Forms.Form as the front-end GUI. It runs perfectly on my Windows machine however recently there is a business requirement to convert this application to run as a web application so that people could view them in their blackberries when they go to the URL. Is there any quick way to perform such a conversion or I will have to translate the code line-by-line for such cases?

PHP + SQL Server - Desktop Application Can't Be Replaced By A Web Application?

Jun 22, 2009

the system is going to have two front-ends - one web application and one desktop application. The desktop application is going to be coded using VB.NET, and the web application in PHP. There's really no reason why the desktop application can't be replaced by a web application as well - except that one of the programmers seem to really want to code it in VB...However none of us have experience working with either of these pairs .

P.S. hosting service will be gotten from some provider and not be on the client's own server.
